I really enjoyed this book but I had a hard time putting into words why I did until I read another review that stated “this is a book that doesn’t cater to kids. It treats them like intelligent beings and tells them a story.” That’s it - simple. Matilda is an intelligent 5 year old that can outsmart most of the adults around her. She only does so when they have treated her poorly. She is able to do things most young teens wish they could. It’s a quick read and it’s fun.
