This story really drew me in from the first chapter and kept me engaged til the end! With some underlying themes of addiction and recovery, Encore was and intense read that surpassed my expectations.
Tessa grew up with a musician father, sneaking into bars to watch his band play and dreaming of being a singer. But after his death, she goes to college, listening to her mom instead of her dreams. Now she works for a record company, who offers her a promotion- if she can get a band who hasn't produced new music in years to create a new album by the end of the year.
Malus is a band with problems. The lead singer hasn't felt inspired in years, instead he works his way through the groupies at every venue. Another member hasn't made it a day without drinking in who knows how long. The third member has anxiety problems. And the last is a giant of a man with some attitude problems and a habit of intimidating everyone. But with Tessa's help, the guys are able to take a break, return to their roots, and really come together as a band and a group of friends again.
At first glance, Encore is just a rockstar reverse harem story with typical bada*s guys and the sweet and helpful girl who makes them see the error of their ways. But in actuality, this story is so much more. It deals with alcohol addiction and recovery, crumbling friendships, and important lifestyle decisions. Plus there's some intense romance and steam in this book! Tessa and the guys are amazing characters, each with their own pasts giving them depth that really brought them to life in my eyes.
I can't wait to read more by Lane Hart in the future!
