really liked it
bookshelves: read-in-2020

Fascinating peek into a surreal world of continuous propaganda bombardment and state-orchestrated gaslighting propping up a cult of personality. Nothing like this could happen in a western democracy…..

John Banks I picked this one up a few years back and for some reason at the time DNFed. But the quality of it comes back to me from time to time and I mean to give it another go. Must put it back on my tbr pile.

John Banks Also what could you be referring to Marchpane, I really have no idea 🤪

Marchpane John, I did find it hard to get into at first... but then lots of seemingly throwaway details come back into play in the second half in a really clever way. Maybe it's a case of waiting for the right mood to strike...

message 9: by Dan (new)

Dan Yes, no such thing as family political dynasties in what used to be called liberal democracies.

Alex 2020 immortalized. You are brilliant and it shows. Thanks for this.

Marchpane Thanks Alex :) The difference a year makes...

Mona Love your sarcasm. I could not finish this book. I was at least 2/3 the way through. But it was just so bleak..

Marchpane Thanks Mona. It is certainly a very dark book, while often being quite ludicrous at the same time. A strange mix of tones.
