The nice part of the book is the classification of these events and some of them are truly interesting since negotiations and the conflicts that are described were secret in nature and we, the public did not get all the info at that time. The evolution of F1 from technical, commercial, and safety angles is interesting and unknown to most modern fans and this book can help get to the bottom of past events....more

Every driver This is more of a photo album with short comments than an actual book. The book focuses on all Formula 1 championship winners till 2021. Every driver gets an average of 4-6 pages that are mainly photos. Do not get me wrong - beautiful pictures, many of them I have never seen and the quality of these is very good, but the text briefly describes the champions and their lives. It's a nice coffee table book for sure, but it has no new info or surprising facts about its heroes....more

We are more used to long domination of one team and driver because even teams are trying to avoid a Williams 1986 situation having a clear No. 1 in the team. That is understandable, but boring to watch. The book is going into these intense rivalries, some of them very emotional and some quite peaceful. Probably the most memorable moments in Formula 1 will always revolve around these intense fights. When you look back, the years of these intense rivalries are the ones that movies are made about and books are written about.
The style of the author is very neutral and does not take sides - easy to read and to teleport back in time and feel the drama of those intense battles....more

By the way NetThe book is similar to Netflix's "Drive to Survive" - it is fun for newbies to Formula 1 and rather bombastic and obvious for old fans. By the way Netflix's "Drive to Survive" is mentioned multiple times in the book as some kind of product placement. I am in the second category (following F1 for the last 30 years) and I expected to read about the history of Formula 1. Still, it is more of a guide to Formula 1 in 2024 and a bit of history, which is fascinating.
The good: - beautiful style with drawings of famous drivers and their cars; - up-to-date information (containing info from the 2024 season), but this will quickly get outdated; - very concise info on F1 legends from the past - up to the 2000s, a bit short, but interesting - many facts I did not know.
The bad: - a lot of info that is well-known to old fans of F1 on rules, flags, circuits etc; - a lot of emphasis on DEI (everyone is judged using modern ethical standards by the author) and female drivers that for a old school fan are irrelevant - I care more about racing and courageous drivers (regardless of their gender, nationality, race, sexual preferences etc.) and not about skin colour, gender, and affiliation to LGBTQ+ community - I watch F1 for pure racing and not to be educated on things that are not in the job description of a driver - I can find this info elsewhere - the author tried his best to include a female driver for each decade of F1 even though the drivers did not even qualify for any race and mentioning them is done only for the sake of bowing to the "new" F1 that is going through transformations and not good ones for the old diehard fans; - the book tried to compress too much info into 250 pages - it is similar to a wine tasting - when tens of types of wines are tasted and they all blend together and in the end, you do not know what wine you actually liked.
In conclusion - a beautiful style and interesting info up to the 1990s and a description of a bleak future for me for Formula 1 that will probably lose its old fans and be replaced by new ones. Formula 1 is not supposed to be a political platform and drivers are not admired for being philosophers or politicians - this can be found somewhere else. Citing Senna on this simple idea " ...it was pure driving, pure racing. There wasn't any politics then, right? No money involved, either. So, it was real racing. And I have that as a very good memory." Those times will never come back, the romantic times of F1 and that is a fact clearly realised after reading the book. All in all a 5 star out of 5 for newcomers to Formula 1 and probably 2 out of 5 for the old fans nostalgic for the turbulent 1970s and 1980s. ...more

Seneca's style of talking to his brother is soft and reassuring as a father to his son. A lot of wisdom for tough times and tips on how to build resilience without imposing them on the reader. BuHe is a rather controversial author and some of his ideas are just unacceptable to today's readers. I wanted to give the book a maximum of 2 stars. But if you resist the urge to throw away the book after reading the first 40 pages or so, some of his ideas are applicable to what is happening today. I never thought that many struggles we are going through in Europe today and I always have seen as only contemporary are so old. The same ideas about the threat of socialism and the debates on immigration. So I decided that the book deserved 3 stars... But one idea at the end of the book made me go for 4 stars and I cite: "As to Russia, it has evolved too recently from the regime of the "mir", that is to say, from primitive Communism, the most perfect form of Socialism, to return to this inferior stage of evolution. It has other destinies. It is doubtless Russia that will one day furnish the irresistible flood of barbarians destined to destroy the old civilisations of the West, whose end will have been led up to by economic struggles and Socialism". It is rather unbelievable that someone more than 100 years ago predicted what us happening today with Russia. Just wow....more

The book is rather boring to read having a very one sided approach in trying to show only thr benefits of religious beliefs, totally ignoring the bad parts. The style.of the book is very academic, making it really difficult to read. The title is a bit misleading. At least 2/3 of the book describes the events of the French Revolution. It is a pity the author has not had the time to use as a reference the Russian revolution because it would be much more interesting. In any event, it is an interesting book, only it is outdated and does not consider modern development on the topic. The book is also mainly about history and not the psychology of crowds in my view.
The beginning of the book and the ending are the most interesting. The intro of the book talks about the main emotions that are involved or are causing revolutions: hatred, fear, ambition, envy, vanity and enthusiasm. It tells you the author was not a fan of revolutions. And it resonates with me, especially if you read the stories happening during the French and Russian Revolutions of 1917 - horrifying stories. And the ending is basically replying to many who criticise the author. First of all, we all must understand that we cannot know what the future morality will look like and I am 100% sure many of the values we consider normal today will constitute a crime in 100 or more years - good examples probably are the way we treat animals and the way we reproduce even, but still many people prefer to rate the bok with one star because of the racist and misogynist views of the author, which were mainstream during his lifetime.
One last idea that marked me from the book and I'll leave it here without any comments: "Nature does not know such thing as equality. She distributes unevenly genius, beauty, health, vigour, intelligence, and all the qualities which confer on their possessors a superiority over their fellows"....more

I was not so interested in the topic until I began reading the negative reviews for this book and I do not regret it. For some, it is traumatising to read something that goes against their ideological beliefs. I agree sometimes the author includes his opinions or interpretations on the observations he conducted during his career, but this is why books are printed - to express opinions. But at his age, he can afford to do that, since the risks of cancelling are not relevant anymore.
This book should be read as it is - observations made on bonobos, chimps and other apes are used to explain some human behaviours. They might be wrong or right, but this is an interpretation and the author is entitled to do that. Just relax and enjoy the book, let go of the ideological constraints, the book is full of funny and interesting stories from the primate world and is worth your time....more

It is written in a funny style and has a contemporary approach to describing the myths of the past. Be careful, the book is not an encyclopedia and the logical structure makes sense initially, but it quickly overwhelms the reader with many names and stories. As well my feeling is that it is a good book in these times when people suffered and will continue to go through this pandemic – there is a lot of depression and lack of socialization, so the book gives some excellent tips on how to cope with hardships in life.
In the beginning, the chapters seemed a bit too obvious for me and repeating things I know already very well, but it got better and better with every chapter I continued reading. So, I liked the ending chapters a lot. This book is a good starting point for beginners and occasional readers of philosophy and psychology, it is a bit easy for advanced users.
Some things that I liked a lot: - the easiness of reading it, - the design of chapters with a nice ending helping the reader to have order in his or her mind on the key points, - the nice quotes of various interesting authors, - the cute figures are designed to help the reader understand - and the most important of all – the tips it is giving to its readers to cope with various life situations.
The things that were not so good: - for an advanced reader the beginning seems very slow, - the book is covering a rather large topic.
In conclusion a 5 out of 5 for the occasional reader and 4 out of 5 for an advanced reader of philosophy and related topics.

Probably, it would be better for a book on this topic to have two authors taking sides on the arguments presented. But in this format is a subjective view on complex questions regarding Christianity. As usual for classic zealots, the author uses the bible to prove his points. Plenty of personal feelings and experiences are also used, which is just not convincing. Although the structure of the text seems a bit rushed and crude, the conclusive part and the ending letters explain the book's central message in a very original manner. I believe that the author was so tired of listening to the bullshit coming from various people around him that he decided to classify the most used tricks and fallacies used by multiple religious zealots, conspiracy theorists, psychics, alien believers, homoeopathy practitioners, Marxists etc. The last 30 pages are fun to read, and for those who have been through the process of brainwashing, it brings many memories, not all pleasant.
