By far the best "woke up married to a stranger in Vegas whom I fall in love with and live HEA" story.
The atypical, memorable, and wonderful MCs are the best thing in this story. And there is also quirky funness, great dialogue, drama that isn't over the top, a somewhat slow-burn plot, and great details during the characterization.
I love this series. Definitely the best of its kind!

Too short, too choppy going from one brief snapshot to the next, and the characters didn't act in ways consistent with what they experienced. And, sinToo short, too choppy going from one brief snapshot to the next, and the characters didn't act in ways consistent with what they experienced. And, since I wasn't attached to the MCs at all, I couldn't overlook any of that. Very good premise, but would need to be stretched out a lot, made more logical, and would need better characterization for me to like it.
Oh, and this isn't dub-con, it's non-con all the way in those scenes. (Which has no effect on my rating, since I love good non-con. Just pointing it out, since it's tagged as dub-con.)...more
First off, thanks again to Jenna, whose trick allowed me to buy this whole series discounted a few years back. I so, so appreciate you!

Oh shit, hardcore and very good and messed up! I care so much for Dougie and Mat, and am pulling for them so hard to retain who they are throughout Nicolai's training. And they must end up staying together. Or else.
And mysterious Nicolai over there, I am loving him already, from just the glimpses we get. I so want to see him cherish Dougie, and make Dougie read poetry to him while laying over his lap...that is one of my biggest kinks--a Master or Dom cherishing a pliant slave or sub. While in here, it is definitely non-con to the max, I'm still fully into this. Most definitely!
My only issue with this story is that it added in a lot of torture porn type rapes, when they would be counterintuitive to selling at a higher price, at least for Dougie, who is an anal virgin. That would drive the price way up. Yet, the procuring team rapes and bloodies him repeatedly. It doesn't add up (literally).
I love the characters--the aforementioned three, at least--and love that there was good grammar in here.
Can't wait to continue on. This is definitely what I was in the mood for!...more
My favorite of the series; a holy hell lot of issues from abuse, lots of healing, and protectiveness. Sweetness Late review, but from what I remember:

Honestly, this installment made me so happy with how things got twisted and evil.
And, seriously... Abe and (view spoiler)[Mason are the best. Twenty years strong and no stopping now! (hide spoiler)]

Original review:
Holy fuck. I don't even know how to rate this because I have never read something this depraved. This broke into a lot of new territory for me. This was revolting and shocking and incredibly fucked up. It was so different from anything I've previously read, and I didn't exactly like it, but I appreciated the experience of reading it, and now won't fear reading torture/cannibalism stories if they look like a good story.
Lasting effects: I think I've lost my appetite for a good long while and have a lot of horrible images running through my head....more

This book was monumental. It, minus the formatting and editing issues, is one of the best books I have read. It is intense, filled with strong emotions from hurt, hate, crippling fear, unrequited love, true love, tragedy, to genuine, truly developed characters who made me root for Conrad, too, not just Malachi and Harper.
This is truly an amazing, soul-touching book. Outside of the editing, my only criticism is how quickly Harper's panic was dropped after he met Malachi. That is very questionable...but that barely factors in when weighed against everything I felt during this book.
The humor (oh my god, Malachi, I need you in my life!), the sheer fun, love, and need that came alive in every word--it was a thing of pure beauty.
Also, this will make me more easily not make snap judgements about others.
