i have so many mixed feelings about this book that i don't know where to start. i have a lot to say but i don't know how to express it so if what you i have so many mixed feelings about this book that i don't know where to start. i have a lot to say but i don't know how to express it so if what you find out her doesn't make sense, im sorry in advance
so ya'll know it, spoilers ahead
Gabe was an asshole. like a total one. and Dylan, well he was a sweetheart. As per the plot, Dylan is Gabe's secretary and has been in that position for the past two years during which he has equally loved and hated Gabe. but Gabe, see, he was a total asshole and was dating somebody throughout the book, even when he and Dylan first kiss and he calls it a "mistake" but we'll get back to that.
but anyway, we see throughout at least 70% of the book that Gabe is sleeping around while Dylan talks about him with both hate and love. only, more love, and i could actually feel Dylan's feelings for Gabe.
but Gabe, being who he was, fucked everything up all the damn time. After the first time he and Dylan kissed, he abandoned Dylan, treated him like shit, and managed to even have a threesome and fuck through half the population of London right after. i'm surprised he was able to do that considering how much time he spent in treating Dylan like shit.
And then, even after he expressed at times that he liked Dylan, he made a point of kissing every guy in the vicinity right in front of Dylan. i mean i get it, broken boy wants to push the boy he loves away but can we just stop the fucking drama for a moment here? this is not about pushing people away bc you love them, this is just hiding behind a past and treating people like that and using it as an excuse.
i'm sorry if im being harsh here, but im so fucking tired of using tragic pasts as an excuse to treat people like shit. i'll say that i love the angst that tragic pasts make up in a love story, and i have enjoyed all of it on more than one occasion, but Gabe just treated Dylan like a "piece of hot ass" and even called him that to his face one time. He also called Dylan "a whore" once and blabbed about how he was at least a good tipper or something i just skipped that page right after. i am- wow. i'm speechless here. did you really tell the the person you allegedly "love" that he was a whore and that you tipped him well??? in front of people???
and when Dylan got a little tender and closer to Gabe, Gabe knew it. He knew it was valentines day and how much Dylan loved it. He knew it and so he asked him out for dinner even though Dylan told him he didn't expect anything. but when Gabe asked him to go out for dinner, Dylan got his fucking hopes up and got all dressed up. he was happy. but then, Gabe showed up at Dylan's place two hours after the time he was supposed to arrive...with another guy. yup, and not even any guy, it was one of his daily fucks. The one out of thousands that he and his boyfriend (now ex) shared.
and i'm not even exaggerating with the "thousands" comment bc you see, there were 3 or maybe 4 at the place they'd gone (and he'd selfishly forced Dylan to go with) only for Dylan to witness the entire scene. and then after, when they'd gone for another trip, there was a red-head, then there was the threesome at the club (once again in front of Dylan) and then so many more.
I just couldn't keep up with his antics and wanted to throw my kindle across the room at times. every time Dylan tried to move on, there Gabe was, ruining everything. i really, really wanted to see Dylan sleep with someone else even if it meant nothing bc Gabe treated Dylan like he has his possession but at the same time fucked through the population of London. and Dylan knew that too.
and then when they had a fight and Dylan broke up with Gabe and stood up for himself, i was so fucking happy. but well ofc that didn't stop Gabe from insulting Dylan in from of people, ofc not. he insulted Dylan to the worst degree calling him all kinds of things and then some.
but then, in the last 10%, there it was, Gabe's redemption arc. how he'd just "changed" bc Dylan leaving made him realise how much he actually loved him and shit
i wanna say that i didn't buy the sob story but he just did a 360 degree spin with the whole "i'm so deeply in love with Dylan omg" and i'm so confused. but i was happy for Dylan but still like no, you can't just do all of that and then say you deserve Dylan's love. no just no.
also the tragic past? yea there was nothing there. at least nothing to make Gabe behave the way he did
i love Lily Morton, i do, but this one just didn't work for me. but obviously this isn't going to stop me from her future works.
not the best book by the author but it was still pretty fun. i guess you just have to be in a mood while reading an R.S Grey book. and i kn3 stars
not the best book by the author but it was still pretty fun. i guess you just have to be in a mood while reading an R.S Grey book. and i knew i was in that mood after reading Beach Read which i had a couple of issues with.
i was looking for a fun and sexy read. and i some what got it in this one. i just felt a couple of things were rushed and didn't work for me.
plot:Sam (h) and Ian (H) have been best friends for three years now. they teach at the same school and thats how they met. the two of them have always been in love with the other but they never expressed their feelings, and friend-zoned the other. Ian has finally had enough and decides to confront Sam about it and these two then finally move towards their hea.
now, lets start with the things that didn't work for me. for one, how Ian decide to "confront" Sam about his feelings. see, there wasn't much confrontation involved since he basically sort of tricked her (??) into phone sex.
yea so they are talking on the phone, Ian requests a face time call, Sam accepts it and then he makes her orgasm. not the best way to tell your best friend you have feelings for her.
later, Sam obviously shell shocked, basically acts immature and silly and tries to get him to have sex with her but play off everything else at the same time. i liked that Ian didn't give into it and told her that he wanted to take her out for a date. but that never happened bc next thing i know, they are married.
they got married bc they worked at the same school and were afraid how the parents would react to them being together. it was so so stupid and ruined my fun of the book.
and the parts after this were so rushed, bc the next thing that happens is a two years later epilogue where they have a daughter followed by a weird conversation about some circus.
if those things with the marriage without really showing us their relationship hadn't happened, i would have definitely enjoyed this book better.
R.S Grey is one of my all time favourite author, and she really knows how to make me laugh and so, i'm really looking forward to read other of her works....more
So, the H is basically treating women as sex toys and he isn’t even ashamed about it. His son is doing the same, and instead of stopping him,Dnf @45%
So, the H is basically treating women as sex toys and he isn’t even ashamed about it. His son is doing the same, and instead of stopping him, he mentions how his son’s type is blonde, fake bimbos whereas he’s more of a brunette guy too much information The dumb chick (h), signs the contract of handing herself over to him and says “no sex” and in exactly the next para, they are having sex. THE NEXT PARAGRAPH!! Not even like after a few chapters. Also, she is a virgin and the sex wasn’t exactly consensual. If anything, she was looking behind cuz someone entered the office, and the next thing she knows, POP goes the weasel her cherry! Aaand, she isn’t even mad about it! nor is the hero ashamed, if anything both of them acted unruffled! Also, the whole sharing thing was absurd and disturbing *I’m traumatized all over again after Corrupt* but there wasn’t really a threesome here, the “friend” was watching instead. Also, she was basically being thrown around by the hero! Also, these men are around 40ish years old, each with sons and they talk about young women in such a disgusting way that there are no words for it! I still can’t believe that they had SONS and that each of them were married at some point! For instance, the H in this book, he has a son who is 18 and his wife died 8 years prior due to cancer! you’re lucky, you’re fictional, you asshole, I would’ve beaten the crap out of you otherwise
Me, the entire time I read this book: gag. hurl. diarrhea. repeat.
Needless to say, I wouldn’t recommend this book in a thousand years! This is gonna be the first and last book I’m gonna read in this series! Sorry, but this isn’t my cuppa!...more
So, 61% of the books and nothing....the blurb tells us about how she works for him and he is an asshole and that's exactly what's accomplishedDNF @61%
So, 61% of the books and nothing....the blurb tells us about how she works for him and he is an asshole and that's exactly what's accomplished in the first 61%, I mean more than half of the book is done and nothing is happening.
Not to mention whatever 2% of the book I actually liked was ruined by the heroine like [image]
It was just too much, I mean both of them and their child like behaviour was just pathetic and honestly, I felt like punching the heroine. [image]
Even though this book didn't work out for me, it won't stop me from future reads by this author!!...more
This book was bad. Just so so bad. The blurb made this book sound so interesting but r**spoiler alert** [image]

This book was bad. Just so so bad. The blurb made this book sound so interesting but really? It was a hot mess, actually even worse in my opinion.
This book was just a big whole 'meh' for me [image]
So, these two meet the first time on a plane when she is upgraded first class and spend a wild night together. The next time they meet is about a year later when Emily starts working for Jameson's company. They never forgot each other, the stranger from the night in Boston but he never asked for her number and she, well, she was ANGRY that he didn't.
So, lets just get this over with...
Things I didn't like: Pretty much everything
➢ the start was pretty good, I'll admit the witty banter and their meeting on the plane was nice but after that...*blech* ➢ but after that..it was just too much. I'll admit I liked the first 20% of the book where there was some push and pull between the MC's and how she stood her ground, buuuuttt not for long... ➢ because after 20% there was A LOT of repetition. Honestly, I felt like I was on loop: MC sleep together → H doesn't want relationship → h wants relationship → H says something rude → h tells him to go away → *dont talk for two days* → H wants to sleep with her again aaannnndd [image]
All of this round-n-round was cute up till the first 20% but after that, it was just frustrating and rage inducing not to mention immature behaviour which is not expected from characters in their 20s and 30s. And the jealousy? Emily leaves at 3:48 in the night from Jay's place because she has to do "work" and the reason? She saw a message on his phone from a girl named Chloe asking where he was last night. Because of course if a girl asks your man where he was, it's cheating. [image]
➢ the heroine says she isn't some one-night stand and nor is she a pushover [image]
BECAUSE... [image]
She says, and I quote, "I'm such a pushover, a dinner was all it took for him to convince me." Weaker than water (is water weak? cause according to the book it is) I mean surprise, surprise she says it herself.
➢ Oh, and frowning much? because the word "frown" appeared at least 261 times, so all Emily did throughout the books was frown. ➢ no wait she did do one other thing. What is that you ask? well, ask questions. "what" "how" "when" "why"... you name it, I mean Whats with all the questions? [image]
Now, do not get me started on Jameson
➢ the push/pull was exhausting!! ➢ he doesnt want a relationship but one morning he wakes up and realises 'she's the one' ➢ he tells her that she'd be moving in with him and dumb little girl doesn't even ask 'why?' because of course, my mistake, it's perfectly normal. [image]
➢ I mean she kept asking unrequired questions throughout the book but not now, not when it counted.
Sighhh. So many people have liked this book but I just don't get it, the book was too long in my opinion and trust me, the ranting? Its only for the first 55% of the book because do not even get me started on the rest of the book. I’m just really annoyed and I wished I dnfed this because it was a huge waste of time.
The major turn-off for this book were the fights and the jealousy and honestly, that was probably why I hated this book so much. No couple fights like this and if they do, well trust me hon' you guys don't wanna be together. These two just couldn't communicate like normal people and just flew accusations here and there.
Anyways, I saw so many great reviews for this book but it just wasn't for me. I just couldn't keep up with the accusations, jealously, fights and absurdity of basically everything in the book. I'm sorry, but this book just wasn't for me. This book may not have been the one for me, but it definitely won't stop me from future reads by this author!...more
