This.was.boring.
Boring with a capital B. I said what I said.
You would think a Cinderella retelling with a Cupid-Psyche twist can do nothing wrong. Right? No. This book somehow used all of my favourite trope and made me hate every.single.one.of.them. It literally took me so so long to finish this book and I'm just so mad and I WANT MY EFFING WASTED TIME BACK!
So Katria, our protagonist is Cinderella. Her evil step mother and sister tortures her. Basically they made her their personal maid. We get it.
Her mother hates her.
Her sister hates her.
Yes. Pretty simple. We have read that before. No need to describe it for 60/70 pages god! Can we move on?
Anyways, so after what felt like forever she is finally married off to a man she has never met. Enter another 50 pages of inner monologue cause WHY NOT?
Her new husband gave her some rules. Don't go roaming around the woods at night. And some part of the house. Also, she can never see him. She agreed without asking any questions.
Enter another 100 pages.
Katria woke up. Katria took her breakfast. Katria went to the woods and played her lute. Katria wondered about her husband. Repeat.
Pretty exciting right?
At this point half of me wanted to dnf this thing cause as much as I hate myself sometimes I don't want to torture myself to death.
Okay, so about the main purpose of this book which is "romance". Katria never saw her husband. She doesn’t know his first name (she never asked, and I'm like " wtf?", but then I reminded myself it's none of my business), She had like two conversation with him yet everytime she realizes they both lives under the same sky her body betrays her. *shivers*
GIRL!!! YOU HAD LIKE TWO CONVERSATION WITH HIM! YOU DON’T KNOW HIS FIRST NAME YET!
Oh please. Have mercy on my braincells.
Minor spoilers ahead:
Now about the chemistry (which you can clearly see, they have enough chemistry to light a building on fire). Anyway,
Our Fae Prince (we know his first name now. But I'm not gonna tell you cause I'm evil) is so so ✨romantic✨ and ✨kind✨ and ✨empathic✨ that he made Katria walk for hours without any food or rest despite knowing she is a human and she might pass out or worse..she might DIE cause he was angry. well maybe Katria dying wouldn’t be the worst thing happening in this book. Some death will probably make it less boring. Ahem.
You’d think Katria would be mad at him after this. But guess what?? *surprise* *surprise* she is still the one who apologized cause she understood why he is mad.
Because, #TrueLove
HashtagDisneyDidItBetter.
And after all these, both of them suddenly realizes they were in 🖤🖤true love🖤🖤.
This book felt like 1000 pages long but at the same time when it came to the romantic build up it felt like 20 pages. Idk. Maybe I lost all of my braincells.
Anyways.
Here's my favourite quote from the book-
Same. But, ouch Giles! You can't spill the truth like this. Your Prince's delicate ego might get hurt!

This man makes me want dangerous things. Things I’ve never thought I wanted before and certainly never needed.
GIRL!!! YOU HAD LIKE TWO CONVERSATION WITH HIM! YOU DON’T KNOW HIS FIRST NAME YET!
My thoughts, and dreams, all revolve around him and this strange new world…even if I don’t want them to.
Oh please. Have mercy on my braincells.

"Do you need to stop?” he asks me.
“I can keep going,” I force myself to say when all I want is to shout, Five minutes please!
“Good, we carry on then.”
“Davien—”
“Your true king has spoken.”

“This isn’t about me,” he says curtly.
“Rare of our lost prince to recognize that not everything is about him.” Giles grins.

Your review spared me from wasting any time on this book. I barely made it through the first one. Thank you!
I loved it at first. It set the mood quickly with Katria's morning ride and making the forest seems so mysterious.
But now I'm so annoyed. I'm about two thirds through and I don't even like Davien anymore.
I can also sense a huge plot twist coming regarding Katria. It's so obvious, but all the characters are just stupidly oblivious and aren't even questioning anything.

The love interest's name is Davien, for God's sake!
Girl, did we read the same book?? The book is a little one 300 pages, ain't no way those scenes and scenarios lasted 50 and 100 pages at a time. The book actually progressed really fast. The only thing that rushed and thrown in was Katria's not wanting to fall in love. It was random and I was confused but after that, with more explanation, it became more clear.
@Breeza it *felt* like hundreds of pages. Not literally hundred pages lol. Idk, I found it too boring for my taste.
Was really excited for this as i really liked the first book. This one was just off for me. Kept skipping through the inner monologues 😅 hope the next one is better lol

I didn’t. But atleast that book was better than this one.

now i kinda want to buy and read it but at the same time not because its too expensive when converted in my currency :))
@Mary you can try kindle or your local library? If that's not available you can also look for available e-books?

Glad that I could help! Thank you!!

Thanks. I've tortured myself through deal with the elf king and wasted my time on it. So I'm not going to bother with this one. Sounds like it just more of the same :)

This one is worse than the first one trust me. Good decision on your part.

✨As much as I hate myself sometimes, I don’t want to torture myself to death✨what an iconic quote, I’ll steal it
it really was lol I didn’t read through the whole thing cuz of spoilers but I laughed aloud a couple times with the reactions from quotes :]
also I have mentally saved « oh please. have mercy on my braincells. » for later uses so thank you very much for that lol

Thanks for your comments! I'm an avid reader and hopeless.... Hopeless romantic and reading books where there isn't any actually romance but mostly the inner ramblings of someone convincing themselves they are in love is not romance!
AHAHAHHHA< I am trusting your taste in romance. This review made me LOL and also realize this book is NOT for me.
