Honestly, the first book should've been left as it was. TI hate it when the sequel sucks all of the excitement out, and leaves you with a blah ending.
Honestly, the first book should've been left as it was. That way, the reader could have imagined any ending fit to his/her liking, rather than have to bear with the ACTUAL ending that the author provided us with.
None of my questions about the killer - and his entire fiasco with the Dark House in book 1 - was answered. (Was Midge as crazy as him; his accomplice, perhaps, or just a hired actress??? She was never mentioned again.)
Why were Natalie and Parker specifically spared, as well? (Though I can guess about Parker.) Most of all, why did he take a break from his killing spree to focus on stalking Ivy? What was so special about her that he just couldn't resist?
I speed-read this to clear up the confusion, but I am STILL confused and VERY disappointed.
She yapped a lot about being pulled back into the chaos, but I knew that she was voluntarily accompanying Ivy for the chance to redeem herself. She really shouldn't have taken the risk. She was smart enough to run away; she should have been smart enough to stay away. 'Survival of the fittest' - no matter how selfish it may sound - is the practical truth.

SUCH cruelty! That was one of the most stressful cliffhangers ever!
(view spoiler)[Only one thing concerns me though - six people have been killed (though I'm not sure if Taylor's included in the body count since THAT wasn't properly explained), and they died in the sickest way - by their nightmares brought to life. The name and reputation of a famous director named Justin Blake has also been compromised. AND THE FBI HAVE NOT LAUNCHED AN EXTENSIVE INVESTIGATION INTO IT? "The trail turned cold quickly"???" That is NOT believable, even for a second.
Ugh. It pains me to give this rating after my absolute lovefest with Every Day and Another Day.
This book, though, was just so damn... blah.

I was truly heartbroken after reading Another Day, and finding out that A had left Rhiannon with another boy for her to have a non-complicated relationship with. I had been rooting for them SO HARD. I could completely understand A's reluctance to kill someone for their relationship to happen, but I had hoped that he would find another way. I especially hoped to read about it in THIS book.
However, the author took me by surprise - and not in a good way - when he introduced A LOT of characters (whom I unfortunately did not grow to care for), and proceeded to offer NO possible answers as to why A was the way he/she was. It was a huge let-down, considering that the book has almost 400 pages. My heart has been dashed to pieces.
After following Kendra's story for more than three years, I expected this final installment to finally focus on her.
She'd always been the sidekick in After following Kendra's story for more than three years, I expected this final installment to finally focus on her.
She'd always been the sidekick in all the other books. If she wasn't turning the beautiful boy into a beast - and we all know that story - then she was helping the distressed damsel reach her heart's desire. She deserved to finally be the princess witch marching off into the sunset with her prince wizard, and I thought I'd get to read that - in detail.
Sooo I was a bit disappointed with how this turned out. More than half the book was spent on recalling stories where Kendra helped the heroine. And since they were all focused on another girl - Kendra sort of faded away. Her love story, in contrast, was rushed, boring, and unimpressive. Also a bit confusing - why exactly again did the mirror fail to locate James? (view spoiler)[I mean, it could locate that girl's brother when he was "missing", but could not do the same with James? Mmhmmm? (hide spoiler)]
I guess I'm just happy that the author established she got someone in the end....more

I want to buy thousands of copies of these books and give them to everyone I know - especially those whom I specifically know are struggling with rape culture, slut-shaming and all the other fucked-up parts of society.
I love you, Holly Bourne. Thank you for fighting this battle with us.
And to everyone who’s been bashing these books - yes, I see you - rather than point out the flaws in Holly’s writing style or the issues she specifically tackled, why don’t YOU write your OWN book and raise MORE awareness on feminism??? One person can only do so much. If you’re really serious about wanting others to learn about feminism and its relation to race, sexuality, and other factors, be like Lottie and USE. YOUR. OWN. DAMN. VOICE. ...more

1. The entire premise of the book. So captivating and original. The author took today’s obsession with Photoshop to a whole new level, and weaved a gruesome tale about the Belles who alter the people’s appearances - at an EXCRUCIATING price! - so they could feel desirable.
2. Princess Sophia. A cute name to match the cute character that she is, right?
She was absolutely the perfect villain that you’d love to hate!
What I didn’t like:
1. The story dragged - for a book with more than 400 pages I was kind of expecting, you know, more. The exciting stuff like betrayal and death only happened near the end, which brings me to...
2. THAT ENDING. Ugh, was it even an ending?!!?!

The story just stopped in the middle of a scene! I actually checked to see if my copy had some missing pages but NO, that was really how it ended. Like the author took a break from writing and couldn’t get back into it so she decided that THAT would just be the end of her book.
I have so many questions, so I’ll still be reading the sequel which will hopefully be coming out soon. Also, fingers crossed that there’ll be more action in the second book....more

Like, why God? Why can’t Kyle be a real-life person who’ll pop up in my life and never let me go?

And my list of fictional boyfriends continues to grow.
All thoughts of Kyle aside, I loved this book even MORE than its predecessor. Amber was a typical fiery redhead, but she had more compassion and softness in her than I ever would’ve possessed, had I been left in her shoes. I LOVED her absolute passion for feminism and overall equality; her conversation with Lottie (who is my fictional SOUL SISTER!) about girls like Melody, put things into perspective for me. (Admittedly, all I do is hate them without ever really considering their sides of the story.) Her decisions towards the end of the book also took my respect for her to a whole new level. She’s one of the strongest protagonists I’ve met this year. I just LOVED her.
And Kyle.

One of my favorite quotes to end this little lovefest:
”There was the love in life you couldn’t choose. The love you just felt, that you couldn’t let go of, that tortured you and messed you up and made you sometimes too screwed up to let the other kind of love in.
The other kind of love, was the love you did choose. The love you didn’t have to give, but you gave anyway.”
Several quotes to convince you that this has been one of the wittiest reads I’ve had in a while:

“Am I heavy?” I floated past a group of people, strumming a guitar and singing “Wonderwall”, at the top of the stairwell. “Yes, you are.” I scrunched my face up. “I can’t believe you called me fat!” “What? I didn’t. Oh for God’s sake…girls…hang on…almost there.”
“Love always sorted those people right out. In An Affair to Remember, she gets all uncrippled because of love. In The Matrix, Trinity admitting she loves Neo brings him back from the dead. Let’s ignore Titanic…” (Lol - still can’t get over this one.)
EYE-OPENING, as well.
“What do they want us to do? Shag them but not expect anything in return?” “Er, yeah, basically,” Lottie answered. “No, that’s not right either,” I said. “They call those girls sluts.” (Yasss, EXACTLY! Slut-shaming is a DISGUSTING tumor in society.)
OCD. Mental health. Feminism. This book tackles a lot of serious topics in its funny and lighthearted way. It doesn’t overwhelm you with too much information; instead, it presents important points in a manner that isn’t forceful, with a bit of that Holly Bourne humour that I absolutely adore.
The main character, Evie, struggles to have a ‘normal’ life despite her intense (and quite scary) OCD. On top of that, she has to deal with first-time dates, bad boys (um, ASSHOLES really) and general relationships. I loved that the author gave her a realistic voice - that she was realistic, and not just an overdone character made to deliver the message of the book. I loved that the other characters were also realistic, with quirks that brought more to the story.
I really wish to learn more about Oli, and if his relationship with Evie blossoms into something more. (Heh. I never liked Guy.) I hope to read Jane’s and the others’ stories as well. This will be a series that I will be more than happy to follow along, in the long run....more

I sit up and groan. This is even worse than doodling Gabriel's name in sparkly marker."
This is the sequel to Cold Kiss, where we'll find our main character Wren gushing over how amazing Gabriel is 95% of the time.
And no, Gabriel still hasn't grown on me.
I'm still disappointed at how easy it has been for Wren to just start anew with Gabriel. She was all over Danny in the first book, but now, she just can't imagine life without Gabriel. This girl moves on fast, I tell you. This book has basically been all about Wren and Gab's relationship, about the rocky patches that they have faced and overcome. In high school. (*Rolls eyes*) There was some talk about magic... that wasn't really clear (and relevant, at least for me). Some essential family issues have been addressed, but only at the end, and even those were interrupted (view spoiler)[with Gabriel almost dying and whatnot (hide spoiler)].
What frustrates me the most is that this book actually GUARANTEES a sequel, but there wasn't anything written after this. It ends... JUST. LIKE. THAT. In conclusion, I am heavily disappointed with how this "series" turned out. Cold Kiss should've been left alone....more

So basically...
... “I fucked Kiera…even though you warned me not to. Then, for good measure, I did it again!”
Everyone said something at once. Jenny scolded Kellan for his language, Evan cursed at him, and I yelled at him to shut up! Kellan glared at everyone and added, “Oh…and I called her a whore!”
Oh because she is. LOL. Every. Bit. Of. Her.
“You had no feelings for me. You didn’t want to be with me, but now, you don’t want anyone else to be with me, right?” He shook his head angrily. “Is that what you want? For me to be completely alone?” His voice broke on the end of that sentence in his anger.”
She's also a selfish bitch.
... He opened his eyes and gazed back at me. “I’m trying to not think about anything,” he said softly. “It hurts too much when I think…”
I bit my lip and nodded, very sorry that I had even asked. “I love you,” I said again.
He nodded sadly. “Just not enough…not enough to leave him?”
And THAT pretty much summarizes this entire piece of trash that I've wasted precious minutes on.
What the actual fuck. If I ever met someone like her in real life, I would slit her throat and dump her body in the ocean. (Then I'd charm the shit out of the rock star/helpless puppy who's supposedly madly in love with her.)
DON'T waste your time on this. SERIOUSLY. This book begs to be set on fire....more
