This was a bitch to get into and didn’t hold my attention whatsoever.
I didn’t feel invested in Ophelia, she lacked depth. Why did she want to continue her family’s legacy? Why did she care so much about saving her family home? Telling me she lived there her whole life and had fond memories isn’t strong enough. It’s generic, basic and boring, tell me something I don’t know. If I don’t understand the importance of why she’s entering the competition, then I don’t understand the stakes and I don’t care enough to continue. I didn’t feel like I was getting to know her at all.
The writing style is quite detached that had nothing to do with it being third person POV. Yet it also had a YA feel to it, only it felt abrasive next to dialogue which was cringey and cheesy. Jarring as hell ...more

Another viral booktok book doesn’t live up to the hype for me. Shock.
If you’re happy with fantasy on Ozempic, not getting the full picture with detail, but heavy on romance, you might like this. Providing you can get past the clunky writing and cringey dialogue. Oh and the MMC being called Kingfisher, who is not a Pokémon with that name.
Politics form such a huge part of a fantasy plot and if I don’t understand the world and why it’s the way it is, I’m out. I actually prefer romance as a subplot I’m realising. It should elevate a fantasy, but in these popular romantasy books, the fantasy is sacrificed to give way for the romance, by which point idgaf about.
The world. Why does the queen oppress civilians from The Third? Rather than ration their water and food if she’s afraid rebels from The Third are working with the fae, why doesn’t she just wipe them out already? How did she even become queen? She rations water but not alcohol? Why would the Queen do that ...more

I had no idea where this book was going and I did not care to find out. It was probably no-where. Not gripped, or even remotely bothered. It felt like listening to a bad soap opera? Plus the narrator started to get on my nerves.

This reads like an early draft. Not that the writing is bad, but the soul, the entire purpose of the book just isn’t there for me. Also so many things don’t make sense.
Lara’s father King of Maridana must honour a 15 year treaty by giving King Aren of Ithicana a bride. The king had trained his daughters from birth to ensure they will seduce King Aren, betray him and conquer Ithicana. Lara is one of 12, and on the night a bride will be picked, Lara fakes her 11 sisters death to ensure she will be chosen. Prior to that night, she already knew that once her father picked her sister Maralyn, he’d kill his other daughters. To ensure her sisters safety and freedom she fakes their deaths (proving to her father she is worthy by killing her sisters) and vows to be the next Queen of Ithicana.
Why would the king train all 12 daughters to pick one to do your bidding? Why not just pick one from the start? What a waste of time having all 12 trained to only kill 11 at some point ...more

Famous NFL player is seriously injured during a game, a sport he loves, that pays his bills. Hires a physio with a great reputation, who treated another injured NFL player in her career and got him back playing after 10 months.
