Non sono una grande amante dei romanzi corali (fra l'altro i più difficili da scrivere, data la pletora di personaggi e di storie) perchè mi destabilizzano un po', soprattutto se fantasy. L'autrice però se l'è cavata bene, i personaggi sono ben caratterizzati, i tempi narrativi reggono, i vari intrecci vengono svelati al momento giusto. La prima parte mi è risultata davvero lenta e difficoltosa, anche perchè serve più che altro a spiegare il worldbuilding, le sue regole e chi lo abita, mentre la seconda si riprende, ha decisamente più azione e colpi di scena.
A me, proprio per gusto personale, non è una lettura che ha fatto impazzire; l'ho letta in breve tempo, ma, non mi ha sconfinferata abbastanza - anche se ormai ammetto che è difficile succeda. Figlia di sangue e rovina è il libro perfetto per chi ha amato ACOTAR: ci sono fae, tanto romance e tante ship, scene piuttosto forti e altre belle calde, c'è emozione, colpi di scena, personaggi forti e un bagaglio emotivo che si portano ovunque vanno.
In questo, il primo libro della serie dell'Ammazza-Fae mi è piaciuto, mi ha spinta a voler continuare la lettura e, una volta ultimata, mi ha lasciata con la curiosità di sapere come continua.
Ciò che, invece, mi ha fatto storcere un po' il naso è la gestione dei tempi narrativi. Durante tutta la lettura (ma in particolare nelle prime 200 pagine e poi nella costruzione dei romance) mi ha dato l'impressione che eventi che potevano materialmente occupare più posto ne occupano poco, per lasciare a volte spazio ad eventi che, invece, avrebbero potuto occupare meno spazio. Stessa cosa avviene per ciò che riguarda gli spostamenti, la costruzione delle relazioni e la coerenza cronologica. Ciò porta a una trama che, soprattutto per la prima metà, non va molto avanti e nè si capisce dove vuole andare a parare.
Poi c'è un punto in cui le cose arrivano ad una svolta e da lì il lettore prende un bello scossone.
In ogni caso, la lettura è stata piacevole e leggerò anche il secondo!...more

Secondo me bisogna tenere a mente che è un libro pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1995. Io di solito preferisco libri con trame più intrecciate e personaggi più contaminati, ma l'ho trovata comunque una lettura piacevole, che si fa in poco tempo. Questo è un inizio di saga molto lineare, con personaggi che hanno una divisione piuttosto netta fra bene e male, moralità e immoralità. Ognuno ha il proprio posto nel mondo e nella storia e non vi si discosta. Nonostante questi elementi un po' troppo netti per i miei gusti, però, mi sono goduta la lettura. Ho trovato la trama interessante, ero curiosa di arrivare alla fine e l'idea della Morte, delle Porte e delle varie campanelle con ruoli e volontà diverse mi ha affasciata.
Unica cosa che ho trovato davvero forzata è stato l'interesse amoroso della protagonista. Sul finale mi ha fatto molto storcere il naso, mi è sembrato poco realistico. Vedremo però nei seguiti cosa accadrà e se riuscirà a farmi cambiare idea sul romance... che comunque chiamarlo romance è esagerato, non è il fulcro della storia ed occupa una parte di trama davvero minimale. Dopo 3 anni dall'uscita di La nona casa, la Bardugo torna con la serie dedicata ad Alex Stern, determinata a salvare Darlington dall'Infero. Anche se le dovesse costare tutto: la Lethe, Yale e il suo futuro.
Partiamo dai difetti: - sono passati 3 anni e, sebbene di solito mi vanti di avere buona memoria, a quanto pare non è proprio così, perchè a inizio lettura ero super disorientata. Non ricordavo assolutamente i dettagli di La nona casa e, solo a grandi linee, avevo chiara la trama generale. Man mano che leggevo ho ricordato la maggior parte dei dettagli ma anche per questo la lettura è stata difficoltosa. - lo stile. La Bardugo non mi ha reso facile leggere questo libro. Sono 500 pagine e mi sono pesate come fossero 1000. è stata un po' una tortura, leggevo per ore ma mi sembrava di non andare mai avanti perchè la trama non progrediva mai se non con estrema lentezza. Non l'ho mai trovato noioso, ma ci sono volute 300 pagine perchè mi sbloccassi e cominciassi a percepire l'evolversi della trama. - la chiarezza. Non scherzo, mi sono davvero sentita stupida mentre leggevo. Non riuscivo a capire l'evolversi logico di alcune scene che stavo leggendo, nè riuscivo a immaginarle. Non credo sia un libro scritto male ma credo sia un libro confuso e poco chiaro, non so se consapevolmente o meno. E questo è stato MOLTO frustrante.
Questo non vuol dire il libro non mi sia piaciuto perchè, davvero, l'ho adorato. è un dark academia molto elaborato e originale e i personaggi sono il punto forte della trama: iper caratterizzati, realistici, grigi, con pregi e soprattutto difetti. La successione di eventi, quando parte, è interessante con tutta la discesa all'Inferno, e mi è piaciuto il modo di farci conoscere ancora meglio i personaggi con i loro difetti e paure non solo caratterizzandoli ma soprattutto con le azioni e i plot twist. Spero solo di non dover aspettare tre anni ora per leggere il sequel!...more

Terzo libro della serie fantasy romance Blood and ash, La corona di ossa continua a seguire la storia di Poppy e Cas. Dopo la fine di Regno di carne e fuoco, questo libro comincia VOLANDO. Il libro precedente per la prima metà si era preso il suo tempo, ma questo no. Già dalla primissima pagina c'è azione e colpi di scena, nuovi quesiti, vecchie risposte e viceversa. Temevo potesse essere poco scorrevole dato che sono 766 pagine e i mattonazzi mettono sempre un po' d'ansia, invece ho navigato tra le pagine senza problemi e, arrivata alle ultime 200 pagine, avrei tanto voluto la lettura supersonica, perchè leggere a velocità umana con l'incredibile curiosità che avevo è stata una tortura (ma bella).
E vi dirò, la parte che mi è piaciuta di più non è neanche la storia fra Poppy e Cas - anche se ovviamente il romance occupa una buona parte della trama - ma la ricerca, la storia, le costanti domande su cosa sia vero e cosa no e su cosa succederà. Ho adorato il non avere un attimo di respiro, perchè l'evolversi delle cose non lo consente: succede sempre qualcosa o qualcos'altro viene rivelato. è un gioco costante di incastri e io sono impazzita.
Inoltre, fino a pagina 600 ero convinta di star semplicemente amando questo libro... poi sono arrivate le ultime 166 pagine. E là ho capito che avrei dovuto venerarlo! La parte finale del libro è il suo punto forte (oltre a Cas... e KIERAN. Amo Kieran), succede di tutto e di più e sono rimasta a bocca spalancata (sì, letteralmente) a implorare gli dei per aver presto i libri successivi. Perchè raga, credetemi, questo dovete leggerlo.
Non vi fate intimorire dalla mole, non si sente per nulla. E sì, siate invogliati dal romance bellissimo. Ma leggetelo per le rivelazioni e i plot twist. Non ve ne pentirete....more

Per il resto ci troviamo davanti a una storia prevedibilissima in ogni suo sviluppo, con personaggi che chiamarli stupidi come scolapasta è fargli un complimento, "romance" forzato e con un uso di termini che mi ha proprio lasciata allibita, sviluppi di trama ed evoluzione dei personaggi (sì, Soraya, parlo proprio con te) inesistente e, quando c'è, è incoerente.
É un libro banale, prevedibile, i personaggi sono così fastidiosi e allucinanti che provavo imbarazzo (e rabbia... e frustrazione) leggendo, il worldbuilding è inesistente.

Capisco servisse a preparare per ciò che viene dopo, ma la prima metà è un'accozzaglia di informazioni narrate senza stuzzicare la curiosità del lettore (ergo sono noiose), scene molto simili fra loro, Alyce che si lamenta che tutti la trattano male ma non fa niente per modificare il suo modo di trattare male gli altri (l'avrei presa a sberle più volte sinceramente).
Dalla seconda metà le cose migliorano, però comunque il colpo di scena finale è prevedibile e il romance mi è parso molto forzato.

Dopo anni di hype, mi aspettavo un po' di più da questo libro. Non è un brutto libro, anzi, il concept mi è piaciuto tanto, il modo di ribaltare il ruolo dell'eroe per farlo diventare umano mi affascina sempre. È solo che per la prima metà ho fatto davvero difficoltà a mantenere alto l'interesse e l'attenzione. Ho trovato il romance forzato e le scene molto simili fra loro. Secondo me ne avrebbe giovato se si fosse tagliata o diversificata qualche scena.
La seconda parte, invece, è molto interessante e mi è piaciuta, soprattutto sul finale dove succede davvero di tutto. I personaggi sono tutti riconoscibili ma le loro caratteristiche principali sono ribaltate e questo è il punto forte del libro. Non ho amato particolarmente Amy ma sono sicura che nel secondo libro potrà riservarmi delle sorprese, così come tutta la narrazione.

Ora, se ricordate il finale ILLEGALE di Sangue e Cenere potete immaginarmi con facilità buttarmi a pesce su questo libro e sguazzare nell'enemies to lovers, nel fantasy new adult, nella tensione e nella bava che mi provocano Hawke e Kieran.
Partiamo a bomba: ho amato e adorato questo libro. Rimane un po' di confusione sul worldbuilding (sebbene meno rispetto al primo libro) e penso che la Armentrout avrebbe potuto spiegarlo un po' meglio, ma ho apprezzato il volerlo espandere e costruire, arricchendolo con nuove leggende e antefatti.
Non è un libro che ha grande azione al suo interno, eccetto per la parte finale, perchè si basa soprattutto sull'introspezione e l'evoluzione dei personaggi già conosciuti, oltre alla presentazione di nuovi personaggi. Il POV rimane di Poppy e devo dire che in alcuni punti l'ho trovato ripetitivo. I suoi ragionamenti sono un po' un loop e, sebbene lo capisca, a volte è stato pesante leggerli. La lettura rimane sempre scorrevole ma se la Armentrout avesse tagliato un po' di quei pensieri secondo me ne avremmo giovato! Hawke... beh che dire di Hawke? Lo amo alla follia, anche se nella prima metà del libro l'ho anche un po' odiato e trovato fastidiosamente reticente per il tipo di persona che è. Poi però si è ripreso e da metà in poi del mio hate-to-love era rimasto solo il love-finchè-mi-scoppia-il-cuore.
Regno di carne e fuoco è un libro che prepara tanto all'arrivo del terzo ma non vi preoccupate, non soffre per nulla della sindrome da secondo libro. L'introspezione è tanta ma l'azione, quando c'è, è una bomba.
Mi è piaciuto tantissimo vedere Poppy in azione (e Hawke naturamente); è una badass, a parte qualche scivolone è intelligente e ha sempre la lingua tagliente - oltre alle sue lame. La parte finale del libro, poi, mi ha lasciata letteralmente a bocca aperta. Sappiate che ci troviamo davanti a un finale ILLEGALE. Per la seconda volta! Però che bello è stato! Con la giusta dose di ansia, colpo di scena prevedibile ma anche no, collegamenti col passato e col futuro, il tutto condito da un WTF che risuona chiaro in testa dopo aver finito l'ultima pagina.
