I don't think 'The Alchemist' is on 1001 Books list!

Joy Luck Club is not on "1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die" list although it is a good book.
Official site: http://1001beforeyoudie.com/"
There should be 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012 edition now.

Removed about 30 islamic books - all not list books obviously - added to the list by there publisher, Darussalem Publishing (seems to be list-spamming a lot).

There are only 505 books on this list, where are the other 495? Also there are a lot of books with German titles, is this list from Germany?

As we can only vote for 100 titles, it is impossible to make a list with 1001 titles all on your own... I for one ran out of votes, which is a pity really, as there are several other lovely books I've already read on this list.
By the way, the description clearly states Post which books of "The 1001 Books to Read Before You Die" you have already read. Maybe most of us read the same books, ever considered that? :-)
As to the German titles, when you add English books you've read in a (German) translation, the easiest way to add is to add your own edition (in other words, the translated version you've read), which is undoubtedly why so many of the titles are in German, as you say. You might not have noticed, but for Bonjour tristesse a French edition is mentioned, for example.

Wow, it should be! I saw Veronika Decides to Die. Such a great read. The Alchemist belongs above it, however.
