This one is a must for all. While handled very comically, the subject matter, a fictional take on justice for the lynching of real life Emmet Till back in 1955, is very sobering. When I was growing up, we knew Mississippi was a very scary place, but I had no idea about Emmet Till until reading this book. Within the book, a list is compiled of every African American ever lynched from the 1800's up to the present. I am so thankful to Ms. Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche for this amazing book. I love it when I can see/learn from/be positively affected by someone else's perspective! I have been fortunate to have been raised by many different people and to have grown up engaging with people from all over the world. My life is far richer because of it.
A positive piece of knowledge that Ms. Adiche taught me from this writing is: There is a word in Igbo, "Obiocha", which means clear heart/pure heart. Obinze, one of the main characters, uses this word for people who authentically come from the heart. This word, this concept resonates profoundly in my soul. Thanks to those who helped put this book on my radar!...more

Even though she is no longer here with us, she has had and will continue to have a huge impact on what it means to be a human being.
