Yay! I won a giveaway for this! Not sure if it's coming in October (the scheduled release date) or immediately, but I'm looking forward to it. I really enjoyed her previous Weird Horror-inspired novel, The Twisted Ones, which used Arthur Machen's The White People as its base.

Hmm. It's definitely not too horror-y for you. I'm not sure if it's your taste in horror, though. Have you read Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon before? She does several different sorts of books and I think her dark fantasy might be more your speed. Thanks! I'm not necessarily worried about how horror-y it is. It's just that horror usually disappoints me (movies too). Like recently with The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires, and a few years ago with Bird Box. I definitely fell into the "everyone loved it but me" camp.
I didn't read either of those so I can't offer a comparison. This is loosely based on The Willows, if you've read that short story.

Though now that you mention it . . . a portal to another world might have taken care of all those dreams.
I used to imagine a secret passage in my house. It was all dark and dungeon like (being in the walls of the house and all), but there was a big fluffy bed with Strawberry Shortcake bedding. Best of both worlds, I guess.
