really liked it
bookshelves: 2contemporary-lovestories, bdsm

After I read this book and then I read a few reviews about this book,
I do not wish to write a review.

I just want to point out three things:

1. You never insult other readers/reviewers who like/love/adore a book/series that you hate. Please.
2. If you don't like the first book in the series and give a rating of 1 star, you don't have to read the second book in the series. Not much will change. So, obviously you will give 1 star again.
And if you don't like the second book in the series, you really don't have to read the third book in the series. There is no point. You only torture yourself.
And if you don't like the third book in the series, for heaven's sake, don't read the forth book in the series.
And if you still read the forth book in the series (why???), you still do not have to read the fifth book in the series. Nobody will force you. Nobody will blame you. You are free not to read it. Honestly.
Which brings me to my 3rd point.
3. If you haven't read the above mentioned books; you seriously do not have to rate them and/or even review them.

This series has opened a new world to me. And I believe I am sensible enough to understand
-What is right and what is wrong
-What is incorrect and what is under particular standards
-What is reality and what is over the top fiction

Thanks!

Michelle Totally agree with you huni 😘

message 2: by Mareli (new)

Mareli ahahahahahah! That's right!

The Girl Murdered by Her TBR Totally agree with you! I just saw a review against this book without even reading it. It annoyed me because how are they supposed to right a review without even reading the book? I think it's unfair to the author.

message 4: by Sera (new)

Sera I agree with point 1 and 3. But I have sometimes disliked the 1st book, still tried the second book and liked/loved that. So if it's a must loved series I might still give it a try. Like I did with the second book of 50 shades. But it just wasn't working for me so I stopped reading that after 50% or something.

But even though I didn't enjoy it, you have every right to love it and review it. I am saddened that other people are so horrible that you feel like you can't speak your mind.

Athena ღ Συμφωνωω απόλυτα! Ο καθενας ειναι ελεύθερος να διαβάζει οτι τον ευχαριστεί 😉

message 7: by Isabella - (new)

Isabella - SnooRegrets Unfortunately there are series were this will always happen - like Twilight or Fifty Shades. I read the first book of both series and personally am annoyed, that they get so much hype, since in my opinion there are so many better written books out there, that deserve the success more, but never ever would I judge a person for liking those books. Different people, different opinions.

That’s why your first point is so very important. There are black sheep on both sides, haters and trolls everywhere. I simply don’t understand the need to bash someone for either loving or hating a book. Live and let live and mind your own business. Or better yet - have a respectful discussion about a controverse topic.

It is okay to give the series another chance, but there are people who have given each book of the series 1 star non-stop. Either they are masochists and they keep reading something painful because they like the pain or they just give 1 star without reading the books.

Val ⚓️ Shameless Handmaiden ⚓️ Well said, Sophia. And I'm glad you enjoyed this one. It's always cool to see fans of a series happy with later installments. I only read (and enjoyed) book one. Still need to get to book two and on, but I think I spoiled it for myself with the movies LOL People hate on the movies too, but I have really enjoyed them both and look forward to seeing the third.

Moonyprof Well, I can't agree about not reading all the other books. You might have reasons for reading them all that has nothing to do with pleasure. I think the books are awful, but I absolutely agree that you shouldn't make fun of the fans/readers. People are entitled to like what they like.

Thank you for the thumbs up Moonyprof :) ❤

CARISSA E It drives me crazy to see a book rated and or reviewed by someone who has not read it. I don't believe you should rate a book unless you've given it at least half a chance. I personally love this series but I've read them all. It sucks but it seems there are more and more outspoken mean angry haters everyday...

message 28: by Shelli (new)

Shelli Might I ask, Sophia (and also Sara of message #19), what is the "whole new world" that this book opened up to you (or in Sara's words, taught you)?

I completely agree that ad hominem attacks are just rude, classless, and pointless. What I wish more people on Goodreads knew is that if people are writing snarky and obnoxious comments on one of your reviews, you can just delete the comment! You don't even have to go through the trouble of reporting it, and you don't have to block the person. But your reviews are your space, and if people won't comment respectfully, then you have the power to stuff a virtual sock in their mouth!

I always answer when someone makes a comment. I never delete it. It is not nice. So far, nobody has been very rude with my reviews. I have deleted only a few comments that include unwanted and irrelevant advertising of sites.

About "the new world" comment, I have never read BDSM romance and erotica before 50 shades. Afterwards I read tons of books about BDSM. Lots of them much better than 50 shades.

message 30: by Shelli (new)

Shelli I admire your patience, Sophia! Although I do disagree that removing really nasty comments is never warranted; I really feel like when I come in to comment on someone's review, it's like I'm at a party they're hosting, and so it's my responsibility to comport myself like a decent human being. I don't mind lively disagreements, but once someone starts being nasty to me or my friends, I have no problem with them being "disinvited" to what should be a civilized discussion, in my opinion!

And thanks for answering my question! I am glad you've found good books about BDSM now. (Although I disagree vehemently that the Fifty Shades books even actually are about BDSM though. There are to many things that are antithetical to the entire philosophy.) I'm gonna go check your bookshelves now and see if you've got some good recommendations! 😀

You can try books by Cherise Sinclair (Shadowlands), Tymber Dalton, Lexi Blake,Shayla Black (for lighter stories), Joey W. Hill (not my favourite but many like her), Reiss C.D. (songs of submission) and Annabel Joseph (if you are curious especially for sadists LOL).
Even authors who don't normarly write bdsm have writen such books like Kristen Ashley and her honey series.
etc.etc.etc.

message 32: by Shelli (new)

Shelli Thank you for such a comprehensive list! I haven't heard of any of these authors so it will be something to broaden my reading horizons. I wish I had something in return to recommend to you, but all I can think of is non-fiction (such as the classic Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns: The Romance and Sexual Sorcery of Sadomasochism ), or the definitely acquired tastes of Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty series, or Story of O .

…Oh, wait! Ifyou're open to something other than a romance, there was a murder mystery / thriller I once read on a lark that I found really good (in a creepy way!): Topping from Below . One thing I particularly liked about it is that IIRC, it makes clear the line between being a good person who happens to be a BDSM top vs. being an abusive jerk.

Anyway, thank you again for the recs, and happy reading!

Thanks for the recommendations. The authors that I mentioned are all considered "romance authors" :)
