It was slow to start in the first book, but grew and grew as the series went on. Awesome action and an epic finish to the arc. I guess my only nit with this and the prequel Spell Weaver series is no HEA for the pairs, but I guess that may come in the next series. At least I hope there is still will be a next series for Piper, Ash, Lyre and Clio, even as much as I like the author's two series in the Guild Codex world...more

I would have preferred just a single narrator or that the female reader did all the female parts and the male reader did Al the male parts. I just never works as well for me to have the two readers doing the different POVs because the shared characters just don't feel as consistent to me. This book is released in audio only for now....more

I did a lot of skimming even though I love dragon shifters and ancient Russian dragon shifters is a definite yum. It might have been the flow of the story or just that I had too many issues with parts for this to really work me the way it should have.
The ancient book that brings the dragon shifting Gregori and the mythology/medievalist professor together is lame as a plot device, a dragon should be better at hiding and keeping valuables safe. The biggest problem I had with this though is the fearful about everything virginal leading lady - she brushes kidnapping and the brother's statement that they can never let her leave away to easily under power of her hormones and just 'knowing' Grigori is honorable and that she can trust him. Really, the mate bond is the only that nabs her a dragon. Even the secret that makes her special just didn't make up for her lack.
So even though the framework with ancient dragon brothers finding their mates is just up my alley, this was just ok...more
Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon was my favorite of the Sparks' Embraced series so far because ... Dragons!! I like these light fantasy romancesEight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon was my favorite of the Sparks' Embraced series so far because ... Dragons!! I like these light fantasy romances - even though I now skip over the info dump explanation of the magically talented Embraced and their world which leads off each book- where each of five sisters for the Heart raised as orphans discover love and their own history. This time around the elvish Gwenore finds her match in Silas, General to the northern people who live in the land of the dragons, after she ends up hitching a dragon ride when her young 'niece' is kidnapped by another dragon. Silas is captured by her bravery and her beauty and Gwenore is won over by his attention and good opinion of her.
The romance between them is fun, but I did have issues with the wrap up of the background plot and the quick cut to the HEA - the fallout from the 'curse' on the royal family and the obstacle of Gwen's elvish heritage are swept under the rug when both things would have lasting repercussions for Gwen in her new homeland. But then again this is light romance so the lack of follow through is not that unexpected.
I look forward to the next sister's story.

The reality part of the story touches on an issue in the news - coal mining done by miners tunneling through mountains giving way to the much more efficient method of blowing off the top of the mountain to get at the coal (with enormous impact to the surrounding environment and no guarantees that the miners will be needed anymore). I am not a terribly political person, and I feel sorry for the people losing their jobs and for the environment.
The story part of this was meandering and not terribly cheery, but the ending was moderately hopeful....more
