This was outdated and didn't age well. Felt like reading corporate Twilight. Maybe if I'd have read it in say 2014 ? The characters also felt like they should have been older? I'm like girl we're the same age? :?

I like the two main characters and their relationship together. RJ was so attentive to Lainey's needs and seemed like such a sweet and caring guy. I also really enjoyed the character progression of Lainey and how she was slowly battling her issues and how to stood up for herself.
The pacing was a little weird in that half the book was before, set in Alaska, and the other half was after, one year later, set in Chicago. I did like that we got their first and second chance at a relationship but it was a little hard to believe it had been a year because it jumped straight from one time to the next. This pacing issue is kind of what ruined my enjoyment a little. I liked how it was going and then it was just completely changed up.
I would have liked if this book was a little longer and there was a bit more groveling involved, (although I think the reason as to why Lainey had a hard time moving forward with RJ was a little ridiculous).
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and will definitely continue on with the series. Excited for Steve's book....more

This book, I'm not going to lie, kind of left a bad taste in my mouth for most of it. I was a bit at war with myself about this relationship dynamic. On one hand, I was like "damn Lily's finally getting to be with her long time crush" but on the other hand I was a bit weirded out about their relationship. The author tried so hard to convince us that Romero wasn't into Lily all this time but at the same time, I don't know, I just felt uncomfortable. I think it was a bad choice to begin the book when Lily was so young. I can understand why this was done but it just made it weird that Romero knew Lily as a kid and then wanted to be with her.
What I really love about these books is that we get so much of the other characters that we've met in previous books. I liked seeing them growing and still kind of being main characters. Really upsetting though to see Fabi grow and get more involved with the mafia.
(view spoiler)[ The whole thing with the dad wanted to marry maria and then for her to marry Maria's dad like that's just screwed up. They'd be step mothers to each other no? (hide spoiler)]
These books are so quick and easy to read and that's probably what I love most about them.
I did think the series was getting gradually better but I feel like in some aspects that's correct, it still kind of slumped for me. Will definitely still continue however. (view spoiler)[ I'm getting kind of sick of the fact that once the characters have sex the book becomes sex driven and also the fact that the books always conclude with sex. (hide spoiler)]...more
I enjoyed this one. I definitely think it's an improvement from the first book.
At first, when I started reading, I was like "why is this book two, I I enjoyed this one. I definitely think it's an improvement from the first book.
At first, when I started reading, I was like "why is this book two, I wanted to read Gianna and Matteo's book" and I still don't really think this was a necessary addition when there's a lot of focus on the Scuderi family, but I'm still glad I read it.
I liked seeing Dante and Valentina's relationship develop and I'm so glad that this book had a lot more plot to it than the first. We got to see her relationship with Bibiana and that plot line and also her getting a job. I really liked that Dante wanted her to work and all that.
I really wished (and this is with all the books) that the author just went a little further with developing the characters and their relationships in these books.
At some points I was fighting with myself about their relationship. I so badly wanted Val to be happy but at the same time Dante just seemed so heartbroken over Carla and like he couldn't move on. And lowkey I didn't want him to move on. (I was at first a lot more interested in reading Dante and Carla's story than Valentina's.)
I liked reading about these two anyway. (view spoiler)[ I was really glad Val ratted on Antonio because it's what she needed to do.
I also wish we got to see Dante and Val's relationship after they had their kid.
As well as that, I wish we got to see Dante actually falling in love with Val. It was hmm maybe it's happening... 'this kids not mine' okay never mind 'okay fine it's my kid, we're a family now'. I don't even know if that makes sense. It was like we were just told her cared for her now but we didn't actually see it. (hide spoiler)]...more

It was so short that I don't think we got enough time to really get invested with the characters, nor did they really have enough time to fall in love either. It felt a little formulaic and rushed. A hell of a lot of problems with this book but that's all to do with that this book is a mafia book so I can't knock it for any of that. What I3.5/5.
A hell of a lot of problems with this book but that's all to do with that this book is a mafia book so I can't knock it for any of that. What I am docking points for is the fact that about halfway I think it kind of lost substance and was just a whole bunch of (almost) sex scenes. Would have really loved to see the characters and their relationship develop a little more (and also see somewhat of a functioning life outside the apartment). I am very much invested in their world and looking forward to reading the other characters' stories, especially Gianna and Lily's....more
