I will admit to being a little wary of the Helen, Patroclus, and Achilles trio, mainly because I wondered what the addition of Helen to an already established relationship would do to that relationship, but I was happy with the HEA.
This throuple is hot, hot, hot and each character brings something needed to the relationship. Ambition and military prowess, the ability to navigate the politics of Olympus, and the cunning to reason and plot it all out. These three are sure to become a powerhouse in the books to come and I look forward to seeing more of them.
I notice the next book is Apollo and Cassandra, which is fabulous, but I'm really looking forward to Zeus and Callisto's book. Fingers crossed it's coming soon. ...more
I ain’t even gonna lie, I saw this cover and was IMMEDIATELY intrigued. I hadn’t even read the blurb yet and I was already ready to jump right in. LOL. Okay, so then I finally read the blurb and discovered this was a throuple second chance romance and that pretty much sealed the deal.
What We May Be starts off with a bang (literally), introducing its three main characters: Sean, an FBI agent, Trevor, a college professor, and Charlotte, better known as Charlie, who is a police officer. Trevor and Charlie grew up together and were best friends until Sean entered the picture in college and brought all three of them together into a relationship. When the book opens Sean has come back to town to attend Charlie’s brother and father’s funeral, and it’s the first time he’s seen his lovers since he abandoned them ten years ago… for reasons. So as you can imagine, there is A LOT of pent-up frustration, anger, and lust. ...more
I’ve always enjoyed Samantha Kane historical menage romances. She has a typical two best friends who need a woman to complete them thing going on, sometimes the best friends are also lovers, sometimes they want to be lovers and just don’t know it yet. I think I’ve read every single book in that series, but I hadn’t read any contemporaries of her’s, so when this book came up for review I decided I needed to dive in and give it a try.
Cass Zielinski and Beau Perez are best friends and attached at the hip on and off the field. Captain of newest expansion team, the Rebels, Cass is a leader who has a short fuse and wants to be in control all the time. Beau is a veteran in the league, but when drugs and alcohol brought him down and made him an outcast in the NFL it was Cass who picked up the pieces. Where Cass goes so does Beau, and vice versa. Everyone knows it. They even have a kinky menage sex tape to prove it. The rest of the team is made up misfits, damaged souls and players on their last chance. The Birmingham Rebels is the end of the line for everyone.
Marian Treadwell is the newest assistant coach and bound and determined to prove herself in a sport she loves. But she has a past and more than a few secrets and fears she’s been carrying around for years. Cass and Beau are intrigued by her, and she them, but she knows she can’t get involved with a player. Especially not two.
For most of Broken Play I was convinced this was the usual menage fare. Lots and lots of hot sex scenes, and some emotional growth as Cass and Beau realize they are in love with each other and want each other sexually and Marian decides she wants to be with them both. I had a few issues…. I would have liked more page time dealing with the interesting dynamic of a woman coaching football, and felt like she wasn’t acting very professional when she was having sexual encounters with them in her office or getting drunk and crawling all over them in a public place surrounded by the rest of the team. But I was enjoying this pretty sexy read that’s really not too deep, in spite of what Marian’s issues were. Then there’s a thing at the end and I was all “WHAT IS HAPPENING?”
I'm going to spoiler tag the next bit.
(view spoiler)[The end is one huge football player orgy. Marian and her men and three other players all have a huge sexfest in order to help Marian and another player get over their fear of the trauma that happened in Marian’s past. This is going to sound odd, but I kind of wish I had some scratch paper to figure out where all the penises and hands and lips where going and who was bending who over. It’s a fun scene for readers who enjoy lots and lots of dirty. I just was not expecting it. Like at all. (hide spoiler)]
So in the end, I did enjoy Broken Play and will be reading Tyler’s book, which is up next, but am hoping to see more plot developement and hopefully will have the chance get to know the rest of the team a little better. Final Grade- C
