I liked the story, or I would not have finished it. Compelling characters, no obvious clichés and a variety of original occurrences. The narrator, though, seemed to think it is time accurate to sound bored. Half of his sentences ended with a prolonged vowel, making it sound winy. He often mixed up or forgot the voices. The spoken parts were performed, but all the narrator lines had the same droning inflection....more

Although the voices and emotions were I found this quite original and the characters were compelling and complex. What I disliked, was the narration. Although the voices and emotions were all there, I got a toothache from the sweet, dreamy lispel of her performance. I wondered if the technician forgot to place a filter, because all the t's and s's were far too sharp and harsh. Add to that the strange pronunciation of the letter a. I know the English say 'ah' where the Americans say 'eh'. But I never before heard an 'ah' vowel in words like back, perhaps et cetera. It always made me look up and get distracted....more

This story has several main characters from the whole series and their points of view are all included. Some dialogs contained unnaturally long monologs and I found the biological father of the adopted girl unnecessarily over the top.
The narrator did read it like a phone book. No voices, no emotions, no pause when swiching to a new paragraph with a different point of view. I did not understand who I was listening to for most of the novel. Add to that the low hum of trafic in the back ground, and I wonder if the author cried when she heard what they did to her work....more
