“One to be a murderer, the other to be martyred. One to be a monarch, the other to go mad.”
This book shouldn't be categorized as a romance. Not because it doesn't have any romance in it - it does, i assure you - but because that romance is merely an element of the entire story. The truth is that this book is a tragedy. It is a tale of hoping against hope, a story whose end we always knew, yet one where we can't help but wish that, somehow, this time the ending would be different. It’s about trying to change your fate. Most of all, it's a tragedy, not because it ended this way but because it was always going to end this way.
˗ˏˋ ꒰ the writing ꒱ ˎˊ˗
I've always been a fan of Meyer's writing and the way she incorporates fairytales into her own stories. It’s incredibly satisfying when you reach a point you already anticipated because of the retelling element, but it still hits because it's so perfectly integrated into the book *chef's kiss*
Her quotes are supreme. They make me feel so freaking much like:
“Perhaps we know each other in the future and you’re only remembering backward.”

I actually don't remember the last time a book made me feel this much. This happy, this emotional, this sad. I had to close the book at some moments, close my eyes and put the book on my face because of the number of things i was feeling.

(This is going to be my review for this series as a whole)
Words cannot express the amount of love and adoration i have for this entire series. I remember how i was avoiding this series at first. My thoughts were along the lines of: "FBI Agent falls in love with a criminal. Nice, but i'll pass". But one of my friends convinced me to read this and i finally gave in. I still remember the day i started reading this series. Needless to say, i was hooked from the first page - and this is not a statement i use lightly. Rarely do books ever grip my attention from the start. But this one did.
It's a gorgeous gorgeous book. Calling it a romance seems like i'm somehow undermining all the other things in this book. It's so much more than a romance. It's about revenge, about friendship, about justice, about the sheer cruelty of this world. I never knew i was this big a fan of brutal revenge until i read this series. It had me crying, it had me smiling, at some points i got literal goosebumps all over my body.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ The Writing:
The writing is so easy to get into. And moreover, it is simplistic but still manages to make you feel so so much. I didn't expect the revenge to be this descriptive but it was and i'm literally so thankful that it was, because some people totally deserve that type of revenge - in fact they deserve worse. The chapters are short and easy to read. You'll absolutely fly through the book, i can assure you.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ The Plot:
Yes, yes - criminal commits murder and torture of some specific people, falls in love with the FBI agent who is literally leading the search against her. That's what the premise says. But the story is all that and so much more. The reveals, the way the past comes to light as we move through the book and face different series of events ughhh even talking about it is making me want to re-read the series because it's just so infinitely clever.
The way everything fits so perfectly and wraps up ...more

˗ˏˋ ꒰ 1. pip's brilliance ꒱ ˎˊ˗
If anyone other than Pip had taken on this case in the book, they wouldn't have been able to solve it. It's her way of thinking, her character that serves as the basis for why she was able to crack the case. The book was what it was because Pip solved everything; it was Pip who saw things no one else could. In short, it was Pip's brilliance that solved the case.
But in the TV show—her brilliance just isn’t there. Anyone could’ve been in her place, and they might have potentially solved the case too. I couldn't feel those "big brain" moments in the TV show that I could so naturally associate with book Pip.
It's stark when you compare the two. Book Pip was a force of nature. TV show Pip was just—eh.
˗ˏˋ ꒰ 2. book ravi vs. tv show ravi ꒱ ˎˊ˗
One thing I liked about book Ravi was that he shined on his own but never overshadowed Pip. He added to her ideas, helped her when needed, but it was always Team Ravi and Pip.
TV show Ravi, on the other hand—oh god, I couldn't even feel any chemistry between them. Their relationship and his character as portrayed in the show was so disappointing to me.
˗ˏˋ ꒰ 3. the relationship between pip and her stepdad ꒱ ˎˊ˗

Namal borrows the name from one of the Surah of Quran (Surah Namal). Namal means ants, which are considered to be one of the most unique creature of Allah. The novel "Namal" revolves around the people who are considered as the weakest elements of the society, just like the ants who are apparently the weakest of the creatures.
This novel enchanted our whole country for 30 months (It was published monthly). Honestly, when it was still being released episode by episode it was all we could talk about.
Namal’s story is a complex matrix and summarizing it can do injustice to it. But to get a gist, here it goes. Faris Ghazi (an intelligence officer) is convicted for the murder of his step-brother and wife and attempted murder of his relative Zumar Yousuf. His nephew (bhanja) Saadi Yousuf is convinced of his innocence and ultimately gets him out of the jail. On the other hand, Saadi’s aunt (Phupho) Zumar who also happens to be a district attorney lost her kidneys in the assault and is convinced that Faris is guilty, mostly because of a fake telephone call in Faris’s voice to Zumar prior to the attack. The actual guilty one is Hashim Kardaar (Faris’s first cousin) who, apart from being an accomplished lawyer, owns an inherited oil cartel. Hashim murdered Faris’s brother Waris in order to hide his corruption cases and in order to cover his tracks created the scenario in which Zumar was shot and Faris’s wife was murdered.
Our story begins on the day when Saadi gets Faris out of the jail. And thus begins the story of murder and revenge.
Does Faris know that it was Hashim who sent him to jail? Is Zumar ever going to believe Faris? What will the Kardaars do, now that Faris is out of jail? Is Faris going to exact his revenge on Hashim?
Seems simple enough right? But it's not. Oh it's not. If i could i would start writing the whole story in English right now i would, because this is a masterpiece and it's one of my favorites. Does that say enough?...more

Shahrzad knew it was Khalid. She sensed rather than saw him. As always. As ever. As a rose to the sun. Her knees shook. A chill ran from the nape of her neck to the soles of her feet. “Shahrzad?” Low and unassuming. Unmistakable. When Shahrzad met his gaze, everything around her melted away. Even the driving rain came to a sudden standstill. A moment suspended in time. A pair of amber eyes across a balcony. And there was no more fear. No more worry. No more judgment. Her knees no longer shook. Her heart steadied in her chest. In that moment of perfect balance, she understood. This peace? These worries silenced without effort? It was because they were two parts of a whole. He did not belong to her. And she did not belong to him. It was never about belonging to someone. It was about belonging together.

“Where are you going?” Shahrzad asked, her forehead creasing. “A small force is gathering at the border of Khorasan and Parthia under a new banner. The emirs in that region are nervous and wish to discuss strategy, should an altercation arise.” “Oh.” She frowned. “How long will you be gone?” “Two, maybe three weeks.” “I see.” Shahrzad chewed on the inside of her cheek, trying to remain silent. His smile returned. “Two weeks, then.” “Not three?” “Not three.” “Good.” He regarded her with steady amusement. “Again, I'm glad.” “I'd rather you be careful than glad. And return safe.” She dropped her voice. “Or you'll be met with a platter of figs.” His eyes gleamed gold. “My queen.” He bowed with a hand to his brow before shifting it over his heart. Respect. And affection. As he made his way toward the entrance, disappointment began eking in Shahrzad's spirits. It was not the kind of good-bye she wanted. “Khalid?” He pivoted to face her.
