This one is a short, but gorgeous book about growing up, about science, about family, and a bit about goldfish.
I absolutely loved the book,4.5 stars.

I absolutely loved the book, though I have rated it 4.5 and not 5 for one reason: The Grandfather, I know, I know he is technically an adult, but looks like a teenager now and is under the care of his daughter. He had good times (like when he taught Ellie science, or tried to steal that jellyfish) but he also had times that I just hated him. For how he acted with his daughter, how he embarrassed her a few times, how he never seemed happy with her choices (she picked theatre, while he wanted her to get PhDs). I wish he could just be happy for her, see that she is happy, that she has a good life, with a great boyfriend.
I loved the premise. Grandfather finds a cure for old age, and turns in a teenager. Things happen and he is now under the care of his daughter. I really liked that, the thought that a jellyfish might hold the answers to old age and fountain of youth. And I also liked the idea of someone old turning back to a teenager. Especially in this age with all the things that are so new and that older people don't always know or use.
I loved Ellie, she was a wonderful character and I just loved seeing her growing up, from a kid who didn't know what she liked, who was wondering if she was at the wrong place (both her parents love theatre, she not so much), to a kid who knew she loves science, that she takes after her Grandfather, that she has a place now. She loses one friend, but luckily finds a new one. One who doesn't ditch her for other things.
I loved the ending (my favourites: Mom + Ben, the slippers (read and you find out their meaning)).
I would truly recommend this book to everyone. Me? I will be buying this one when it comes out in paperback, since I just got to have this on my bookshelves. :)

Tillie and Clementine are two very adorable little girls, and I loved how they are so imaginary (though it might also proof that Daddy has to watch what he is telling, since they believe him so fast and even think there is a real dragon outside). I am still wondering how they are sisters, since they are so different. When I first saw this book I thought they were best friends who have a nice sleepover, and with that an adventure, but it turns out they are sisters.
Not that that makes the book any less good, not at all, I really enjoyed the story. Poor Dad though, I do wonder why he didn't just ring the doorbell, I am sure the girls can go down a staircase and open the door (especially if they can see it is Dad (since they have see-through doors)). Oh well, I guess this was added for good reasons. I do wonder though, did the girls not see it was their dad? Didn't they hear him shouting? Imagination is one thing, but seeing a totally different reality?
Now for the art, it was a fun art style, a bit cartoonish. At times I was sad because of the lack of backgrounds. I mean, they are girls, right? So why is the wall in their bedroom white? The floor white? Same goes for quite a few things. I think it would have been more fun if the backgrounds were added.

This is a review for the ARC.
Who doesn't know the legend/story of Bloody Mary? It a very known story, and lots of kids try to summon her by chanting: Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary. Most of the time nothing happens, but in this book, the summoning goes all wrong.
Now I read the book for the following reasons: 1. I love horror books (zombies, ghosts, hauntings, I love them). 2. The cover (after all I still judge books by their cover). 3. Mary (since I love her legend).
The characters are awesome, I especially loved Shauna, she was a true fighter and I loved how real she seemed. Everything she does, trying to get rid of her friends for their sake, to trying to find out what happens, to her terror and fright when Mary pops up everywhere she goes.
The only character I didn't like was Jesse, I already had my suspicions regarding her motives, and I was right. Jesse is the kind of girl who would do anything to get what she wants, if that means sacrifices a few lambs, um friends, so be it. I truly hated her attitude, I wouldn't call her a friend. Friends don't sacrifice friends to get to a goal. So when the ending came, I was at one hand horrified, at the other I was cheering. She got what she deserved. Though I do think no one deserves the wraith of Mary.
My oh my, Mary was super scary, we get lots of details on her looks, details on what she does, and her scary practices. It really creeped me out, especially since I read part of this book while it was night. Now it is day, and well, I am still creeped out, and I think I will avoid mirrors and such. :)
Because that is what the book was, creepy, horrifying, gruesome and at times a bit gory.
Of course the book isn't all about Mary, Mary, but also about friendship and how that goes under stress when this kind of event happens. There was drama (also some boy drama), but I think it fitted, it made the characters more real, more alive.
For one thing, thanks to the author for that Bronx thing, I was worried it would go one way, but it ended up in the right way. Thanks.
The book ends with a cliffhanger, which was a shame, but seems logical since we still have a book 2 or 3 coming. Still, I hope those won't take long, I am not sure if I can stand years of waiting to find out what happens to Shauna and her friends. I also really want to know more about Mary's past, how did she come to be as she is now (though we already found out something, and my, I can imagine someone would turn in a lunatic and start haunting people).
Would I recommend this book? Yes, yes I would. Though I would recommend this one to the ones who can handle horror books. Like I said, there a bit of gore and it is pretty creepy/scary.
Time for a re-read. I know for sure that I did re-read it between 2015 and now, but apparently Goodreads just gave up on it. XD I just absolutely LOVETime for a re-read. I know for sure that I did re-read it between 2015 and now, but apparently Goodreads just gave up on it. XD I just absolutely LOVE LOVE this graphic novel featuring all sorts of haunting and scary stories and I love Emily Carroll's art style. The stories are haunting, scary, spooky, and OMG NOPE. I love it so much. Still cannot write a review longer than this because my feels are all over the place. This book is just TOO GOOD. I just hope that the artist makes a new big book like this one someday, I really hope so. ...more
A father brings back a mask from one of his travels… but is it really there to protect? Or does it bring evil?
I am still rereading the You’re Invited A father brings back a mask from one of his travels… but is it really there to protect? Or does it bring evil?
I am still rereading the You’re Invited to a Creepover. I don’t have them all any more as I got rid of a couple I wasn’t a big fan of, but I got most. I don’t want to rush through them so for now I am reading through them slowly. Such a shame that no more of these books are coming out.
In this one we have an evil mask. I am already not a big fan of those fancy masks, they are often quite scary and from the descriptions this one sounds like a terror. It was supposed to be a good mask, but apparently dad never heard of manners and despite repeated no from the maker decided to just snap some more photos. How dumb are you? And he knows what he brought home. He knows he brought horror into the place. The mask itself and all that happens when it is in the house (or later in the treehouse) were delightfully spooky and creepy. It definitely was a good idea to read this one at night. ...more
