The author grabbed my attention immediately and held it throughout the story. John Giordano is a teacher who is involved with his students. He is laid off from his teaching job along with many other teachers as the school district is struggling with budget cutbacks. One of his students is murdered so he follows up on the rest of this students and is dismayed with how many have dropped out of school and are using and pushing drugs. Charlie Watts is a private detective and Steve Monelli is a mafia narcotic importer. These three men become the key players in a sad tale.
The book is well written. The author has a crisp and modern writing style. There are many ongoing plots that eventually come together in an interesting manner. The story is sad about the decay of a failing city. The action is nonstop and the pace is fast. The ending does leave the reader feeling uplifted.
I read this on my kindle app for my iPad. The book is 250 pages and makes for a fast read.

I was introduced to the Number One Ladies Detective Agency books by a friend in England. She sent me the first three volumes of the books. I was hooked from the first book. My friend died a few years ago, but every time I read an Alexander McCall Smith book, I think of her. I have noticed either people love Smith’s books or hate them. There seems to be no middle ground. I find the musings of the characters interesting. The manners and honesty of the characters seem to represent times past. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and can’t wait for the next book.

Robb has managed to keep this series fresh and has not repeated a single book. It is amazing. She is an excellent writer who has the most interesting characters. Just as I begin to think what has happened to so and so they pop up in the next book. The pace is fast and action packed. The ending is absolutely spellbinding.

But in my opinion the story is primarily a story of a man’s struggle with his religious beliefs. The story moves right along and is definitely a thriller. The characters are interesting and believable. It appears that Cosby has mastered the art form of a thriller. This is the first time I have read a book written by Cosby. It certainly won’t be my last.

I keep thinking after 57 books I should move on, but the characters have become like friends and each has such individual uniqueness. They always are delightful. My only complaint about the story is I felt I was getting impatient as the hunt went on and on. But that could just have been the mood I was in.

I have totally burned out on books about sociopathic serial killers. But I must say Grisham handled this differently than other books on the subject. In this story we know who the killer is and he is a Judge. The book is about a woman who has investigated the Judge for twenty years and is trying to convince the protagonist, Lacy Stoltz, to bring him to justice. The real action of the book takes place near the end. The story is not as good as his earlier books, but Grisham is still a master storyteller.

During that time, I discovered Jacqueline Winspear’s series of Maisie Dobbs. The series was set during WWI. This book is number sixteen and much has evolved. It is now the beginning of World War Two.
I have enjoyed watching the progress of Maisie over the years. In this book Winspear provides excellent descriptions of the bombings of London and the effects on the people. Maisie is working part time for the government and continuing her work at her detective agency. Winspear is a master storyteller. I highly recommend this series.

The book is well written. It is fast paced and the plot is interesting. What I miss are all the fascinating characters. I know she does not put all of the characters in every story but she usually rotates them. In the last few books, the majority of the interesting characters have been missing. To me, it is these unusual and exciting characters that make the book. I do realize this story is primarily about Roarke’s childhood. The book is a good –get- away-from- it- all. Susan Ericksen’s narration really makes the story move.

It is amazing how many writers and poets live in this area. I use to think that authors and artist primarily lived in the Monterey-Carmel area, but that is no longer true. It is amazing how many writers live in the area from beginners to very famous authors and poets. There is about a dozen or so that primarily write mystery stories. Many of the set in the story locally as does this book.
The book is well written and mainly stays focused on the crime. I enjoyed the descriptions of the local area. The protagonist is a local native Italian girl who obtained a law degree but went back to work in the family’s local Italian restaurant after her mother’s death. Her aunt is murdered and she inherits her aunt’s restaurant and sets off to solve the murder of her aunt. The story is an easy read.

The book is well written and is realistic. The characters are interesting. I chose the book because the story takes place in Northern California’s Humboldt County. The book is well written. I have read one of the Andy Carpenter’s books so I had an idea what this book would be like.
