This brief existential story has crawled its way into every nook and cranny of my brain. I often contemplate this question anyway so seeing it play out was truly horrific. Even worse is being told your stay in hell is finite but then you do the math… omg, I will likely never forget this book....more

Maybe it was a giant metaphor, maybe I missed the point, but this book is long and it felt long, and several times I didn’t want to finish. I did finish though and it’s not all crazytown. I mean it is but the storyline progresses despite the repetitive scenes. Read it and see what you think!...more

As Wounds: Six Stories From The Border Of Hell by Nathan Ballingrud Someone recommended this book so I picked it up at the library for my October tbr. As I was reading, one story felt way too familiar: The Visible Filth. Turns out, I had watched the film adaptation on Hulu a while back and I ended up watching it again after reading. Trust me when I say the movie follows the novella to a T! I was so relieved to realize I had indeed experienced this story before and I wasn’t just having a very uncomfortable case of déjà vu.
The Visible Filth was by far my favorite of the bunch in this collection, but maybe it was all my excitement about the book to screen process. The remaining stories are very good too, overall an excellent and highly disturbing collection of horror.

This is a translated workA Luminous Republic was an unexpected book for me. I went in with minimal information and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This is a translated work of literary horror written by a young Spanish writer living in Argentina, thus the story is set in the same location. I loved the POV here; there is complete chaos going on but our narrator appears quite objective to it all, giving the reader a rather calm detail of events almost in a journalistic fashion. I’m probably making this book sound boring but it is anything but. It’s excellent....more

Oh man, if you think dolls are creepy, just wait until you read this little book of puppet horror. For all of you who grew up watching Sesame Street, the nostalgia is strong within these pages. There is so much going on here and I enjoyed it all. ...more

This little short story was released a week and a half before Halloween and the timing was PERFECT! Lovers of the dark and disturbing, don't let Jennifer Weiner's name turn you off. This was quite the pleasant surprise. It goes to some pretty dark places but these scenes are written in a fade-to-black style so more tender readers will still get a good nights sleep. Who knew Jennifer Weiner had it in her?? It took me less than an hour to read this short horror story via ebook and I'm no speed reader. Highly recommend for spooky season!...more
