Yes, this book deals with very heavy topics, like human trafficking and abuse, but Bek really grows and changes as a person in this story. He is there for Elly, and that made me emotional. I'm a happy reader today. ...more

Barbarian Alien had me in it's grasp, just like the first in the series. Gahhhhh, this was good.
I adored the grumpy, outcast male MC and the fierce, strong female MC. The pairing was just so good, and we really got to see a different perspective than the first in the series. I was a bit afraid that it was going to feel exactly like the first book, but it had a delightfully new vibe. Plus... Raahosh is bigger than the other aliens... everywhere...
I subtracted a full star from this book from the overuse of "cootie"- I know why Liz kept calling her symbiont that but it irked me- but the rest of the book was totally delightful. Yes, I'm fully aware that this isn't high brow literature, but I literally IDGAF.

Gah! Ruby Dixon, what have you done to me? Now I have to marathon the entire IPB (yes, I just made that abbreviation up) series. And marathon it I will... soooooo gladly.
I've been addicted to alien-human pairings for some time (thank you to Lily Mayne, my OG crack dealer), and this book just took it up to an eleven. It gave me very "The Last Pure Human"-vibes (google that *chef's kiss* story), and I ate up every single second of it.
The pacing? correct The sex? Oh, I'm theeeerrreee for it. I just couldn't get enough. It's been a hot minute since I've enjoyed a M/F book this much.
I know this story has lots of hype, and, IMO as a very seasoned romance reader, this story is unironically banging. I really enjoyed it, and though it is a quick, more sex-focused book, I think it strikes the perfect balance between romance, sex, and an interesting plot.
On to the next one! I'm preparing for a loooooong night.

Clueless frat boys giving "bro-jobs" and sloooooowly discovering their sexuality in a non-tortured, fluffy, adorbs way?? YAAAAASSSSSS
I'm a Lisa Henry and Sarah Honey fan-girl, especially since Sarah Honey brings out Lisa's light, non-tortured side (Lisa's solo works can get dark), and The Amazing Alpha Tau Boyfriend Project is an example of why. This little novella is a BREEZE to read, and will make you smile the entire time.
I'm a sucker for a sexuality discovery story, and "a sweet, caregiving frat boy who wants to help his twinky new 'bro' find love and OOPS falls in love" is pretty much my crack. These frat boys are unproblematic AF, and the whole story will almost make you want to go back to college again.
If I'm being completely honest, I wish there were 50 more pages of *ahem* alone-time between these two at the end of the story. I think we could have gotten WAY more detailed there. I find that collabs between these two authors are a bit lower in steam than Lisa's work alone, and I for sure wanted more steam after all that build-up. However, this story was such a nice change of pace from the angst for me that I was still completely happy.
Readers, welcome to the new frat-boy series that you won't want to put down! Already ready to start the next one.

Klune fan I'm thrilled that he has continued his streak of dreamy, excellent, sci-fi/fantasy writing with In the Lives of Puppets. The audiobook was BEYOND amazing, and I simply devoured this story.
I'm in love with Daniel Henning's narration of this story. I'm talking alllllll the bells and whistles, this narration is just perfection. Daniel Henning nails every voice, every emotion, every tone. I didn't ever want to stop listening.
I'm so proud of TJ Klune for doing such a great job with this story. He gave it his signature humor and just banging dialogue without feeling like he was regurgitating previous characters. Sometimes, I feel like his characters tend to have the same vibe, but he branched out with this one. The characters are unique and brilliant, but don't feel too contrived. I fell in love with the whole cast of characters.
I think the story is a bit light on the romance, but you have to view it as more of an adventure story than a genre romance book. It has a sweet spark of something... more, but it's more about selecting your path and your chosen family and less about romantic love. Plus, with a robot and an asexual MC, there is zero sex content in this story, so just be prepared for that.
I think T.J. Klune really nailed this one, and it was made SO much better with the audio format. One of my favorite books of the year.
I'm an OG fan of Sarina Bowen going back to Him, which is one of my all-time favorite books. However, I've not found that same magic in other Sarina Bowen books, even her M/M ones or hockey ones.... UNTIL NOW.
Gah! This book just gave me ALL the feels.
We get a MC with a kid (trust me, it works) who is a widower, and another who is a closeted bisexual hockey player just trying to figure out his place in the hockey world. I LOVED their meet-cute and the way their relationship slowly developed over time. There was just such a nice slow burn that balanced their simmering chemistry with evenly paced relationship development.
The story could have veered off and been too dramatic with the side plots (I was dreading that, especially with the kid-related drama), but Sarina Bowen kept everything in check. It was the perfect balance of hockey action, romance, sexy-time, and a little angst sprinkled in. Nothing felt extra and nothing felt like not enough.
A romantic and medium angst book for hockey lovers and fans of Sarina Bowen, The New Guy checked all of my boxes. I can't wait to see where this series takes me.

It had a retro vibe that made this story instantly irresistible, and it was SO romantic. Just insanely swoon-worthy. Lor, you have my heart.
This book feels more delicate and very different than others in the series, which was a bit refreshing. Not that I couldn't read 1,000 books taking place in the dystopian world that Lily Mayne created, but it was fun to read about the royals on the monster planet where all of the beasts came from. But it wasn't just the setting and cast of characters, but the total devotion that Lor had for Jugs. Gahhhh! It melted my jaded little heart. This couple is pure love and fluff and I was HERE for it.
Adored everything about this book. It gives amazing insight into a number of the characters from the other books, and it also is just an incredible story that stands on it's own. Lily Mayne, just take all my stars. This book deserves them all, and a spot on my favorites list.
OMG, MOTH! This book killed me in the best possible way. Lily Mayne managed to outdo herself again with maybe my favorite in the series so far. Moth iOMG, MOTH! I'm going to keep saying this over and over, but Lily Mayne is a goddess and needs to be protected at all costs. She created MOTH. Ahhhhh, this character. I can't even get into it, I loved him so much. Just hurt/comfort perfection with some really interesting plot twists having to do with Moth's origins. I could NOT put it down.

Wow, wow, wow! Gloam was just what I wanted. So much interesting character development and exciting world-building here. I could NOT put this book down.
Lily Mayne is just rocking every book in the Monstrous series and I'm here for it. I mean, slam dunk after slam dunk. I'm in heaven.
Gloam was so full of angst and so romantic. And the slow burn! lkfjslkfjslkfjdslkf, it was just perfect. These two spent page after page getting to know each other and communicating in a gentle, yet somehow insanely compelling way. It doesn't make sense how 100 pages of them just walking and talking was unputdownable, but it was.
I love how Lily Mayne makes her monsters feel like actual monsters. They aren't sexy vampires or beautiful fairies, but actually acquired tastes. I loved how the relationships develop organically and with an emotional connection first.
Gloam's storyline was heartbreaking to read, yet so hopeful. Adam and Gloam were such a glorious pair.
Can Lily Mayne keep topping herself with the next story? I can't wait to find out.

I'm in looooove with this series! Give me all of the strange colors, sizes, and shapes of monsters (plus their appendages) because Lily Mayne has made me a VERY happy camper.
While Edin wasn't quite as amazing as Soul Eater, I still enjoyed it immensely. A huge purple monster (huge everywhere) and a soldier missing a limb... ahhhh, I'm in heaven. I love interesting couples, and I was totally down with Edin and Hunter.
I even enjoyed how prickly Hunter was in the beginning of the story. Edin was jolly and easy to like, but I liked how Hunter was flawed, really flawed. I'm so sick of perfect MCs being perfect, so it was refreshing to see an MC sort of act like a dick. However, once Edin and Hunter got together it was magic... sexy magic. They both were going through a lot, each with a long history of trauma, but as a couple they were sweet and surprisingly unproblematic. I couldn't get enough.
This series is just so wonderful. It is a bit violent and angsty, but the world-building is top notch and the characters are all *chef's kiss*.
Wow, this novella hit ALL the right notes. It's been 7 years since I've last read a Kate Daniels books, and I was sucked right back in!

To be honest, I was worried before starting Magic Tides. I'm not caught up with my Kate Daniels books, and I was very concerned that I wouldn't be follow along. However, it was surprisingly easy to get back into the groove with this story.
I would highly recommend that you at least read a few Kate Daniels books or else I think you will be totally lost. There is a lot of information there, but Ilona Andrews does a great job at introducing the information in a digestible way.
My favorite thing about this book was that it was just pure FUN. It was exciting and energizing, and I couldn't get enough. Kate went on one long, exhilarating adventure, and I literally couldn't put the book down. It's a shorter story, but I think it's a great length to hook readers into the new series.
Ilona Andrews can do no wrong, and this book was back to Ilona Andrews basics. Amen.

I've been reading so much contemporary romance that I forgot what it was like to be swept into another world, but C.S. Pacat took me there.
I haven't read a full-length C.S. Pacat in years. My daughter and I buddy-read the Fence, Vol. 1 series, but I had honestly forgotten what power this author can wield. Dark Rise blew my mother forking mind.
I knew from reading some reviews that this book had some twists, so I was sort of prepared for emotional and mental mayhem, but I still was very surprised but a ton of the content. However, lots of authors can write twists into their books, but fewer authors can make it make organic sense.
Best of all, C.S. Pacat really stunned me with the phenomenal world-building. I was completely in it, almost from page one. For a book that is nearly 500 pages, the pacing and world-building was really remarkable. I read it all in one sitting (and I was holding a HARDCOVER! that $hit is heavy!), and I didn't want to put it down. This was a 2 am read for me. I would have read it all night.
There are some *very* minor hints at romance, but don't get your hopes up or read it for that. Primarily, this is a fantasy book, and a YA fantasy at that.
After reading this STUNNING book, I can't believe I have to wait another three months for the second book. It will be nearly unbearable...
Ugh, just buy this book. It ruined me, and I loved every minute of it.

YES, Lily Mayne, hell yes.
To be honest, I'm not much of a fan of violent books, but I'm in love with Lily Mayne's Folk series, so I knew I had to read this one. And it was juuuuuust right. I've been a fan of alien/human pairings for some time, and this one w-o-r-k-e-d for me. I was here for the oh-so-scary faces and oh-so-interesting appendages... I'm here for it.
The world-building was a little rushed but I got the idea and I really enjoyed it. It left me wanting more, and it left room for lots of other characters and their stories.
There is hurt/comfort galore, there is SEX galore, and there is excitement galore. I'm just so down with this series.

I'm officially bumping my rating to 5-stars from it's previous 4 stars. I've read this series all the way through twice and twice in audio. It's my comfort re-read, even though it's over 25 hours of listening. There is NOTHING like Patrick McCloud (I'm sorry, DOCTOR Patrick McCloud), and I think the narration is one of John Solo's best work. Yes, there are parts that will make you want to pull your hair out, but I keep coming back to this story.

ADORE.
I highly, highly recommend that you buy the entire series at once, because (trust me) you will NOT be able to put it down once you start!
I'm not a huge fan of serials, and so I was wishy-washy about starting Will & Patrick Wake Up Married. However, I was swayed by the excellent reviews and the promise of fun, fluffy, comfort romance. Plus, I'm a sucker for the "accidentally/forced married" trope.
I started the serial off feeling a tiny bit lackluster. Patrick comes off as a huge jerk in the first episode, and I sort of wanted to punch him. More than a little bit. Also, I wasn't expecting third person, present tense, which took a little while to get used to. However, once I got into the swing of things, I literally couldn't stop!
My favorites were some of the middle episodes. They are HOT. Like suuuuuuper hot, and I was pleasently surprised by the light kink. Also, the sexual tension build-up to when they finally get it on again is sooooo worth the wait.
Be prepared to want to smack both guys in the head. They doubt themselves and their relationship way too much, listen to others WAY too much, and have to deal with roadblock after roadblock. But the journey is deliciously satisfying and makes all the *groan* moments worthwhile.
The story is light, sexy, funny, and you'll fall in love with both MCs (especially Patrick). One of the best series I've read in a long time.
