I would have probably given this book 4 stars if it hadn't been so predictable. I knew from almost the beginning who the "bad guy" was and that pretty much ruined it for me. It was well written and the characters will well developed. The plot was on the week side -- and I didn't feel much of the suspense or mystery that I expected.
Still a good read and I will continue on with the next book in the series. ...more

I have yet to be disappointed in any novel I have read by Ms. Novak regardless of the genre.
I am already hooked on this series (Whiskey Creek Trilogy) and I have only read the prequel and this book, When Lightning Strikes, the first book in the trilogy. Such sweet and endearing romance... the kind that makes you feel all warm and happy inside.
As with most contemporary romances there are always obstacles to overcome to get the HEA ending. When Lightning Strikes has a good balance between obstacles and how believable they would be in real life. I found the romance to be believable and was sucked right into the story. The characters will well developed and the plot flowed smoothly.
If you are into contemporary romances -- then you definitely want to check out this series. I am really looking forward to reading the next installment. So far they have been fun and easy reads -- just the type of books to take your mind into a different place and give you a chance to escape, if only for a little while. ...more

Although I have read books by Brenda Novak, this is the first one that is a Romance instead of a Suspense/Thriller. I have REALLY enjoyed all of the books that I have read by her and was pleasantly surprised that she does romance as well as she does suspense. Ms. Novak is quickly becoming a "must read" author for me.
When We Touch is the prequel in the Whiskey Creek Trilogy and it takes place in Whiskey Creek, a small little town where everyone knows everyone else, and of course the gossip is horrendous. The heroine was a bit mousy for my tastes. It wasn't until the very end of the book that she actually stood up for herself and did what was best for her. The romance was hot and steamy! Couldn't get enough!
I am looking forward to reading the next installment in this series. The small town atmosphere makes the books that much more interesting and entertaining. ...more
