really liked it

im usually not a seasonal reader, but this year i tried to make an effort to read a couple of holiday themed books and im so glad i saved this for last!

i grew up very familiar with the story of ‘a christmas carol’ via multiple adaptations (shoutout to the flintstones version from my childhood!), but i cant believe i never read the actual book itself. dickens is such a well known author, so its difficult to not critique this as i normally would with a book. but i think the message of this story is so important and should be the focus of this review.

i personally know how easy it is to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and materialism and stress that can surround the holiday season. we fixate so much on sales and good deals and buying things to make us happy, that we can forget a loving word or spending quality time with those we care about are really what should be a priority. we should remember that kindness is the best gift we can give.

so let us follow scrooges (eventual) example, when he says ‘i will honour christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year,' and allow the christmas spirit be something we not only feel this time of year, but always.

happy holidays and best wishes to all my fellow bookworms. <3

☽✰Madison✰☾ Aw! You are so right! I always see my mother struggle during the holidays and stress about how many gifts there are under the tree "are there enough" "What if you guys don't like them"! Its sooo easy to get into that mindset that we forget the true meaning of Christmas! Money spent and Present quantity isn't what makes Christmas Christmas! Its just having fun and spending time with loved ones!! Laughter! Being in the Christmas Spirit!!!! And giving gifts in the act of love and kindness!! Words! Words are also the best gift! Just remind a loved one that you are grateful to have them and love them!

☽✰Madison✰☾ This is such a sweet review and a very important message you shared! :)
And I hope you are having a very merry Christmas! :) <3

Ethan Jessica, I, too grew up watching many variations of this story around Christmas time. I really enjoyed the Disney version, but the movie as a whole is a staple for me at Christmas time. After reading the book, I am also in disbelief that I have never read it before. Dickens really is a renowned author, so while I was writing my review, I found it very difficult to critique anything. I was wondering if I just missed something, or just figured that he knew what he was doing and I’m just some student reader. I agree that the moral lesson of this story is the most important aspect, and that lesson was also the main topic of my review. You took the lesson as something specific to Christmas time, while I thought it applies to anytime of the year. I think that the only reason Christmas was involved was to evoke some holiday spirit, and make the reader feel very festive. I did like your response, however, and think that you might be on to to something. I just feel that an author like Dickens would try to teach more of a universal lesson. I enjoyed reading your response.
