The Gumnut babies are a timeless and whimsical classic in Australia’s literary history. These two little bush brothers are preparing for Christmas, in their own ways, a winsome Aussie Christmas adventure that relays what really is important during the festive season.
May Gibbs’ illustrations are as charming and whimsical as always, creating almost fairy-like creatures from the outback. This really reminded me of reading the collection of the Gumnut Babies when I was little and now makes me want to add it to my own collection again and reminisce down memory lane with these adorable characters.
A short, simple, and sweet Christmas story to add to the collection.

The moral of the story is touching and has this whimsical Dickensian feel to it, taking place in an alternative London where fairy tales are alive. For a story that is under 100 pages, it is jam packed with magic and wonder, a tale of friendship, treasure, mystery, and opening your heart to trust. This is a fully completed storyline that also leaves room to be included in future novels set in the same world.
Tabetha and Ofelia are fantastic characters, each with their own struggle and their own heart.
Cornelia isn't just a talented storyteller but also a wonderful illustrator, perfectly embodying the story with haunting and alluring sketches.
This novella is a delightful read for Christmas, as well as making a lovely Christmas gift too! I do hope Tabetha and Ofelia make an appearance in upcoming Mirrorworld novels!

A story that has never been told until now, one that's filled with magic, mystery and a sister's journey to find her lost twin brother. This has the making of being turned into a film.
It's woven like an old fairy tale, courage and love combined with folklore and a touch of darkness, reading very much like a Grimm tale in which some great stories don't always have a happy ending, even though it is alluded that sequel will happen.
A new Christmas story incorporating festive mythology that makes you reimagine a new kind of Christmas.

Morrigan really flourishes and develops as her ‘knack’ has now been revealed. I love how the ‘knacks’ aren’t your typical ‘superhero’ powers, it really made the wondrous society stand out and intriguing. Morrigan has so many relatable characteristics that she is the ultimate heroine to cheers for. A true tale of friendships; meeting new people, overcoming obstacles together, and acceptance. Unit 919 is such a diverse team. The characters, the world-building, the unexpected plot twists. and the plot absolutely shine with Jessica’s writing talent.
Ezra Squall is a true villain incarnate, one that is written incredibly. The whole scene with the Ghastly Market was chilling and compelling! Everything is so enthralling to read.
This series if full of magic, humour, mystery, adventure, and friendships. An absolute bundle of joy to read and devour!
Just when you think this series can't get any more lovable, Anna James adds fairytales into the mix (cue fainting dramatically)

The book is incredibly whimsical, adventurous and pure. A fast-paced magical adventure (perfect for reading at Christmas). Tilly and Oskar are the most adorable main characters. They show bravery, kindness, curiosity, and daring in all their bookish adventures. Their friendship continually grows and develops in strength.
I wish the fairytales and the characters had been expanded more but it was still thoroughly enjoyable. The illustrations are so charming and really suit the style of the story. This series had endless possibilities. It has sweet moral undertones for children to learn through in subtle ways. Each time a book reference came up I was super excited, almost like reminiscing with old friends.
An enthralling series that will forever capture the hearts of bookworms of all ages.
This has to be my FAVOURITE Christmas read of all time! I know, big statement, but this was absolutely delightful and creative and empowering!

This is a story of magic and true friendship, wrapped up in a big Christmas ribbon and decorated with tinsel. Blanche and Rinki's friendship was the absolute highlight, especially with the meaning that everyone has their own path to follow, encourage and support one another on this path, and ultimately friendship can withstand the length the time.
Set in Victorian London at Christmas time, this is a quirky and whimsical tale rather than the more sober and tragic Christmas stories set around that time. The author has infused the plot with the utter joy and wonder of the season. All the christmasy details were PERFECT and some had me chuckling out loud. But what I really, truly loved was the empowering, and subtle message of girl power, feminism, and supporting one another, probably the best MG book I've read that delivers this in such an important and wholesome way, it gave me so much joy and positivity.
Hilarious and full of charm and wonder! This is a festive adventure to come back to year after year! I know I will and I will had to do it with a mince-pie celebration feast. If you think you know the story of Santa, think again...

Right from the very start this book sweeps you away on a delightfully colourful ride. The story is just as colourful and fun as the gorgeous cover depicts, with a sweet underlying message towards the very end. The world-building is marvellous, it's like a cross between Wonderland and the wizarding world. The characters are enchanting. While Morrigan makes a charming, strong, and realistic heroine, on par with Alice and Dorothy - Jupiter North, Frank the vampire dwarf and Fenestra the Magnificat are my favourite characters
It has all the ingredients to make this into such an engrossing read, action, fantasy, layers of mystery, a magical school, witty dialogue, talent trials, brolly rails, and a gigantic cat! The plot starts instantaneously, with everything following perfectly behind. This series will be a massive hit, already blossoming into a magical phenomenon.
I am booking a room at Hotel Deucalion, check please!

They are written to be accessible for children and to help them understand what is happening in the world, and how we can shape a better future, and basically be a kind and decent human being which is SO important to teach in children
I just love learning more about the Fairy Council, their characters have been given so much more depth and backstory in this prequel series. It also allows us to learn more about other fairy tale characters and how they are connected to the world, which I just can’t get enough of! As always Chris’s humour is laugh-out-loud moments. I loved reading the instances and feelings that are shared between Brystal and her granddaughter Alex (in the original series), that was really touching.
The school for Witchcraft was creepy, giving off Hocus Pocus vibes (in a good way). The story is a lot darker than its predecessor but its morals really shine through. There so many magical words of wisdom that really touch your heart.
