Riordan is cramming so much information into these books, it is amazing. I love the character relationships. And I love that Percy is kind of a dumb ass sometimes. Tyson is still my favorite. I love him!...more

I received a digital ARC of this one from the publisher and figured I'd give it a shot.
I read mostly children's and YA novels, so sometimes reading an adult novel tests my patience. This was one of those times. It took a good 250 pages or so to finally reach the reveal of the novel - the terrible thing that happened at the barbecue that day. I was continuously frustrated by how long it took to get to this reveal. But, when the reveal finally happened and I realized there were still 200 pages left in the novel, I was just as frustrated. What more could possibly take up 200 pages? I felt this was, overall, unnecessarily drawn-out. It was enjoyable enough, but not something I'd be very inclined to enthusiastically recommend. I'd still like to give another of her titles a try, but this was an overwhelming first venture with her.
Thanks to the publisher for a digital advance reader's copy, provided via NetGalley....more

The I've been doing this Dark Tower extended reading list this year and sometimes the connections are very subtle. That's not the case with this one. The connection to the Dark Tower books is very clear here. This is a really interesting King novel - not nearly as many characters as he normally introduces and the main characters are much older than he typically writes. I enjoyed this, though, and am really glad I'm reading through King's novels....more

Maybe should have started with a different one, or at least not the audio version of this. There were far too many characters to keep up with in the audiobook, particularly as some characters are introduced and then not revisited for a looooooooong time. It's still a decent read, and definitely has a lot of appeal for kids....more
