👹 Wow I forgot how much recapping there is. great for some people, terrible for me because I'm binging.
👹 The descriptions of "otherworldliness" in this series is outstanding. Actually, Moning's writing style overall is outstanding. I also especially liked the way Barrons is always described. He isn't perfect in all his pretty man glory, quite the opposite, he is so carnal looking in a purely masculine way that makes him anything but perfect. I don't know, Mac makes him sound so attractive to me.
👹 This book is prolly my least fav out of the first five. Mostly because Mac didn't learn from her past mistakes of preconceived notions and refusing to believe anything is possible. Although it goes along with her character development, doesn't mean it wasn't a little frustrating at times. I still love her though idc.
👹 Their first kiss was so fucking hot god almighty. I can't believe I forgot. This is for myself and myself only.

“I told you, Ms. Lane, never believe anything’s dead—”
“—I know, I know, until you’ve ‘burned it, poked around in its ashes, and then waited a day or two to see if anything rises from them,’
👹 Their first kiss was so fucking hot god almighty. I can't believe I forgot. This is for myself and myself only.
“I couldn’t tell the difference between the two of you anymore!” he roared.
I smashed my fist into his face. Lies roll off us. It’s the truths we work hardest to silence. “Then you weren’t looking hard enough! I’m the one with boobs!”
“I know you’re the one with boobs! They’re in my fucking face every fucking time I turn around!”
“Maybe you need to get a grip on your libido, Barrons!”
“Fuck you, Ms. Lane!”
“You just try. I’ll kick the shit out of you!”
“You think you could?”
“Bring it on.”
He grabbed a fistful of my T-shirt, and dragged me up against him until our noses touched. “I’ll bring it on, Ms. Lane. But remember you asked for it. So don’t even think about trying to tap out on the mat and quit the fight.”
“You hear anybody crying ‘Uncle’ here, Barrons? I don’t.”
“Fine.”
“Fine.”

agree on everything u’ve said. i was disappointed in Mac as well when she made the same mistake. and when she (view spoiler) i felt sad wtf. then when (view spoiler) 😩 my feelings were all over the place lmao i loved it nonetheless.
TJ, what if I tell you they beat the absolute shit out of each other while making out🥺 will that make u read it?
I never made it past the first book in this series but I think I need to go back and re-read it. I read it wayyy long ago before I was into all the spice lol and I always see everyone loving this series 💕 Great review, Mareeva!
I ended up reading the first one years ago and I remember not enjoying it much 🙈 but perhaps it was a mood thing. While Mac wasn't exactly likable to me, however, the world building sounded very interested even if it was just beginning to be explored. I'll just experience the series vicariously through you I guess 😌
Candy, tbh at first I felt pretty indifferent to the story (esp books 1 & 2), I liked it but wasn't blown away, but by book 4 I was literally in love with it. I get why u'd not like the heroine tho. Personally I didn't have a problem with her, I admit she had a lot of irritating moments but they made sense to me in a way😂, so I wasn't as bothered.
Read the cover as Moaning and now I cannot unsee it. Is this like Kate Daniels? Would love to try it's anything like it.
Richa, mmmmmm kinda but not really. The paranormal aspect is more about faes, druids and irish/scottish lore typa stuff (not sure how accurate it is, I think it's more inspired). I like the heroine more in Kate Daniels but Mac is great too IMO and does not deserve the hate she gets. She is girly, southern (US), blonde and adores pink. I love the contrast between that and her other badass/fae killing side. I also don't find this series as predictable, it has pretty great/unique world-building which only gets better with each book. Highly recommend😉
Pinky, the argument and what comes right after IS SO MUCH MORE INTENSE in the book I could not tell you😭
My extremely long tbr gives me anxiety on a daily basis and you just made me add another book. Pls pay for my SSRIs
