But I still read a 450ish page book in one sitting because it kept me entertained. Was this original? Not at all. Did I care? Nope. It’s angsty, it has no world building, but the characters were messy and fun. A friend compared my feelings to watching a silly movie and that’s basically what this was. It was a good time if you don’t think too hard and just enjoy it for what it is!

It’s uh… 2am. 5stars.
Was this perfect? No absolutely not. Did I care? Not a single bit.
It was somehow The Serpent and the Wings of Night meets the hunger games meets fourth wing (for the academy) with a sprinkle of crescent city. There were definitely things taken from other books but not in a way that was bad? If that makes sense?
It was addicting and I obviously couldn’t put it down to have read the entire thing tonight into the early hours of the morning. Idk maybe I’ll feel different in the morning but for now it remains 5stars....more

I really enjoyed this one! There are things I loved and things I could see irritating people.
The good: Easy to follow world building and magic! A great plot from the start and the pacing was done really well! The trial of the gods was not overly done and really created a starting point for the real meat of this story. The relationships and romance were done really well! A delicious SSLLOOOWWWWW burn that pays off! A lot spicier than I initially thought it was going to be haha
The ehhh: This story is VERY clearly inspired by many of our favorite books/series. While nothing is out right copied you can tell where the inspiration came from and at times it seems a bit too close. This is where it might irk some people but ultimately it is its own story. I just hope it stays that way, keeping its own direction and doesn’t fall down the pit that many others do....more

I want to be clear here, the female narrator is amazing. She did the first two books single narration and I loved them. This is book 3 in the series and they went dual. The male narrator literally killed the story for me.
If book 4 is dual narrated I definitely won’t get the audio. I’ll have to just physically read it (which is fine and I might do it anyway.) but yeah, authors, be careful. A narrator can make or break your books. ...more

The MMC Skye is a quick witted banter master and love of my life (he just doesn’t know it yet) A shadow mage AKA shadow daddy, and a heartthrob of a male. He’s a cinnamon roll that could kill you. He must be protected at all costs!
The FMC Taly, is rebel without a cause. A strong willed, stubborn, handful of a girl. She is a human taken in by a fae family as their ward when they found her in the smoldering ruins of what must have been her home. She grew up in the fae world, with Skye as her best friend and partner in crime.
THIS WORLD IS EPIC.

Brewed in Magic is the second stand alone in her Falling for Fables series and I cannot get enough of them! I fell in love with these characters almost instantly.
A free spirited elf with her traveling tavern, and a new handsome charismatic man who happens to be a rival tavern owner competing for their place at the Yule festival.
These two go from rivals, to reluctant allies working together to solve a Yule ruining mystery, to bantering lovers.
I couldn’t get enough of this book and eagerly await the next!

A young woman wakes up in a magical dome (a prison) with no memory whatsoever. Not a soul in there with her other than that of a wolf who knows and loves her. Together they spend their days searching for a way out and surviving in the magical dome living in the sentient cottage at its center that caters to her every need. Every night she dreams of falling, slipping through the hands of a mysterious man.
The tall drink of water and General of the guard is trying to quell a rebellion of humans who claim to have magic. Which is ridiculous considering magic was eradicated. On a patrol, he stumbles through a dome in the deep dark part of the forest only to find the woman he’s been dreaming about every day for 6months! EEEEEEK.

The story starts off with an innocent human who accidentally murders a fae. In response, 4 of his big strong warrior companions cross from the fae realm to hunt down the human responsible and exact revenge.
But everything that could go wrong, does go wrong and the warrior fae end up running a cafe for the clever human who kind of sort of maybe accidentally used their true names and ensnared them.
This story was the epitome of cozy fantasy with comedic romance! I thoroughly enjoyed this! ...more

When I enjoy a book I usually look back on it with fondness, and this I only look back at with growing distaste for the use of other author’s creations that worked well with a fan base and copy pasting them into a new book. Adjusting my rating to 2 stars. I have read 3 books by this author now and I will not be continuing due to lack of originality.

I am struggling with how to rate this book and keep going back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. It had HUGE potential but ultimately… eh.
I went into this book looking to give the author a second chance after reading the first two books in her other series and not enjoying them due to the lack of original content.

I am not sure how much the trad published edition changed from the indie published one but I had a great time through this book.
I have been following the author for her folklore content on tiktok for years and over those years I’ve gotten to hear her story. This book is, in part, her story and I can understand how emotional this must have been for her.
I am not excusing her actions but if you separate the drama from the book, I enjoyed it a lot and think it was a different, fantasy romance story with magic and monsters (both animal and people). I personally didn’t find anything “problematic” with the story itself and I don’t have any issues with following the story POV to POV. I did however listen to the audio done by Natalie Naudus (amazing!) so that could have helped?
Either way, if you’ve looked at it but shied away from it due to the drama I get it. ...more

If you liked The Cruel Prince by This one falls somewhere in the 3-4 star range for me. It is dark, check the trigger warnings listed before reading.
If you liked The Cruel Prince by Holly Black but wished it was more adult… this book. I was about 170ish pages in before I started thinking to myself, is this a beauty and the beast retelling? Now having finished it, I think it has enough nods/elements of the fairytale to be considered a loose retelling. So basically Cruel Prince with Beauty and the Beast vibes.
The main character is a human servant who escapes her abusive master. She crosses the barrier separating the human and fae worlds and finds herself in a literal nightmare. She ends up barely surviving and taken to safety by the Umbra court. There she is surrounded by cunning trickster fae and shifters who all have their own agendas.
The prince of the Umbra court has his own issues and adding a human girl to the mix is just another problem he doesn't need. Despite his annoyance at her presence he finds himself drawn to her. He shouldn't be. He is malice, a monster that only knows how to destroy. He will be her undoing. Or will she be his?
This book was VERY back and forth with the characters relationships. They were never enemies to lovers, but not quite anything else. The base fantasy romance elements we love are all here, though pretty basic, I still had a good time. I will continue the series to see where the plot line goes....more

Say less besties I got it and read it. And it has artwork throughout the pages!
What if Gaston didn’t die when he was thrown from the tower at the end of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast?? What if he barely survived and was dragged from the river and nursed back to health only to discover he has no memory of who he is or where he came from? The only thing they found on his person was a tattered piece of cloth embroidered with a G. So they called him… G.
The author definitely captured the brute he was inherently and turned it into an endearing quality as the story goes on. The love interest is anything but ordinary and is the voice of reason for his wicked heart. This gets PRETTY SPICY as it unfolds and definitely plays on the primal side of a testosterone infused man. His need to protect, provide annnnd procreate.
This lands somewhere between 3.5-4stars for me, overall an interesting read! ...more
