this genre will forever be superior to me. i loved pippa and her determination towards the case and the way she spouted off random pieces of information.
the book was a rollercoaster, there were so many pieces of information and so many characters but i loved how the author kept recounting them and portrayed them in such a manner that i didn't forget anything and at the same time felt like i was solving the case w pippa and ravi.
ravi is loml. i loved his character and his loyalty towards his brother, sal. my heart broke for ravi's entire family and the unjust discrimination they were put through. and ofc, sal. what he was put through was totally unfair.
the side characters were all amazing. i didn't think naomi deserved the free pass that she got but i understand bc like cara has already lost everyone, and her losing the only person she has left would be disastrous.
overall, totally loved this book and i cannot wait to jump into the next one....more
i love Taylor Swift she is my queen but holy shit this is such an Alex Claremont-Diaz song go listen to it now
history huh?
i honestly don’t know where to start. i deleted my original review and wrote at least seven drafts and i still cannot encompass in this review how truly and deeply i love this book. it is one of the most precious things to me in this world and I don't think i'll ever get enough of it.
"I thought, this is the most incredible thing I have ever seen, and I had better keep it a safe distance away from me. I thought, if someone like that ever loved me, it would set me on fire. And then I was a careless fool, and I fell in love with you anyway."
so where should i start? red white and royal blue goes from childhood crush to enemies to fake friends to sort of friends to real friends to friends with benefits to established relationship and if this still does not convince you to read this book, i do not know what to say to you.
"Sometimes you just jump and hope it's not a cliff."
let's start at the very beginning with the cake-tastrophy after which Alex and Henry, childhood nemesis, are forced to spend time together. After spending a weekend in England, Alex and Henry form a bond that’s not friendship but a little less and a little more at the same time. also, can i just say that i aspire to reach Alex’s level of denial someday like damn the guy can't see what’s been in front of him for years.
"So Henry’s your new best friend,” Zahra continues. “You will smile and nod and not piss off anyone while you and Henry spend the weekend doing charity appearances and talking to the press about how much you love each other’s company. If somebody asks about him, I want to hear you gush like he’s your fucking prom date.”
Through phone calls, midnight texts and inappropriate selfies, these two form a beautiful friendship that turns into so much more when Henry finally kisses Alexi can’t breathe
okay so i’m gonna break apart my gushing about A and H for a second here bc can we just take a moment to appreciate the strong and independent women in the book?? Zahra, Ellen, Nora, June and all the other ladies. they were all such badass female leads and so fucking inspiring.
"That's the choice. I love him, with all that, because of all that. On purpose. I love him on purpose."
i want someone to tell me this please i'm crying. the love between these two was just so palpable and precious. the letters and e-mails they wrote to each other? the secret smiles and touches and midnight calls, sneaking off to other rooms and dancing at midnight in a museum under the stars. i- if i ever meet the author, i’m gonna tackle her into a big bear hug and tell her how she’s made my life by writing these beautiful 500 pages.
"To every person in search of somewhere to belong who happened to pick up this book, I hope you found a place in here, even if just for a few pages. You are loved. I wrote this for you. Keep fighting, keep making history, keep looking after one another." ― Casey McQuiston
and now, since i still do not totally like this draft and bc I still can’t express my feelings towards it in this review, i’m gonna make a list.
AN INCOMPLETE LIST: REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD READ RED WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE
• this. how hilarious it is.
"Listen," Alex tells her, "royal weddings are trash, the princes who have royal weddings are trash, the imperialism that allows princes to exist at all is trash. It's trash turtles all the way down." "Is this your TED Talk?" June asks. "You do realise America is a genocidal empire too, right?" "Yes, June, but at least we have the decency not to keep a monarchy around," Alex says, throwing a pistachio at her.
"Don’t act like this isn't all a part of your extra long game of abusing your position to murder Woody Allen and make it look like an accident." Alex says "He’s so frail; it’d just take one good push—"
• the whole turkey thing (especially his conversation with Henry)
"How is it different from a hotel room? Put the turkeys in my room, Mom," "I’m not putting the turkeys in your room." "Put the turkeys in my room." "No" "Put them in my room, put them in my room, put them in my room, put them in my room, put them in my room—"
• the fucking comedy ????
"Let's get it over with." "I'd rather be waterboarded," Henry says, smiling back. The camera snaps nearby. His eyes are big and soft and blue, and he desperately needs to be punched in one of them. “Your country could probably arrange that." Alex throws his head back and laughs handsomely, loud and false. "Go fuck yourself." "Hardly enough time," Henry says. He releases Alex’s hand as Shaan returns.
• i think this slide speaks volumes for itself

this list is still incomplete and i plan to add to it everytime i read rwrb but please, please, please go read the book if you haven’t, and if you have, well, go read it again.
there is not another book that i love like i do this one and i cannot recommend it enough.
"And we’re gonna make it work. You and me and history, remember? We’re just gonna fucking fight. Because you’re it, okay? I’m never gonna love anybody in the world like I love you. So, I promise you, one day we’ll be able to just be, and fuck everyone else." ________________________________
