And, apparently, there's a debate on whether they're taking over the world's oceans.

Well, I'm not very good at these ocean terms. Lake swimming is a much easier beast. Surge from wind + tide?
I've been trying to improve my learning curve without the painful physical experience, but it does help the learning pathways along ;)
Jellyfish chips. I predict they're going to be big. Especially once we've destroyed ocean ecosystems to the point where what's left is mostly huge jellyfish swarms.
Also, I agree about them being jerks. I am extremely afraid of jellyfish. I get all panicky when I seem them, and become primarily concerned with “escaping to somewhere with no jellyfish”. I hesitate to call it a phobia, because I don’t think it’s irrational at all.

No, 'current' is the word for the intrinsic water flow, isn't it? I was reading an article on snorkeling, and it talked about the factors influencing the safety/quality of water, which were "current, surge, and tide," but I'm still not totally clear on 'surge.' That seems to have the most to do with wind. But it seems like tide can influence current by bringing more water in, to allow current to go faster...

Ok, that's super-interesting. Now I'm going to have to go google what their cells are made of. I thought they were mostly inedible to everything but sea turtles, dolphins, etc. Do they have much protein? That would actually be a thing to do with excess jellyfish. Just think--real 'jellies' candies. 😊

I am so with you there! As the saying goes, "It's not paranoia if everyone really is out to get you." 😉

Well, yes, the current is basically the flow, and currents are affected by all sorts of factors, including wind and tides.
It is true that there are currents, and then there are Currents - the named ones that make up global ocean circulation, like the Gulf Stream.
But basically, if you are in water, and it is flowing in a specific direction you can just call it the current, and it’s unlikely anyone will say “Current?” Sort of like how it doesn’t matter if it’s a tornado, hurricane, light breeze, or me driving with the windows down, I can just say the wind messed up my hair.

And I think surges have to do with storms, because even though there are storm seasons, individual storms aren’t part of the regular cycle, like daily and seasonal tides and such, but I’m also not really sure...

I going to assume Beige's roommie was from Japan or vicinity. There's no legitimate excuse for hot dogs, assuming you can read an ingredient label.

Yes, but you live in the Bay Area, which is as close to Eastern Asia as you can get in the US, both physically and gastronomically.
