The success or failure of Maroon communities seem to be focused on their usefulness to European colonies or their ability to beat European colonial armies. There's no real look at what these existing communities meant to Enslaved Peoples, why they hid them at great risk to themselves. There's no look at Maroon's who were used as cannon fodder for lazy colonists or to capture and keep control of Enslaved Peoples in their communities. It's outrageously dated and proves yet again why the 1619 Project and similar books are needed. To counter this blatantly white supremacist narrative....more
