It was like 'you have to become a sub to save the Earth but we're also going to end all sexual deviancy while trying to blow up this other planet' and also 'i have a lot of issues that need to be sorted out by the cunning use of bondage' which gets really old after a while like just give me some good ole bondage sexy times without the angst during the scenes. First, the blurbs about the cases were inconsistent. Some actually explained the cases, while others were sort of teasing. Like they either expected me to know about the case or they wanted me to read about it in the following essay. Secondly, the essays. The essays were very inconsistent which was very frustrating. Some of them were more thorough exclamations on the cases which I preferred, and some of them were sort of like personal stories that vaguely related to the case. Thirdly, there was only one dissenting view in this whole book, which was weird. I get that the ACLU wouldn’t want to have a whole bunch of people complaining about them in a book that they’re writing, but then having only one dissenting view in the whole book was very strange.
The most frustrating part, I think was how proud they were of defending literal Nazis and their right to be a piece of shit and talk about how much they hate Jews like maybe we shouldn’t be defending Nazis. Maybe that should be illegal....more

Given there’s very few Davidians who survived, I suppose that makes sense. He brushes aside any idea that the ATF/FBI started the fire, although it seems like it may have been their fault regardless given the gas and incendiary rounds they fired into the structure.
It’s wild that a judge can just completely ignore what a jury decides and say you’re guilty anyways. What’s the point of a jury anyways?
This wasn’t very kind to ATF/FBI but it probably wasn’t as harsh as it could be.
The final chapter on the “legacy of rage” doesn’t cover very much. It tries to cover 30 years of history in what appears to be approximately 30 pages (15 minutes of audiobook). It really should have been a bigger part of the book....more

Clearly this author is an important man as he has been involved in many major events including a few negotiations, but I didn’t really need the random anecdotes about his kids or his wife or whatever. They didn’t add anything, since they weren’t consistently throughout the book.
What was most… interesting was how critical he was of the Palestinian leadership throughout. It seemed like he felt he had to be in order to not have people dismiss the book.
Everything was well-researched and well-written, but it was pretty dry, I did zone out while listening sometimes. The conclusion where he says that there basically has to be a two state solution was.. frustrating to say the least but since I’m a white American who barely knows anything about this I don’t really get a say....more

Gretchen and Teddy’s sections were incredibly boring and I was only kind of interested in Jane’s. Towards the end I did start reading all of it, probably the last 50 pages or so, but honestly not super into it.
