I think it's my 3rd book in a row that leaves me completely feeling-less and bored to the brim. So, I decided to DNF this one at about 30%. [image]
It's not the worst thing I've read, but it's far from the best as well.
The MC felt like a little kid running around in the woods, doing all sorts of stupid things for no reason. I mean, even a 3-year-old knows it's not ok to talk to strangers. Yes, maybe they're good, but really? Your dad tells you, (view spoiler)[ with his dying breath, don't trust anyone (hide spoiler)], and what do you do? You go and do exactly that.
I mean, yes, go, get your revenge, bloody your enemies, whatever, but use your brain! Don't be the reason they think humans are weird and stupid (even though you're not human).
Grr.
I really don't like idiots.
Besides this, though, the idea was ok and there's potential for a dystopian world if you have the patience to deal with annoying characters.

1. The characters are idiots. Not just one of them, but both. They talk like 10-year-olds and act like 16-year-old hormonal little teens. [image]
2. They are way too fictional, even for a (fictional) book. I need to give up too much reality to actually try and read this. [image]
3. Bad writing. I expected a bit more from this author... I got bored of the book even before finding out it's a 2-book series. [image]
4. Boring, typical, cliche plot. I don't expect a lot from a romance, but well, when you have nothing else, at least make the plot a bit more interesting. [image]
5. Idiots (I know, I mentioned this before, but believe me, it's worth mentioning again). [image]
So, in case you haven't noticed, I do not recommend this book. To anyone. Ever.

So, she had a difficult childhood and she tells a prisoner about all her problems. He gets out of jail and kidnaps her to make her feel better and get over all her problems (because that is definitely gonna help...). She's all scared and crying and wanting to get away but he's confused, doesn't know why she acts like that (the thought that kidnapping her is bad never even crosses his mind). [image]
He and his MC kill a man in front of her and in front of his 17-year-old son. Wow, he's so strong and powerful! [image]
He ruins her life, gets her to quit her job, threatens her every chance he gets and kind of tortures her mentally. But he only does it because he wants her to become stronger. What a wonderful, thoughtful man! [image]
I stopped when she starts falling for him because, well, it was just too much for me....more

The shy little cowgirl is a, well, shy little cowgirl one moment and the next she's all confidence and stuff. And the big bad bikes is a big bad biker for a few pages then he becomes a little pus*y. I am so confused! [image]
Even more, it was sooo boring! It's, like, a 200-page book but I've been trying to finish it for days now. Well, I give up, it's too much work. [image]
Why 1.5 stars, not less? Well, the cat and the little girl were pretty cool, I liked those. And Nash (the BFF of the big bad pus*y) could have potential if I think about.
Maybe I've just been lucky with great MC books lately, but still think this one just isn't worth your time....more

So yeah, the plot might get interesting at one point (from what I've heard from other reviews), but I think it's just not worth the hassle. I always hate heroines who complain about who/what they are and I especially hate it in UF. I want my bad-ass chicks and alpha heroes, not whiny little children who aren't happy with who they are.
Why the 2 stars, though? Frankly, because I've read worse. Way, way worse.

She was a sentinel (or guardian, can't remember what it was called) -in-training, she and only a few others were protecting New Orleans from all supernaturals (and we all know this city is always full of activity, no matter what book you read). Yet the badass future guardian didn't even know how to use a gun, never mind protecting herself any other way. She was a weak witch too, not like she could kill the bad guys with her eyes or something. Still, she never thought about learning how to defend herself (or how to take out the bad guys). Who does that?! How can you even become a protector (even in rl!) with no training? It pissed me off! [image]

She is so damn horny, like a hormonal teenage boy seeing a naked chick for the first time. How am I suppose to believe she's a virgin when she acts like this?! [image]
Don't get me wrong, I don't care if the MC is a virgin or the biggest slut ever, as long as her personality matches.
She has multiple personalities, one minute she loves the guy then says how he's an ass. She loves that he's a bad boy but hates him for it. She doesn't want a romantic guy but says the guy's an ass when he's not romantic enough. Make up your mind, woman! [image]
And, even more, she's supposed to be a freakin' teacher but she's an IDIOT! He's not too far behind either... [image]
The plot is bad too, it's way too much, from the meeting with the bad guys to the whole setting. There's no clear beginning, the writing is chaotic and everything is just over the top. I haven't finished it, maybe it all has some deeper meaning (probably not).

On the plus side, it's a bit different than the other MC books I've tried so far. So guess it's worth a try if you like that kind of thing....more

When I decided to read this one I saw two types of reviews: really good ones and really bad ones. I really hoped that I'd be in the "YES" category but well, guess I wasn't. It was a bad read for me.
Why the 1.5/2 stars? I can see the appeal, the guy has his good moments (although I DNFed, so maybe he gets better or maybe he gets worse, I just didn't have the patience to stay and find out). But all in all, I really really didn't like him. [image]...more
