It was fun and hard to put down. Though I probably should have guessed whodunnit, I didn’t, right up until the end. The romance is very slowly blooming, and sweet as the two men are almost dancing around the idea of a romantic relationship. The murder kinda gets in the way of things, seeing as Ellery in Chief Carson’s only suspect for awhile. Also, there’s a puppy! The setting is also fun, and I can’t wait until the next book in the series comes out!...more

It was steamier than I would have thought, but the sex scenes were brilliantly written. The story itself was also not what I was expecting with a little murder mystery thrown in. This was an exciting read all the way around and I often had difficulty putting it down.
My only major con for this was the lack of scene breaks in each chapter. I was reading the ebook, and maybe the print copy didn't have this problem, I don't know. It was just odd to be immersed in one scene and then thrust into another without warning. ...more
Halfway through this and there isn’t a plot in sight. I don’t know why the characters are running away, or what they hope to gain by doing so. I feel Halfway through this and there isn’t a plot in sight. I don’t know why the characters are running away, or what they hope to gain by doing so. I feel like I’m being teased about some big secret regarding the MC, but I’m also not being given enough information to keep me caring. No one is actively investigating the murder mystery either. The MC, Veronica, was hilarious and strong in the beginning. I really liked her attitude but over time she hasn’t changed a bit. She’s trying to hard to keep up a strong facade. While she seems to act and think herself better than men, she sure does let herself get led around by them while not knowing the big secrets they’re keeping from her or where they’re taking her.
I do know the big secret about Veronica, thanks to someone’s spoiler tag, and I’m not impressed.
The narrator of the audiobook is really good though!
Sadly, this book needs better characters and an actual plot, something that resembles an actual murder mystery. I’m leaving this one unfinished for now. With five days left on my library book I doubt I’ll finish it, but we’ll see I suppose....more
Title/Author: The Book of Joy by the Dalai Lama & Archbishop Desmond Tutu Series/Standalone: Standalone Subject/Topic: Joy, peace, humanity, Book FormatTitle/Author: The Book of Joy by the Dalai Lama & Archbishop Desmond Tutu Series/Standalone: Standalone Subject/Topic: Joy, peace, humanity, Book Format: Print Length: 354 pages Violence: Both spiritual leaders have been through very tough times, and they do talk about them, but not in a graphic manner. Well written/Editor Needed: Well written Would I Recommend?: Yes! Personal thoughts: This book was amazing. I learned a lot about humanity and was thrilled that the Dalai Lama was quick to say their dialogues were for everyone in the world, regardless of your chosen spiritual path. I also really appreciated the scientific studies mentioned that backed up what both men were saying. Viewing the alternative way I grew up, a lot of what they said, such as people being more vulnerable to heart attacks if they are more self-centered, makes sense to me, but it was nice to have science back that up. It all boils down to looking outward. By helping others become happy, you bring happiness to yourself. Granted, there’s a lot more to it, and a lot of great questions were asked, and answered, about how to do that, especially with so much suffering in the world.
Honestly, this should be 9th grade required reading, if not middle school. This was such a wonderful book, with wonderful teachings on what it means to be human, and the Dalai Lama And Desmond Tutu are such wonderful people. I didn’t know much about them before reading this, but their humanness and their humor really show through.
I can’t recommend this book enough!
I will also recommend watching the movie Kundun, which is a dramatization of the Dalai Lama’s life since he was discovered at the age of two. I learned a lot about him and it was a beautiful movie! ...more
