I kinda loved how the men were stupid but thought the chicks were dumb so they totally underestimated Liv. Now, here is the deal. Liv is immune to the island. Which means that its influence and its 'magic water' doesn't work on her at all like it does the other women that come to the island. Roen came through for me as a strong, yet still Alpha. He respected Liv, but at the same time he was so bent on keeping her safe he didn't stop to think that she could do that all on her own and his way of keeping her safe actually endangered her.
The pacing on this book was must faster than the first. The first built the world and boy were you in it, now that the stage was set the book hit the ground running and didn't stop. I loved how Liv was the one to unravel EVERYTHING! But that ENDING! ZOMG! I'm STILL thinking about that ending two days later! I don't know if I want to hate or love Shane. I don't know if he wants her as a mate or if he just wants what he knows isn't really his anyways. But when we were in his head for that very brief amount of time I didn't get hostility from him, I got something totally different he way I hated him the whole two books and I was like WHAT THE---?
Now, who the heck is in the tank? I think I know how is in the tank but it is a Mimi book so I could be totally wrong!
As a warning this book does end on a HUGE cliffhanger and the last book isn't out until November. So on that note if you are the whiny type, wait for them all to be out. I would also like to note that I read books one and two in under 8 hours.

The first book made me question, I overlooked the annoying heroine for the awesome world building and actual storyline.
We first met Sophia in Claimed, she is the twin sister to Olivia. They are totally identical aside from the hair color. Now, in that book you first see the connection between her and Sylvan. You know its there, they sort of unconsciously calm and ease each other worries. We see Sophia as strong albeit a little erratic and fanatical in her need to get her twin back from one of the Kindred.
In this book we are in her actual brain and see why she needs Olivia so much and what her fears are. Now, Evangeline really took on a hot button issue and I think between the male and the female characters she handed it brilliantly.
Sophia was assaulted sexually in high school her Senior year of high school. She was then tormented more by her attacker in order to insure her silence. Now, I bet you ask, where are the parents? Well, the parents were killed in a car crash and it was just her and her twin and another friend. Instead of dealing with it head on she bottled it, which in reality, a lot of victims do. She become guarded and introverted in a very believable way.
Now, enter Sylvan. He knows there is something based on her reactions to him. She's afraid of his size, sexual hunger, and dominance. Finally fishing the story out of her, he is one of the most sympathetic males I have ever come across in romance! That to me made him more Alpha than any Alpha male in most books!
Just a note: A man that is willing to work through the trauma with a woman who was attacked, and shows her compassion, does not make him a push over or weak, it means he's gives a crap! I loved how this whole story was written. The elements of racism that was worked in by the other class of alien races was a stroke of genus and I was riveted by every page of this amazing love story.
Evangeline I am coming to find knows how to mix a little bit a dark into each book she writes. Keeping the reader on her toes as a whole!

And here I didn't think it could get anymore twisted than King's story and I was oh so totally wrong. I seriously went into this book like a giddy school kid. I didn't know what I was going to get and what mytho was going to tossed at me and I found that my jaw was on the floor 90% of the time. Roen I liked straight away. I have a habit of liking the broken man, and he's totally not broken in the wrong way, and he quickly does a 180 when he sets his eyes on Liv. I adore Liv! I appreciated her strength, her stubborness and her ability to love Roen unconditionally even if she believed he'd gone all wrong. This is a shorter story than the King books but it packs this crazy punch that your left thinking about it days, possibly WEEKS later. I can honestly say that I had a huge book hangover after this book and I read it in about 3-4 hours. I devoured it because just when you thought it was getting slow it slapped you across the face to wake you up!
I want to know what the author's writing process is, because she honest took a fantastic legend and really molded it to flow and eb perfectly. I wasn't confused I was dying for more and she trickled it out and you were left sucking in air and having everyone in the room look at you like you are out of your ever loving mind!
If you love mermaids, obscured legends, and something different in your reading library, dive into this one!
And since everyone has to be baby walked into books these days, yes there is cliffhanger, but yes book two is out already. ...more

The last series that wow'd me this much was the fever series by Karen Marie Moning.
In the fail installment of The King Trilogy was are not only taken on very dark journey but we travel back in time and unlock so many answers to the questions we had. We find out what King really is, we find out who Mack is (I'm gonna be honest, I did kinda figure that one out in book two), and Mia totally blooms into what she is truly meant to be. I want to see Mimi's story outline for these books because they had to be intense, and for the people bitching that it took too long. Ummmm Karen Marie Moning takes 15 months between months, we didn't even have to wait a full year for not just a full length novel, but one with such a fully developed story arc that I was left sleepless, happy, totally sated, and in a nerd girl happy place.
I have to say this story went dark, and it sort of sucker punches you when it does. It is all sunshine and roses, you are thinking, "Oh here comes the uber lovin' and romance," then BAM! Mimi shows you King and what he is capable of and it's not pretty, and everything that he has done and all that he is is making so much sense. In that darkness Mia finds her answers by getting thrust back into time before King's curse, before he was betrayed, and meets the man. And boy what a man he is. Still Alpha, still kinda a douche, but you fall in love with all the parts of him and you can see why Mia does also.
For a series that was laid out so quickly, I have to say that I'm totally impressed. I recommend this series to everyone!...more

We know for the most part that King might not be the big bad that we So, we move on to book two with a whole lot of questions and only a few answers. We know for the most part that King might not be the big bad that we thought he was. Or, he is, and he is just really good and hiding it. For the most part this story took us on a roller coaster ride that didn't stop until the end and then left us hanging from a cliff. I happen to like cliffhangers it makes the reader give a crap in my humble opinion.
We find Mia on her own and without the aide of King. She got her brother back, but his story isn't washing and a new twist has entered the game. If King doesn't show up in 24 hours. ALL of King's possessions belong to a sociopathic nutjob that wants to hump Mia AFTER removing all her flesh. So, enter Mia attempting to be King and play his game, his way. I have to say Mia has HUGE character development in this installment. She sheds the parts that make you want to repel Mia out of a building and she grows as a character to realize that she might only have herself -- and Mack to depend on. Even Mack proves to be breakable even in all his awesomeness.
About half way through the book (I power read these books without sleeping so forgive me if my percents are off here) we find out that this whole situation was a set up by King. Again, Mia is finding her world crumbling around her, trusting no one but her family, yet her family is in danger. With King still unwilling to let her go, she is put back into his demented world with few choices and no other option other then to play his game. But let's all remember, she played King for a day and did a pretty damned good job. If the person requesting the possessions hadn't been the one to have kind in the first place, I think she would've pulled it off.
The story is once again rich, well developed, and intense. It isn't easy and you have to think while you read. So if you don't want something just handed to you on a silver platter like most books these days, I recommend staying way. Mimi gives you a deep, complicated universe that only the true readers of UF can handle....more

I tendI went into this book without any kind of huge expectations. I'd seem some really great things said about the series, and some really negative. I tend to buy things based on the negative. So, I took a chance and grabbed it up. The first thing that really got me hooked was how well Ms. Pamfiloff does the Alpha male. He's crass, hot, smoldering, and doesn't take no for an answer. King is all the wonderful things we should really hate in a male but can't resist because you know at the end of the day you are going to live because of him.
Mia, oh Mia, she was quite possibly one of the best arc'd characters that I've read. Now, I'm writing this review after reading the whole series. I should stop doing this but this series was like crack and I wasn't about to stop for anything. Mia, at first meet cute you don't really know how to feel about our daring little heroine. Honestly, I don't think Mia knew how far she would, or was willing to go at the end of the day. She was a very real female lead. She had doubt, vulnerabilities, and she wasn't going to let a man that kept things from her lead her life or what she was doing, which was hunting for her missing brother.
As for the story arc, it was almost divine. You weren't expecting what was going on, and it gave a whole new original spin to everything I've read before in the urban fantasy verse, and let's be honest and call this urban fantasy because the story is far too deep and well developed for the romance genre. I think that is what most people are missing about this that slam it. They don't really get how rich and well planned out this world is that Mimi thrusts us into. She not only writes a very fast paced first book in a series with world building, but she also keeps you interested. It does help that the sexual tension is literally sizzling off the pages and your almost too hot while reading to keep reading hoping the author throws no more smexy.
I highly recommend this book for fans of urban fantasy and are just sick of the same ole same ole....more
Oui Maks. I didn't think I would enjoy him as much as I did. He seemed like the easiest of the three brother's and I thought for sure that I would be Oui Maks. I didn't think I would enjoy him as much as I did. He seemed like the easiest of the three brother's and I thought for sure that I would be able to handle him without tears... HA! Yeah right, I totally forgot I was reading a Kresley Cole book. Notorious for making me sob like a baby in EVERY immortals after dark book. Not one left me not screaming, crying, and kicking things in frustration!
In this installment of the Game Maker series, we get to dive head first into Maksim, brother to Aleks aka Roman. Roman was one heck of a challenge and I didn't know how I could possibly get more frustrated with a man. Well, then you enter someone that is very arrogant and instead of just making it easy on everyone and saying, "Hey I like you, let's see how this works." Maks has to go the long way round. Which I believe actually helped Cat to fall in love with him all the more because she was under the impression it was based on one thing, when in fact we know Maks knew pretty much most of the truth the whole time, atleast that she wasn't really an escort lol.
Krelsey Cole is the master of the Alpha male, I read one of her books and then I go to another and the men all pale in comparison and I'm left disappointed and thinking about rereading the IAD series because I know I'll get some hella barbarians in that series. Oh the demon men....
Oh, wait, Russian Mobsters, right.
So, I know we are all in for it with Dimitri's book. He seems like he got the worst of them all and is the most bitter. I'm just not sure what woman you could toss at him where he wouldn't just totally break her, he seems pretty--well--scary.

This one runs fast and kinda crazy! These aren't fast moving zombies but the author seems to spin an original take on this world and the virus. You get nice little tidbits and maybe a clue of those the virus started but the doctor is then killed. I would really like to encounter another person who knows what's going on. There has to be an underground group, there has to RIGHT!
There were times that this book rode a Walking Dead line. With the whole 'every human left alive is bad' deal. But you actually find goodness in the craziest places and the author redeems some of the bad humans. I do have a favorite character, and I have already shipped her with one of the men. Oddly enough this said man ends up saving her in a hoard and I was squeeing.
Then--the author--choose this character to stick in a tree and toss metaphorical rocks at her the entire book and how it ended with her!!!! I was screaming and asked for a spoiler from someone who read it lol
I'm sorry I had to know if my girl was in the next book! As far as zombie series goes, this is a total win. Very well written with gender equality and everything I LOVE about a zombie book!

I'm in zombie mode, and I kinda have this book to blame for it. This is one of the best zombie series that I've read. I think the thing that some people are misinterpreting is that this IS NOT romance, but they are reading it as romance. Anything can happen, and this series has already proved that ANYONE can die. The characters are at war. But they are at war with a walking virus of sorts with a puppet master working the strings we come to find out. In book one we assumed the virus was contained to Northern California. But quickly it goes global and our little team of misfit bada**es are on the move to try and clean up the mess as best they can.
In this book we get more of Nathan. See, I like Nathan. He's my favorite. I'm not the biggest fan of Gabriel mostly because I think I'm protecting myself from what I see as his end game. As a whole the book takes off right from the beginning and doesn't stop until the end. I'm worried about what is going to play out in the last book. I feel like its an open field for anyone to bite it and I want to cry. This book made me ugly cry quite a few times.

Each This is by far one of the best zombie books I've ever read. And it is awesome for a number of reasons. First, the characterizations are spot on. Each character that plays a part has a vibrant personality that pops off the page and even if you aren't really sure you like them, you kinda do because they make the whole of the storyline flow perfectly. It wasn't just the characters, even though right from the first page they fly out at you and then drag you back into this story you wish was totally real so you can play in it with them. It was the story. It ebbed and flowed so flawlessly that you were never bored, you cared about the internal dialogue, and you were racing the characters to the end of the story. This was a legit zombie story with fantastically laugh out loud moments, with characters you cried and needed to win, the little drops of fandoms made me scream and throw my fist in the air that I KNEW ALL OF THEM! I'm continuing the next book ASAP! I have to know how this all plays out and I'm so biting my nails. I know in zombie world no one is safe, but I can hope they are. If you are a zombie fan I highly recommend this series!

This one made me so happy to start with. I was on top of a cloud and I was so into the book that I had no clue that the author was going to toss the inevitable trouble at the reader. Then I was feeling it. I knew that something was coming. Our boys Zane and Brant were acting off. Even during the ceremony they were being silly and they were trying to get Tanya to doubt--to reconsider. If I was here I would've looked at both of them then and been like, "Um... wtf!" But she was in the moment, getting married/mated, and I get it! Then WHAMO! I cried... I was so hurt for her and I wanted to snatch her up and allow her to cry in my arms because she was totally justified in being as upset as she was. They don't get it. Well, I think Zane does get it but he was wrapped up in the whole 'Being the last one standing thing' and, le sigh... I'm jumping right into the final book now, its really late but I need to know what's going on like NOW!

We have a new character Estral and I'm so interested to see how these creatures living aside a modern human world could be so stuff in a rut! They believe in really old school traditions. Women are worshiped and at the same time is a shame threat that seems to hang over their head. It's not a bad thing because they are a different race of people and they are just believing in different, old ways of living. I'm glad that Tanya is going to be queen because I feel a whole lot of changes in the air. I can't wait to see her take her place and stand up and be like ummm no! I'm loving all the side characters. I think at times too much heart for the Alpha males to really stop and think about everything. I believe that in the end Zane is the more reasonable of the two men. He is rational, quick-witted, and really thinks about Tanya and her needs. I would say I totally thought Brant would be reasonable, but nope--he's kinda grinding on my nerves. Admitting to others he is aroused, but not to himself. As a whole this serial has a dynamic story arc, and I know a lot of people are all whiny about the serial format but the author has placed each volume into one book and a really good price, which I believe matches what it would be to buy one volume so you can enjoy away in one 'book'. I personally love the thrill of a cliffhanger, I like squealing and getting all anxious and having to start the next one right away! I'm in love and invested at this point, even if we are rolling into a possible vampire sandwich with Tanya in the middle!

Vampires, as a romance paranormal element are my first love. From the moment I cracked up Bram Stoker's Dracula I was a goner. Then you add in the whole paranormal element and the different and unique spin all these authors take on them and I'm a happy gal!
This story was so totally unique. Think The Bachelor for vampires. Only instead of 25 dates, all the 'eligible' women in the village must go to the ceremony that will pick the vampire kings new mate! It is basically them looking over the crowd and taking the girl that alarm bells go off for. This is set either in the current times or the near future. So it is a reality were vampires exist and they have government rules regarding vampires. The world building was very easy and I didn't spend time in the authors head with them struggling to info dump all over the place. The characters drove this story and specifically the lead female did. Jane is a strong independent woman that gets herself in over her head. From the first page I am feeling the story and the reality through her. Yes, this was a quick read therefore the author had to really plant us in this reality and through Jane, it is totally believable.
In this book vampires are vampires, and they are dark, sadistic, and sexy. I loved this story and I'm going to dive into the second one tonight. I can't stop! These are fantastic!

What a totally unique and awesome world that Mrs. Vale has created. This was a totally different spin on the shirt world and I love how believable and bright that the author brought it all too life. It was fun, dangerous, exciting, and sexy.
Olivia is a woman that is trying to get over some poor decision making in her life. She goes out in search of a bit of freedom and answers. Setting out on a short camping trip she gets caught up in a storm and saved by a mystery man. Enter Cody. Oh Cody, hunky, stupid alpha Cody. The poor guy was dealing with being a bear shifter all in his own not even realizing that there is whole clans that he could've gone to instead of living in the woods. He was all kinds of grumpy and that sooo worked for me when a bear shifter. He did do some stupid dude stuff, but I honestly think that it worked, considering how he'd been living for a considerable amount of time. I loved how the author weaved in The Den and I actually really want to see some more in that whole world and all those characters. There wasn't one character that wasn't vivid and brought to life. I would love to get a story about Ben and the Clan leader most of all. I love me some big bad leader bears! So, if the author happens to read this, wink-wink, I would LOVE to see more of these characters!
If you are into shifters, bear shifters to be exact, I think this is a fantastic read to feed that genre need!

I don't know many authors that can take 23 pages and makes me crave the world that they have created. But Mina does that for me. One of my favorite series is her City Wolves series in her smut-shorties and now she has this sci-fi world that made me believe I was actually in it. I give credit to Mitchell, I'm pretty sure he is the one that ramped up our grumpy mercenary and made me really believe all the introspect that was being pumped at me from his POV. I loved that Tessa is this straight laced woman that breaks under the demanding kiss of our Jensen. Talk about alpha male! Lordy help me I love when men write men because they are just so damned ALPHA! I know that we are building here. I know that Mina gives us hot smex to draw us in and then she creates conflict, war, and a little bit of trouble that our characters have to find a way out of. I can't wait for the rest of this series--and with the way Mina writes I'm sure I won't have to wait too long!

I am a sucker for a really good assassin/hitman book. There is just something about the cold, sexy air that surrounds hired killers that makes every part of my brain just light up and fire off. This book satisfied everything. You not only had a very intriguing and well thought out origin story for Jhay. Because every awesome hitwoman needs and origins story. This story sucked me in from page one and took me on a fast-paced, sexy, action ride that had me screaming, laughing, and routing for Jhay most of all.
The character behaviors and reactions were all very true to their experiences and who they were. I especially love the "I hate you." I love how Jhay could kill without blinking but had these random 'tantrums' Because lets face it, she lost all her childhood at age eleven. It wasn't just slowly stripped from her, it was ripped from her. Then when she could possibly have some sort of adult figure in her life, she too sort of takes advantage.
Everything was just brilliant. Not just a great story, but it flows, and builds, and then eases out to a fantastic ending that makes you totally satisfied while wanting another glimpse. I highly recommend this book to fans of dark readers, and suspense.

Armentrout can't write a bad book. At least for me. Every world that she creates, the characters villain or hero, they are characters that you can get on board with. I am so on board with this series and I am snapping at the bit to get back around to it on my TBR list. I should be there very soon.
Jennifer has plunged the readers head first into the new 'relationship' between Seth and Alex. I personally adore Seth. Yes, it is technically easier in the long run. Even after they showed what happens to halfs and pures that mix, I feel like Aidan is being a bit, well, chicken s**t. Sorry, but people that really want something, really go for it. I feel like Seth is actually in love with Alex. Beyond the connection I NEED this to happen, I need Seth to have something out of all of this even if he doesn't get Alex. It just wouldn't be fair.
Jennifer's style reminds me so much of Joss Whedon. He is another writer that never does me wrong. The story is building and I am biting my nails to learn what other BS Alex is going to have to face.
