Thank you!!!!
Last year, I was going through a reading slump when I started Wrecking Ball, the first book in the Hard to Love series (P.S.: the series title is wrong, because these books are super easy to love). The same thing was happening when I decided to start Sledgehammer. The result was the same: I’m now cured.
I was going to wait to start this book until next week because I have other ARCs that needed my immediate attention due to their release dates, but all the books I’ve read for the past few days have failed to WOW me. Some I liked more, others less, but nothing stuck with me, even though other people have loved them.
That’s the thing about this reading business: subjectivity rules. Sometimes I have a hard time explaining why a story didn’t work for me. All the elements were there, but nothing did it for me. Other times, a simple story has this extra sparkle and I’m done for. Sledgehammer fits in this last category.
If you haven’t figured it out by now I am absolutely, irrevocably in love with this book.

To be completely honest, I went into this knowing I’d probably enjoy the heck out of it. The blurb is great. The first book was amazing. P. Dangelico has a whole Mariana Zapata vibe with her slow burn romances. So, yeah, it was a recipe for success. But the thing is, I didn’t just like it. I inhaled, breathed, lived and died with it. It gave me all the FEELS, to the point I had to take a break because I was hyperventilating. And I’ll tell you this. Although I loved, loved, looovveeedddd Amber, the guilty party here is Ethan Vaughn.
Ethan Freaking Vaughn.

Book boyfriend Ethan Vaughn was amazing. A-mazing. Everything I needed and a little more. The angst was alive and real and making my chest burn because this dude, the things this dude did, the way he spoke, the dirty talk, the proclamation of love…. Every-freaking-thing was perfection. I don’t care if you disagree. I don’t. He was it for me.
(view spoiler)[When he went all “I’m going to make it impossible for you to leave me” (in a not creepy way, I have to add, because out of context this might sound creepy), I swear my heart did a funny thing. I’m not joking. It just got to me in a way that it’s hard to explain.
Then, he went all “I wanted a little more time with you” because he needed “To show you how much I love you”, I nearly had a heart attack because nothing gets to me more than a man so desperately in love, and Ethan was desperately in love. It even made him stupid—because what he did was stupid. A little romantic, too. Stupidly romantic. Amber was totally right to be pissed, even though it broke my heart to see how devastated he was.
Finally, Ethan killed me and buried me with his love speech:
“I love you,” he says, his voice calm and steady while his eyes burn brightly with longing, my face still in his reverent hold. “And…” He exhale harshly. “And not the flowers and dinner on Valentine’s kind of love. It’s not soft or sweet. The way I love you is… is—“ His face twists in frustration. “It’s fucking painful. When you’re not near me I feel like Popovitch is sitting on my chest and I can’t breathe.” (hide spoiler)]
So, yeah. I’m dead. This guy killed me.
I don’t even care that the whole “I’ll post her bail and let her live with me” thing sounded a little weird. Does that even happen in real life? I’m not sure, but who cares? Because that landed them exactly where I needed them to be. Together. Living under the same roof. Getting to know each other, and OMG the slow burn. The “we don’t like each other” to the “we’re friends” to the “we can’t get enough of each other” gave me life. Slow burn is my thing. The more I read authors like P. Dangelico and Mariana Zapata, the more I’m convinced I want, need and will give all my money for hot, real and well-done slow burn.
Now, Amber… This chick was awesome. I knew I’d love her when I highlighted the first paragraph and wrote: “YES!!! VOIIIICEEE!” I know the concept of voice is a little hard to grasp (at least I have a hard time explaining it), but when it’s there, you just can’t miss it. It sort of hits you in the face and gives you pause. It happened here. I read one paragraph and I knew I’d love Amber because her voice got me. She was funny AF, loyal and smart. She was also surprisingly down to Earth considering everything that she had gone through. I couldn’t have asked for a better narrator for this story.
I don’t even know what to say about the romance without getting a little spoiler-y. I’ll just say that it developed exactly the way I’d hoped it would. There were tons of bantering, tons of heat, and it went through the three stages that will make a romance extra special for me: a little bit of animosity >> friendship >> love. And I also got a little The Hating Game by Sally Thorne vibe when it came to Ethan, so it was real perfection.
Aside from Ethan, Amber and their romance, I also loved the whole NFL vibe (I’m a fan) and all the side characters. I loved seeing Cam and Calvin living their happy ever after, getting a little bit more of Justin and meeting Amber’s little sis. I even teared up with a minor side character: the driver Ethan hired who’d been out of work for two years. Dude, that got me right in the feels.
This entire book got me right in the feels. It was fabulous. It was everything I wanted, and more than I needed. It’s the reason I’m going to be stalking this author until she releases her next book. P. Dangelico, get back to your computer and start writing your next story because I need it. Right now.

Okay, so yes, let's get this out of the way first: I do realize this couple doesn't act like their age at all. I mean, AT ALL, but for some reason I was able to ignore that and really, really enjoy this book. That reason is probably the amazing chemistry and slow-burn. What can I say? I'm a sucker for those.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this story given the fact that there are clear problems with it. The age thing being one of them. Another is the fact that, even though he deserved it for being a grumpy man, I couldn't believe Ally thought she'd get away with how disrespecting she was to her client and (later) boss. It doesn't sound quite realistic for someone to act the way she did, but again....for some reason, I didn't care. I was still able to enjoy this a whole LOT because the bickering and no-we-won't/no-we-can't was sooooo amazing. I LOVED, LOVED their chemistry.
So, in the end, while I can see why some of my friends rated this so low, I still found a lot to like about this story. My advice? Give it a shot and see what you think....more

Again, the comfort of going back to a favorite author.... I've been a fan of Kristen Callihan for a while. Her VIP series is one of my favorites, and though this isn't as good as the first two titles in that series, it's still pretty great. In truth, this concept (a slow burn childhood enemies romance) in the hands of one of my favorite romance writers had already guaranteed this to be a winner. It was a quick read with good romance and it came out in the perfect moment. Nothing better than forgetting how the world outside is on fire by losing oneself in a book like this....more

We have two books here: the first part with teen Eleanor & Grey and the second part with adult Eleanor & Grey.
The first part was great! It made me cry really hard. It had the best parents-child relationship ever, and it warmed my heart and then broke it into tiny little pieces later. It showed a beautiful romance story about teens supporting each other and going through tough times together and being cute.
The second part was not so great...*sad face* I didn't mind the feeling that I had read that book before as much as I minded the fact that Grey treated Eleanor as if she was just a passing memory. I understand that he was grieving his wife, but the love he had for the mother of his children made it feel like Eleanor was second best. I was sad for her.
So while I really, really liked the first part (it made me cry hard, so how couldn't I?), I wasn't much of a fan of the second part....more

3.5 "Hollywood & First Love" stars
I didn't love this one as much as previous Christina Lauren's books, but that was mostly because I think the chemistry between the two main characters was lacking a bit. Plus, I was highly disappointed by how they reunited with little effort from the hero to fix the mess he made. I'm not saying I don't understand why he did what he did in the past, but it was still messed up and I expected him to work harder. The heroine ended up forgiving him a little too fast for me.
Having said that, there were many positive aspects to the story--the heroine wasn't the usual quirky this duo writes, but she was relatable; the hero had his moments, especially when his family was concerned; the side characters were interesting; the dynamic between the heroine and her father was emotional; and I'm always here for Hollywood romances.
This wasn't what I expected, but it was still a good book....more

My reaction to this book:
Well, this book was a great mix of angst and a little slow burn with a trope that can work spectecularly if done well--arranged marriage. And this was done SO well. I loved the characters development, especially Theresa's. LOVED how she became a much stronger person who took matters into her own hands and took charge of her life. LOVED how Sandro showed vulnerability and fought for his wife and marriage. There was just enough groveling to earn Theresa's forgiveness and enough angst to keep me highly invested in the story.

But while I didn’t get the chance to be surprised by the twist, I still loved this story.
I’m not going to go ahead and say I was completely torn between the two romance stories in the book, but I was definitely captivated by the writing, the emotions and the main character. It’s hard to explain what made this book so special (since I already knew what the twist would be), but it held my attention from start to finish. It’s just one of those stories that clicked with me and left me thinking about it for long after I finished it.

Was The Paper Princess this problematic, too? Probably. But those are the kind of guilty pleasures I allow myself to read and enjoy every once in a while, even though there’s so much wrong with them.
The main reason this book was so addictive was because of RaeRae (Raven or Rae for those who don’t consider her their new best friend, which isn’t my case). RaeRae is Ella Harper on steroids and one of the most complicated, screwed up and entertaining characters I’ve read. She’s also my new favorite main character and I clearly don’t care if you hate her.

I love RaeRae and how she makes stupid decisions all the damn time just because she doesn’t give a damn, so I’m rating this book 4 stars for her, even though people should NOT follow RaeRae’s footsteps or be deceived by the fact that the relationships in this book are problematic AF.

You know what? I didn’t expect to like this book quite as much as I did, so this was definitely a great surprise.
I’ve read a couple of books by both Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, even though I haven’t rated them here for some reason (maybe because none of them really made an impact), but this is definitely my favorite.
I liked how quirky Charlotte was and how she stood up to Reed, who’s as arrogant, cynical, and demanding as the blurb suggests. I loved how she found herself in this job (and also that they portrayed an area of business that isn’t as common in romance books). I also loved Charlotte’s relationship with Reed’s grandmother and how the women bonded despite their age differences.
The romance is a mix of a lot of things I live for: enemies to friends to lovers with tons of angst (especially after the twist is revealed). It’s also slow burn, which is the one to go if you want to win my heart. The office romance, despite not being my top favorite trope, added some spice to their situation, so that was another positive element.
Overall, I’m pleased surprised at how much I enjoy this, and it made me want to read more from Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. ...more

3.5 “#NFLwivesarescary” Stars
As a fan of football and NFL-themed romances, I was looking forward to Intercepted, a book that got a huge amount of buzz before its release. The romance lived up to the hype, but I was so bothered by how women were portrayed in this story that I couldn’t fall entirely in love with the book.
Look, the protagonist, Marlee was fun and her voice was awesome, even with all the hashtags thrown in the middle. I loved that she was biracial! She was one of those “out there” people who loved their personality and didn’t make excuses for it, which made her easy to like. It also helped that this was written by a former NFL wife, which gave authenticity to the whole thing. There were some nice inside details thrown in there.
Gavin was a little grey for me. Not really alpha, not really beta, but still pretty hot and likable. Aside from that move near the end, he was thoughtful and respectful of Marlee. Together, Mrlee and Gavin had great chemistry.
If only based on the romance, my rating would’ve been higher. Problem is, Marlee pretty much hates and is hated/antagonized by practically every women she meets. Like I said, this is a debut from a former NFL wife, so I guess she knows what she’s talking about, but I still find it hard to believe every single NFL wife is a selfish, self-serving, problematic, bitchy person.
Thinking back, I can only recall two women that were nice to Marlee from start to finish: her best friend, Noami (a really great character), which doesn’t really count because being nice is part of the job as a BFF; and her new boss at a super cool bar she starts working at. Every other woman (and there were tons of them) antagonized her. The main villain was the wife of the former quarterback, and that rivalry worked just fine considering their loved ones position in the team, but it could’ve ended there. There was no need for every other woman to be portrayed as insufferable and selfish human beings. It really bothered me to see all the woman-on-woman hate.

Thank you, Swerve!
Here are the things I've said about this book before it was probably even written:
"I'm still so very much in love with all the band members, and dying to get my hands on the next titles. I'm guessing Lennon's story will reduce me to ashes, so I'm here...not-so-patiently waiting for that." - Review of Elliot Redeemed.
"While I have to say Lennon’s book is the one I’m most anxious about, I had a good time reading Nikan Rebuilt. It was a little different than what I expected, and maybe lower on the suspense and angst vibe than the previous titles in the series, but it was a pleasant read." - Review of Nikan Rebuilt.
So, yeah, I've been anxiously awaiting Lennon's book for a long time.
I'm glad to say it didn't disappoint.
Sure, it wasn't as angsty as I had imagined and sort of hoped for, but it was still a great and emotional read.
Lennon and Jordan are my favorite Preload members, so I couldn't be happier that Scarlett chose those two to start and end this great series. I'm sad to see all of them go, but at least I got to do it while finally learning more about Lennon, the drummer who acts like a jerk but is made of insecurities, trauma and a lot of love for his bandmates.
The story starts with a BOOM when a tragic event brings a huge chance into Lennon's life, forcing him to stay away from the only thing he thinks makes life worth living. I won't get into details because I believe going in blind is the best strategy, but I'll say I was shocked and a little pissed at the author for adding that trauma to Lennon's already long list. Having sad that, this choice made perfect sense considering everything Lennon believed about his worth and everything he learned throughout the book.
What followed were scenes that made me tear up. I got extremely emotional when he first realized what had happened and broke down, when he grieved what he had lost, when Petal stopped by and when he got a picture of her holding something he gave her...
I have to say this, though. I missed more of interactions between Lennon and his bandmates/brothers. I wished there had been more of that. The few interactions we got between them were stellar, especially the epilogue.
But since this is a romance, it makes sense that most of the book was focused on Georgia, the amazing woman tragedy brought into Lennon's life. With everything going on, Georgia was exactly the person Lennon needed to help him stay strong and go on with his life--she was extremely smart, patient and understanding. She didn't understimate his pain and suffering. She didn't try to sugarcoat the situation. She stayed by his side through all the bad moments and they finally got their well-deserved happy ending.
Again, I wished their relationship had been a little more angsty, but I was satisfied with the way things played out. I was also satisfied that, despite being a major influence in Lennon's new life, Georgia wasn't the only answer. It was Lennon's love for his family, as well as for Georgia, that made him want to adapt to his new life and keep going.
There were tons of touching messages and moments in this story and in the series overall. I'm so happy I got to read it from start to finish, and that the epilogue was the perfect addition. After everything those guys went through, they deserved their happy ending....more

OMG, was this the best reading week or what? I not only got an ARC of Baby Maker by P. Dangelico, but I also find out that Mariana Zapata had just released another book. How in the world of books did I not know about this release from one of the queens of slow burn? No idea!!!

But I correct that mistake, and I did it fast. Almost as fast as I read this book.
One moment I had just started it, then I blinked and it was 1 am and I needed to sleep because WORK IS A THING (why is work a thing when we have great books to read?) and then I sort of had to make time during work to read just because I could NOT stop. So I did. Don't tell anyone!
I simply devoured this book. Even after getting my fix of love-to-hate + slow burn from Baby Maker, I couldn't control myself when it came to From Lukov with Love because it was just that amazing.
So, what was this book about? Oh, well, it was about amazing, brilliant, strong, independent, please be my friend Jasmine Santos and smart-ass, hot, animal-lover Ivan Lukov and how they hate each other and how they are perfect for each other.
Dude, the shipping throughout this book was insane. Insane. I wanted them together from the moment Jas mentioned Ivan and how she disliked him, so imagine my complete joy when their first interaction was basically those two mocking each other and eye-sexing eaching other even though they had no idea that was what they were doing.

It took forever and ever for them to go from eye-sexing to everything sexing, but who cares when all I want in life is my fix of slow burn romance? So while I wanted for the kisses and all, I got to see a lot of this:
