It is so inspiring learning how much heart and soul these women have put into this sport; not only on the pitch, but in meetings and lawsuits and arguments. Reading this book in 2024 is also incredibly special, I think, because you can see the legacy they’ve created. Women’s soccer has never been bigger in the US, and it is thanks to those who have been fighting for equality since 1985.
I also particularly loved that this book was entertaining no matter what the topic was. Whether it was about lawsuits, the players’ personal lives, or the game itself, Murray made each moment feel special and important. There was never a dull moment, whether or not you know the players and the sport. I will 100% be rereading this again and look forward to using some of these stories in my thesis on women in the sports industry....more
