I've read & reread the seven books. I love them. I really, really love them. But ... I didn't want another book, and if I'm completely honest, I didn't even like the Epilogue in the final book. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read this, and I'm not sure I'm glad I did.
This was ... ok. I guess. I didn't expect a novel. I read plays, so this is nothing new to me, but the Harry Potter universe just doesn't seem to work as well in play format. So much of what I love about Harry Potter is the "in between", not the dialogue, and that was (naturally) missing in this format. There was some of the humour I loved from the books, but this read like fairly average fan-fiction, and was missing so much of the charm & wit that I associate with HP.
It felt disjointed, flighty, and I feel like it was hugely anti-climactic.
I liked it well enough, but I think it's really only because of my love of the series. While it was vaguely pleasant to revisit the characters, I don't think it was a necessary addition to the story and I really hope that the story ends here. ...more

Susan Sontag was clearly a brilliant woman, but man did she suck at conveying her ideas & information in a way that's even remotely accessible or palatable to normal human beings. I think it's a great book. It's realistic, and accessible - not a dry, difficult non-fiction book at all. There are some truly great insights in the book, as well as a number of different exercises to help you become more self-aware, and to help create new, more beneficial neural pathways. I'll certainly be keeping this book on hand & starting to do some of the suggested exercises....more

I'm not usually a fan of graphic novels, but this one works, and I think this style (mostly pictures & minimal words) really works well for kids that don't read (or that are learning to read). For my creative little lady, it's brilliant, as she can put her own words to it.
The story is sweet, and the illustration style is lovely. My daughter is thrilled at the idea of being able to read this herself whenever she likes (without me having to read it to her), as this is the first "chapter book" that she can do that with.
I'm still not a graphic novel convert, and I doubt I ever will be, but this one is great....more

It's cute, and the world is certainly beautifully crafted (literally) but I still just don't love it.
I suppose this is the kind of book where it is as good as you make it, given that you have to craft the words to the story yourself. But, given that most of our picture books are read at bedtime, when my creativity & patience are at an absolute minimum, this book always falls flat for me. To be completely honest, it becomes a chore to read & I dread my daughter choosing it at night....more
