3.5*
Significant improvement from Burned. There might still be a hope for this series.

Writing is better than I remembered, it actually caught my breath few times. Multiple Povs, but transition is smooth this time and most attention concentrates on Mac and Jada. Thank goodness Mac is an active player again and no longer just a silent invisible observer. Not a big fan of icy Jada, but her shell is starting to crack and… there are few surprises.
Barrons got some of his old magic back – his pragmatic wisdom is scattered throughout the story.

My only criticism is that with the recaps and Mac’s tendency to overthink and overanalyse things – first half of this book is a bit slow. Action picks up though and even gets really intense with the BANG! sort of an ending.

Recommended to anyone who enjoyed this series at some point.

I’m not into poetry, but this is beautiful – from the lost scrap of paper Dancer to Mega:

Kill the clocks, those time-thieving bastards
Haunting every mantel, wrist, and wall
Incessantly screaming our time is gone
Marching to war with us all

Kill the clocks they remind me of people
I once met in passing that pushed me aside
To rush to their train or plane or bus
Never seeing where the true enemy lie

Kill the clocks before they’ve seduced you
Into existing as they do, in shadows of the past
Counting the days as they slip by us
Boxed into a world where nothing ever lasts

Kill the clocks and live in the moment
No cogs or gears can steal our now
When you laugh with me, time stands still
In that moment, I’m perfect somehow

I understand: Iced was awkward because of Dani's age and Burned was a complete mess - weakest book in the series imo.
This book was the first one I actually enjoyed after Shadowfever, especially it's second half.
I don't want to rush to recommend it to you before I've read the next one though. If Feversong is as good or better than this one - it may be worth a try. :)

Thank you Orient! :) K.M.Moning's writing certainly has it's shiny moments.

When you 're in a mood for female-lead UF series - I would happily recommend Fever 1-5! :D

I just need to know the count of naked men? :D The title for the series concerns me :D

Ha ha! :D I don't think there is any in the first book (although don't hold me to it - I read it some time ago). For what it's worth - there is no romance or sex until much later in the series.

Title refers to a state of mind: after main heroine comes to Dublin to investigate her sister's brutal murder she gets rolled in the series of events that she has no control over, along with the visions of monsters on Dublin streets - she thinks she is loosing her mind.

Lol, I tried to add the first book to my tbr heaven and saw that I have it as your rec, long ago :D Omg, it's my crappy memory! I remember we talked about the cover and I said that it's deceiving alongside with the title :D Sounds like a really good read ;) You got me with "monsters" :) Sold! :) I'll try to squeeze it somewhere :)

Milda Page Runner Giedre wrote: "Nah, I'm done with this series for sure. And not only because everything past Shadowfever is not that interesting to me."

OK, now you got me curious! :) What's the reason then?

Yippee! :D I hope you 'll enjoy it as much as I did.
Fair warning! If it will hook you in - it's as engrossing as KD series - so make sure you have time for 5 books ;)

Ugh, that's unsavoury... But then, the reason criminals succeed is because people close to them usually think they wouldn't hurt a fly.

Anyway, I hope I can get it out of my mind. I'd rather judge the books not the author.

But I understand your decision now.

Milda Page Runner Giedre wrote: "I have the same opinion, for the most part. After reading Iced and then hearing about that incident, I just can't get over it. Anyway. Sorry for being a rain cloud."

Ahh, no worries! I've asked for it. :)

I am very glad though she has solved Dani's age problem in Burned. (although otherwise that book was a crap)

Alissa Glad you liked it Milda! I don't think the next book will disappoint you. Same pattern, slower start (but interesting!) and then intense action. Just keep in mind the author did a little housekeeping, too.

Oh-oh.. Housekeeping? What do you mean by that? Do I need to be worried?

Sarah I completely agree with everything you said. I've been putting off reading the last book because the last two weren't great. Sort of wished she'd just left Mac's story at number 5, even though I wasn't crazy about Dani's character.

In that case I recommend reading #9 - it's quite good altogether - but especially because she gives Mac a well deserved ending. And Dani's transformation is... well - let's just say I'm really looking forward to the book fully dedicated for her. :)
