It deserved 4 stars at least for the fireworks scene alone! And while it's definitely more serious than the earlier volumes, I still laughed aloud multiple times (mainly due to Aoki's face haha). I can't believe I only have 1 more volume to read :(
Original Review Cute, but definitely my least favorite volume. It was more serious and less funny than the earlier volumes. That makes sense given that the series is wrapping up, but I still prefer it when things are humorous....more

It was really fun, fast-paced, and we got to learn so much vampire and parahuman lore. I loved the introduction of Deborah and the Blood Council, and the glimpses of Fae culture we got were really intriguing. The topics of immortality and what it really means to live for thousands of years was actually addressed and, while it certainly didn't present anything new, it done well and was actually more thoughtful than I expected from the series.
Krystal was missing for most of this book and, while I like her, she is definitely my least favorite character. There's nothing wrong with her, but she's a lot less interesting that basically every single other character. Deborah more than made up for Krystal's absence. I'm not sure if she'll ever show up again, but I would really like it if she did, even if only for a chapter or two.
Usually my favorite parts of these books are the humorous ones, but this time the stand-out scene was an action scene. Krystal's final trial was so much fun to read and I love how we got to see almost all the major characters play a part of the final plan.
I say this in every review, but I'm super excited for the next volume. It sounds like it might include Krystal and Fred's wedding, so I'm hoping we meet some new types of parahumans....more

I still find the illustrations hilarious (especially Aoki's expressions), but I feel like Aoki and Ida's plotline could have been more humorous. I found myself enjoying Aida and Hashimoto's story more, which usually isn't the case. (Though their story was particularly funny here--I laughed so hard when we met Hashimoto's dad!)
Original Review This series is so sweet and wonderful. It instantly puts me in a good mood.

This is the last volume I have out of the library and I'm anxiously awaiting for the rest of my holds to come in.

The cuteness of this series is going to kill me. Either that, or the humor. I was laughing to much while reading this that my stomach actually started to hurt. The first time I read this the brief break up annoyed me, but I was fine with it this time. Even though he was being immature, I totally understood why Aoki reacted the way that he did. I think it was realistic considering Aoki's insecurities and Ida's lack of communication, especially since being gay/bi isn't super accepted in-universe.
Original Review This was just as cute and funny as the previous volume, but I found the multiple break-ups annoying. I understand that these people are in high school, but it felt repetitive. I'm still incredibly excited for the next volume to come out though!!!...more

My favorite mangas are comedy and gag-based, but the ski school storyline was a bit much, even for me (though it did get quite a few laughs out of me). I wasn't as invested in Aida and Hashimoto's relationship, but I loved the relationship progression of Aoki and Ida.

His reaction to Aoki and Ida obviously wasn't great, but I think it was realistic and towed the line between comedy and drama really well. Homophobia is obviously something that exists in the book's universe and this was a good way to introduce that theme without making the series too serious.

My rating may be a bit inflated since I read this on a long bus ride (and therefore wasn't too hard to entertain) but I found this volume so funny! Much like the last book, this book is essentially a collection of short stories about Fred and his friends. I had forgotten a lot about this universe and the cast of characters so I found this a bit hard to get into at the beginning, but once I started to remember things I flew through the rest.
The universe created by the author is so wacky and expansive that I never know what's going to come in the next story. It's definitely not full of complex lore and isn't comparable to any universe in hard fantasy novels, but if you don't care about the details (like me!) then it's so much fun to learn about and explore. I'm really excited to read the next books and learn more about things, especially about Arch and what kind of parahuman he is.
This book is a lot of fun and I had a great time with it, but it definitely lacks a bit in the emotions. Everything feels pretty light even when things are supposed to be a bit heavier. The relationship between Fred and Krystal feels kind of empty and I can't say I care much about the two of them together. (In fact, at one point I was thinking that Fred and this random side character would make a much cuter couple than Fred and Krystal.) There's nothing wrong with the two of them together and it doesn't detract from the story, I'm just very meh about it. The relationship I was most invested in was Albert and Neil. I got a bit teary eyed during the chapter Neil narrated. In general, I'd say all the platonic relationships are much better written than the romantic ones.
I'm very hyped to continue on with this series. The library has all the audiobooks and it's the perfect thing to throw on during my commute to and from work. I have some other audiobooks to get through first, but honestly I kind of feel like just binging this series....more

Definitely more of a comedy than a romance (even though the plot is essentially just Kitty flitting around between her and her acquaintances' romantic entanglements). This book is so fluffy and silly, and it was wonderful to read a book that didn't take itself too seriously. Every character was so unique which made them all funny but in very different ways. As a result, I never got bored or tired of the comedy. I always like romance in my books and wouldn't have been angry if there was a bit more of it here, but still loved this nonetheless.
Venetia is still my favorite Heyer novel, but this one came pretty close. The only reason why it's not my favorite is because Freddy and some of the other characters have the most annoying habit of speaking in a very stilted manner, and because there is so much historical slang that at times I had a hard time understanding what the characters were talking about. Next time I'll read this on an e-reader so that I can easily look up words in a dictionary....more

In fact, I think I may have enjoyed this even more. It had the same level of ridiculousness as the first book, but I found the 'mystery'/plot to be slightly more engaging. I was kind of surprised by how much it related to the previous book. While you definitely don't need to know the plot of the first book to enjoy this, I thought it was going to be a completely separate story, but instead they were kind of chasing after the same villain. I also loved the ghost penny dreadful story even though it didn't have anything to do with the plot.
