it was ok

As a ten-year-old novel, maybe this is just really dated but I felt like so much of this was problematic by today's understanding of this book's material, and even though the themes came from a place of wanting readers to relate and see that there is hope (well, sometimes, LET'S KEEP IT REAL) I just kind of felt a little squirmy reading it because it was like...some stuff with how various mental illnesses were described was fully not okay. Also, the voices of the teenage characters drifted from 1930s Brooklyn orphanage in one sentence to wannabe poet laureate in the next which was super awkward. I find it difficult to believe that this author has ever heard a conversation between two human people.

Oh and anyone can write text like this
And pretend it is poetry
But I guarantee you
It looks ridiculous as fuck

And is super annoying
To read
Though I guess
This is her thing.

Shoutout for the author having the same last name as me though!!! One star for trying, and one star for being twinsies.
