I am happy I finished listening to it throughout the afternoon, because I don't think I'd have any motivation to pick it up again another day. I don't even follow Tinx on any of her platforms, so I don't think I am the best person to review this, not to mention it is a dating advice book and I am in an almost 7-year relationship....more

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this as an audiobook, the pacing was nice and it was not repetitive. Emily Weiss's background was not necessarily unique, but it was compelling nonetheless, and it is always a joy to read about successful women. I did not know about her blog 'Into the Gloss' and loved hearing how she grew it into the company we all now know and love, Glossier.
I do have a few critiques, the first being that this is described as a bombshell exposé, but there was no big scandal discussed in detail, and the brand is still thriving today. Some of the bigger issues that were discussed, such as 'Outta the Gloss', the group of former Glossier employees who came forward to discuss the racism they experienced working for the company, was not discussed enough. If you visit their Instagram you can read their open letter to Glossier, and their response to Glossier's plan of action, both of which are linked in their bio.
Personally, I am not the biggest fan of Glossier products, but I did visit the flagship store in NYC back in 2019. I actually loved it, the vibe was really cool. It was fun for my mom and I to visit and play around in there since it is kind of interactive, and has many photo areas. It kind of made me feel like an Influencer before influencing was a thing. I would add some photos to this review but I don't know how to do that on Goodreads lol. I got the Birthday Cake flavour of their famous Bomb Dotcom lip balm, and it lasted me years!
Overall I think this was a great non-fiction, especially for fans of Glossier, the beauty and makeup industry, and pop culture in general....more

It follows Olive's divorced twin sister, Ami, who takes it upon herself to plan Olive and Ethan's destination wedding in only a week, with the goal of breaking the Torres family wedding curse. Ami, who has a typical type-A personality, is forced to team up with Ethan's best man, Brody, to plan the wedding, and he is the exact opposite of her, with a laid-back positive attitude but has tons of connections on the island to help with the planning.
This was equally fun as it was cheesy. I really enjoyed The Unhoneymooners when I read it 3 summers ago, and where that one felt like a cute rom-com, this one just felt a bit cringe. It was really fun to revisit these characters though, especially Diego, he is my favourite! My main issue was that this is a full cast audiobook, with different actors for each character, but half of the time whoever was narrating the current chapter read all the dialogue and the other half they used the full cast with different voices. It was really inconsistent and wrecked the point of having a full cast. If you were a fan of The Unhoneymooners it's worth getting from Libby or at the library, but don't spend $12 on Amazon to get it. It was quick, fun, cheesy, but ultimately forgettable....more
read via audiobook! i have been searching for a book on this topic for the past 2 years as, unfortunately, this subject pertains to me. this one was sread via audiobook! i have been searching for a book on this topic for the past 2 years as, unfortunately, this subject pertains to me. this one was spot on, validating, informative and undoubtedly one of the best non-fiction/self-help books i’ve ever read.
i am a very self-aware person, have a degree in sociology, am in therapy, and understand that i am an adult child of emotionally immature parents, so naturally going into this i thought it would be filled with everything i've already heard/researched/learned on my own, in school and with my therapist. yet i learned tons, and i am so so happy that i did. some things that set this book apart compared to others of similar nature are that it discussed what may have happened to the parent to make them emotionally immature, the different ways children respond to emotionally immature parents, how to deal with emotionally immature parents after becoming aware of this, different ways to help heal from emotionally immature parents and develop emotionally mature/intelligent habits going forward. usually i find that self-help/psychology books touch on one or two of these kinds of points, but lack in demonstrating how you can implement what you learned in the book in real life. but this one covered it all!
some concepts that i learned about, that i highly recommend those in similar situations to look into are: - the role self vs the true self - internalizers vs externalizers - emotional contagion - consemptatory cheerfulness (!!!) - family systems theory (learned about this in school but i wanted to highlight it as i think it is very valuable) - enmeshment
i can’t recommend this enough to those who are adult children of emotionally immature parents, suffer from extreme anxiety/cptsd due to childhood, have a parent who is a narcissist, or those looking to support a loved one in one of these situations. i am really looking forward to buying a physical copy to reread, annotate, and pass on to others!...more
i just love how much tom felton loves harry potter... because same. i read this via audiobook the past few days at work and it was SO good! i really ei just love how much tom felton loves harry potter... because same. i read this via audiobook the past few days at work and it was SO good! i really enjoyed tom felton's narration, it made it really personal. i also really enjoyed hearing more about his childhood and what it was like to be on the harry potter set! you could really tell how much he appreciated the opportunity to have been in harry potter, and how much the relationships be made with everyone impacted his life positively. it was so cute how he had a chapter talking about emma, rupert and daniel individually, and i don't care what he claims, him and emma watson are in love!!!
one thing i really appreciated was that i actually learned quite a few things. growing up i was the kid who had seen every single extra scene, behind the scenes video, etc, for harry potter, but there were actually things that surprised me in tom's memoir! *minor spoilers* i had no clue he had been to rehab multiple times, or that he had dated jade for so long!!
overall, my only complaint is the god awful cover. otherwise, this is a great read for all wizards, witches, and muggles ...more

noelle gallagher on youtube read and raved about somebody's daughter last (i think?) month for her memoir of the month so i decided to pick it up on audiobook this week! i did not expect to love, let alone connect to it so much, and i really enjoyed that it was ashley c ford narrating the audiobook herself.
i really loved the topics and themes explored in this book through the experiences in ashley's life. two of the main themes - estrangement from her father and the onset of anxiety as a kid were both things i really relate to. her description of the onset of anxiety as a kid hit really close to home for me because how she described it really mirrored my experience with it. she also often talked about her life as a series of events "before" and "after" and about leaving home as an oldest sister with younger siblings you have to leave behind, and her depiction of that was spot on to my feelings around having the same experience.
i wasn't always able to stop and write down quotes as i was listening so i think im going to have to pick up a physical copy of this to annotate! i highly recommend this to memoir lovers <3...more
