And to be fair, the kid was as cute in the manga as on the cover. The tropes, though.... I cannot believe I forgot about the “Western people kiss all the time” thing.
The translation wasn’t bad, although the graphics for translations of tickets and such certainly hasn’t gotten any better. I can see why you would translate 恋人 with “lover” even in German because no one in their right mind would say “Liebhaber”, but then again, do people say “lover”? Whatever.
I will say that I got pretty much what I expected from this (including a bunch of scenes that had me roll my eyes) but it has re-affirmed my policy of sticking to the mangaka I know and love. I mean, I absolutely get that one-shot BL is the safest to sell but in most hands this leads to stories that have the same plot and the same tropes and that feel kind of bland... I did like how both seme and uke were equally sexually assertive, though. And the kid was really cute. ...more

The story flows along just like in the original, and the art is so pretty. The translation is only okayish, though. It's a matter of... translation philosophy, maybe, but often it feels too literal for me, and just sounds kind of unnatural. I definitely notice that more when I have read the original, though. I'm also not sure about the romanization of some of the names, but then again I totally suck at that sort of thing...
Anyway, great manga, great story, and now I'm going to dive straight into the second novel although the first one totally gave me nightmares......more

I think I liked it even better because I read it right after "Mein geliebter Geliebter", but even that aside it's a good manga. If you have read stories with a similar setting the ending isn't much of a surprise, but I liked the way the story was told and the overall mood. And despite the fantasy element, the manga felt more rooted in reality than "Mein geliebter Geliebter". For what it's worth, I really appreciate Tokyopop's effort when it comes to BL. Egmont is catching up while Carlsen quite honestly doesn't even pretend to try anymore, but Tokyopop really are doing a lot for the genre and manga as such....more

The art is nice, but that is just about the only redeeming quality - superficial, not very well planned and just so removed from reality it's not funny anymore. I agree with Sherry that the initial confession happened a bit too fast but considering it was initially supposed to be a short story that probably can't be helped. I liked the way they tried to navigate their relationship afterwards, and I liked that it didn't really matter who the seme or the uke was. I would've preferred if Mio wasn't "normally into girls", but at least Shun was gay and there was an actual lesbian couple.
I liked the art - it fit the story, but I realized lately I've grown a bit tired of this cute and sweet style. That's a matter of personal taste though.
I was really happy when it was announced that Tokyopop had licensed this. There are (inmho) better manga published by the same magazine, but it manages to combine sweetness and seriousness in a way that's not that often to be found in the BL that's currently being published in Germany. Understandably publishers mostly focus on safe bets and big names, so I'm happy about this release....more

(Never mind that in this case this reads more like these two are Really Good Friends, considering they don't even kiss - why this manga is rated 15+ is a complete mystery to me). This is a love story between women marketed at straight women, I think? I don't think it's marketed at men, and it can't be targeting lesbians, considering it has as much to do with actual lesbian experiences as your usual BL has with actual gay experiences. What I liked that unlike in a lot of shojo het romance, all women are portrayed as friends - there is none of the hostile behaviour that always ticks me of in most het love stories. In the end, it's a sweet story but kinda pointless, for me. And it's so asexual it could piss me off if I thought about it too much so I won't. ...more
