Going absolutely feral over Vincent and Oraya’s relationship. Readers have to realize it’s more the story of their complicated family dynamic vs Raihn and Oraya’s relationship. 0.5 deducted because it would’ve low key slapped if a certain character died even though it would’ve torn me up. ...more

Provocative interesting read with exquisite prose at times and ok dialogue at other times. A lot of elements definitely a jack of all trades master of none vibe. Neither fully a romance, scifi, thriller, mystery, lit fic, nor stream of consciousness book. Dry unlikeable FMC. But wow Graham Gore was single handedly carrying the banter and personality in the book on his back. What a charming/enchanting/lovely MMC. Very much like a victorian Doctor Who character. Hard to recommend to the average reader due to its nuanced style. Maybe for someone who wants to read something uniquely different. ...more

Quil- wowowow I LOVE Quil. He is thoughtful, strong, but also has a little boyish charm which is endearing
Sufiyan- also so cute and wholesome
So great to see Laia, Elias, and Helene again as well.

This book was recommended to me by Prash and I am pleasantly surprised at how much I actually liked it. It’s written from the pov of Thane and Cienna: childhood friends from the same planet but different villages. I liked following them throughout the years of being kids, teenagers in training, and then adults in the empire. It’s a slow burn romance with reoccurring chance encounters but never felt overdone/cheesy. Enough would happen between them meeting again and I also enjoyed the slow shift in change of perspective towards one another and also their relationship with the empire.
The only downside being it ends on a semi cliffhanger!! It could’ve been worse but definitely left me wanting more. I’m also not a huge lore/star wars fan so I was definitely looking up all the ships/planets/species online while reading. And not necessary but it helps to have watched the movies. ...more

I was unsure how Tahir would do in this non fantasy piece but her story**spoiler alert** I loved this book and cried multiple times while reading it. I was unsure how Tahir would do in this non fantasy piece but her storytelling through multiple POVs was *chef’s kiss*.
Salahudin’s upbringing reminded me of my own. His love for his mother despite her secrets and declining health, his distaste for his father’s disappointing vices, and trying his best to make sense of trauma that occurred at such a young age. His grief felt like my grief.
Noor’s pov I think was the least captivating of the three but still enchanted me with its repetitive processing of abuse and desire for more than the life given in Juniper. I liked how they paced the romantic relationship between her and Salahudin as well. It was never the main point but added to the overall plot instead of competing for it.
Misbah’s pov was top tier and I kept wanting more. Similar to my own mom and what I would imagine her thought process to be like. Her death in the first couple chapters of the book caught me off guard but understandably necessary for there to be enough time to grieve the loss of her.
Truly a one of a kind book and nothing like I’ve read before. Looking forward to what Tahir comes out with next. She’s definitely an insta read author for me. ...more

The raid depicts L**spoiler alert** SPOILERS AHEAD (also not really a review but a summary of the book so I don't forget when I continue this series!)
The raid depicts Laia losing her grandparents and brother and her trying to get the resistance to help her and in return she has to be the commandment's slave in Blackcliff who is Elias' mother, the trials were interesting there were 4 (courage, cunning, strength, and loyalty) augurs are interesting creatures who can see into the future and Laia as the prize was an interesting twist almost cried because of Zak and Marcus though moon festival scene was really cute with the dancing and elias' tribal name and him speaking sadhese man oh man, body and soul really thought Elias was going to die for a hot second but the team pulled through and glad Izzi was saved. Keenan (cute redhead resistance fighter but kinda bland), Elias (ughhhhhh my heart. He's so strong but soft at the same time), Marcus (snake aka the worst human being ever and is now emperor though), Mazen (pretty sure he's the traitor of the resistance), Laia (decent protagonist, set on saving her brother Darin even though they have to save him from Kauf the worst prison ever), Helene (I really feel bad for her and honestly was rooting for her at times, she just fell in love with Elias and oof rough that he said he would never be in love with her ack loved the depth of their backstory and anecdotes of their childhood), Cook (the greatest mystery and I have so many questions), Commandment (WHO IS ELIAS'S DAD??? My guess is a tribal man since she has the tattoo I think on her wrist which indicates a married woman, I need to know). ANGRY THAT HELENE HAS TO SERVE MARCUS UGH SO SO ANGRY TAHIR WHY DO YOU MAKE ME FEEL SO MANY THINGS?!)
Can't wait to read the rest of this series but might wait until they all come out so I can binge read it. ...more
