I like the two main characters and their relationship together. RJ was so attentive to Lainey's needs and seemed like such a sweet and caring guy. I also really enjoyed the character progression of Lainey and how she was slowly battling her issues and how to stood up for herself.
The pacing was a little weird in that half the book was before, set in Alaska, and the other half was after, one year later, set in Chicago. I did like that we got their first and second chance at a relationship but it was a little hard to believe it had been a year because it jumped straight from one time to the next. This pacing issue is kind of what ruined my enjoyment a little. I liked how it was going and then it was just completely changed up.
I would have liked if this book was a little longer and there was a bit more groveling involved, (although I think the reason as to why Lainey had a hard time moving forward with RJ was a little ridiculous).
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and will definitely continue on with the series. Excited for Steve's book....more
I enjoyed this one. I definitely think it's an improvement from the first book.
At first, when I started reading, I was like "why is this book two, I I enjoyed this one. I definitely think it's an improvement from the first book.
At first, when I started reading, I was like "why is this book two, I wanted to read Gianna and Matteo's book" and I still don't really think this was a necessary addition when there's a lot of focus on the Scuderi family, but I'm still glad I read it.
I liked seeing Dante and Valentina's relationship develop and I'm so glad that this book had a lot more plot to it than the first. We got to see her relationship with Bibiana and that plot line and also her getting a job. I really liked that Dante wanted her to work and all that.
I really wished (and this is with all the books) that the author just went a little further with developing the characters and their relationships in these books.
At some points I was fighting with myself about their relationship. I so badly wanted Val to be happy but at the same time Dante just seemed so heartbroken over Carla and like he couldn't move on. And lowkey I didn't want him to move on. (I was at first a lot more interested in reading Dante and Carla's story than Valentina's.)
I liked reading about these two anyway. (view spoiler)[ I was really glad Val ratted on Antonio because it's what she needed to do.
I also wish we got to see Dante and Val's relationship after they had their kid.
As well as that, I wish we got to see Dante actually falling in love with Val. It was hmm maybe it's happening... 'this kids not mine' okay never mind 'okay fine it's my kid, we're a family now'. I don't even know if that makes sense. It was like we were just told her cared for her now but we didn't actually see it. (hide spoiler)]...more
A hell of a lot of problems with this book but that's all to do with that this book is a mafia book so I can't knock it for any of that. What I3.5/5.
A hell of a lot of problems with this book but that's all to do with that this book is a mafia book so I can't knock it for any of that. What I am docking points for is the fact that about halfway I think it kind of lost substance and was just a whole bunch of (almost) sex scenes. Would have really loved to see the characters and their relationship develop a little more (and also see somewhat of a functioning life outside the apartment). I am very much invested in their world and looking forward to reading the other characters' stories, especially Gianna and Lily's....more
3.5/5. Ending was a little too rushed I feel. Overall enjoyed the read but wish we'd just gotten something more. Little disappointed as I could have s3.5/5. Ending was a little too rushed I feel. Overall enjoyed the read but wish we'd just gotten something more. Little disappointed as I could have seen this being a favourite up until I realised I was over 90% through and we weren't where I wanted to be. Not mad I read it though.
Also, the whole Irish hero thing- not my favourite. He wasn't as stereotypically Irish as I usually find in books and movies but it was very easy as an Irish person to know this author isn't Irish and has probably never been to Ireland. A quick example of this: our hero was Dublin raised, which was mentioned many times, but it was also mentioned that he grew up on a farm. While I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's highly unlikely that he grew up on a farm in Dublin as Dublin is all city and suburbs. It's probably the only county that doesn't have a countryside part to it. It wasn't the worst thing ever but it's just something that very easily irks me. They've always gotta be Irish.
Otherwise, the book disappointingly fell a little flat as we didn't get to dive into the characters as much as I usually like and as mentioned before, the ending was quite rushed. We needed a lot more for a believable ending, in my opinion....more

This book was so addictive. It was like a boarding school twilight mixed with a little vampire diaries throughout the second half. It was so hilariously cringy that I couldn't stop reading. The relationship was so insta love-y also. (view spoiler)[ Okay, but the blood drinking? When things were getting heated, I thought they'd be doing normal h*rny couple things but drinking blood? Dude that was... uncomfortable and a lil weird? (hide spoiler)]
SO much of this book didn't make sense- although that was supposed to be the mystery- and it still wasn't really cleared up at the end. (view spoiler)[ I have so many questions: why did Lia kill her parents? How exactly did the dad getting his powers taken away go down? Her uncle really couldn't find any time to tell her that she was the only human in the whole school? Her cousin couldn't tell her? Did she just forget about being sad that her parents died because it was day two and she was in love? How did she not catch on with all the vampire jokes? giving her twilight was hilarious! What the hell was that ending? Why was she so special? So, so, so many more questions... (hide spoiler)] I guess it was setting it up for the continuation?
After I finished this book I didn't know whether I immediately wanted to start the next book or forget this series altogether. Still have not decided.
I had a lot of issues with this book, mainly in the beginning, but they were mostly subjective. I just didn't like the way some things were desc3.5/5.

I did enjoy the romance between Keaton and Luke, and Keaton coming to terms with his sexuality, although it was a little conveniently easy? Again, subjective. I know, speaking from my own personal experience, it takes a lot more than "okay, so now I'm attracted to the opposite sex, it seems".
I related to Luke a good bit, especially with the family issues he was dealing with, and his inability to so easily trust Keaton and his motives or feelings towards him.
I feel like both Luke and Keaton had a lot of potential for growth, and in the end, Keaton grew a lot more than Luke, standing up to his dad etc. I still feel Luke did have some growth, mainly in relation to his brother and his mother, but I feel like his own personal growth, especially with coming to terms with his feelings for Keaton, could have been explored more.
Overall, I'm not mad I read it. It was a cute, but also spicy, quick M/M romance, and I'd considering reading more from this author duo....more
