Cursed Legacies #2

Shadow Heart

Rate this book
Assassinating the headmaster didn’t go as planned. Now Everbound University is on strict magical lockdown, and the Immortal Quintet has arrived to hunt down the person who killed their mage—which, ironically, isn’t me.

I’m also looking for the true culprit so I can find Kenzie.
Meanwhile, the four gorgeous, stubborn legacies that I’ve fought tooth and nail to resist are starting to figure me out, little by little…but I’m also starting to understand them.

And the more I do, the more I wonder if the gods really did match our broken souls together perfectly.

As tensions rise and the Immortal Quintet turns up the danger for all students, our quintet is forced to work together to survive. But training together is a dangerous game all its own. Because the more I get of these legacies, the more I want.

If they thought me rejecting them was brutal, they haven’t seen me fight to protect my own...
And now, that includes them.

Intended for 18+ readers due to strong language, violence, dark themes, and explicit sex scenes, including group sex (no M/M). Please read the updated TW. Book 2 of 4. No AI content here.

Oh... you got me. You got me there with the ending.

I'm mad at myself for finishing this too quickly but I couldn't help myself 😭 the plot was so engaging, even more than the first now that things are starting to get revealed. I freaking love the lore.

Maven was still the badass bitch we know & love. Even tho she started getting a little soft for the guys (much to her dismay, lol she hates being soft) it didn't get boring or too sappy, probably because she wasn't afraid to put the guys in their place. I loved how the guys respected her so much & they treated her so well.

And it still felt like a slowburn to me because there were a lot of moments where I was like.. is he in love yet? How far gone for her are they? and it was just... AHHHHHH

Gotta say tho, Silas had my heart in a chokehold in this. There was a scene where I just... man vulnerability is SEXY.

“This will be no acquaintanceship, not when we all crave you so ardently.”

YOU WHAT NOW SILAS??? CRAVE HER SO ARDENTLY?? SO ARDENTLY????

But then I remembered the letter Crypt wrote for Maven and realized he also had my heart in a chokehold.

Or when dragonBaelfire presented Maven with a gift of.. a burnt corpse.

And don't forget Everett and his attention to detail on everything Maven related....

Yeah I am so far gone for them all it's concerning even myself.

This book felt like a warm blanket. It had everything I love in a fantasy/pnr romance - training, brutal combat & navigating the wilderness arc. Loved every second of it.

This was perfect, especially the fighting scene with Maven... GAHHH I was hoping for that exact moment since book 1. So cool.

The only criticism I have is naming the strongest material made from ice that can't melt... nevermelt. Like.. COME ON 😭

Other than that, excuse me while I go sit in the corner and reflect on my life because I know the worst book hangover is about to get me.

AND NOW WHAT?! What do I do till the next book comes out??? 😭😭

OMGOMGOMG! I'm loving this series so far! This one was much less frustrating than the first book. Glad to see Maven opening up a little to the guys and seeing how far they'll go to help and protect her (even though she's probably the one that needs the least amount of protection between the 5 of them). Crypt and Baelfire are still my favorites! Frosty has me less angry now that I understand his motivations. Silas has proven himself more than once but I still lowkey don't really like him. We'll see how I'm feeling by the end of this series. I can't wait to see where the next book takes us! The next book can't come soon enough 😭

I Should Have Waited

This book has been on my wishlist for what feels like forever and I read it from 1:30 am to 8:30 am (with some small breaks) and I am so frustrated that I didn’t wait to read this book closer to the third book’s release date. I loved the first book, and this one might have been better. So many answers and so many secrets… it’s just too much for me. I will be rereading the first two books multiple times before the third book comes out, just to keep the anticipation at bay.

SOO GOOD!! but the way I almost started crying when I saw the next book isn't out yet?!😭😫 I'm not okay!!
I read this book in a couple of days and I had so much fun! the quintet is finally becoming a quintet in the way Kenzie wanted🤭😏😉 the tension is still there, we get more information about the curses (YAAAY) and Maven's background/magic (EVEN MORE YAYY). there is focus on the romance, but also still an interesting plot.

I love the different POVs and how all the guys are just head over heels for Maven😍 I don't wanna pick favorites, but the morally grey loving fantasy girlie in me might be favoring Crypt a little bit🙈 we have lots of badass scenes from Maven, lots of cool fighting scenes and finally some canoodling (iykyk) hehe 🤭

the ending: ARRRGHHH hehehehe !!! I can't wait until Novemeber to read the next book, but I guess I have no choice🥺

I’d forgotten most of book 1, but once I remembered everything this was super fun!! Such great progression for all the relationships, and I loved our kickass, mildly evil fmc. Super entertaining!!

3.0 ⭐ from 70% on I was kind of bored and skimmed a lot. Can't define why exactly. Nonetheless I am curious how it ends. The story for sure is based more heavy on the fantasy aspect than romance/ spice. At least for me.

I was excited about this one but it fell flat. The h got on my nerves most of the time. The story itself wasn’t moving fast enough in this one. It was tedious to get through and by the time I did finally get the answers, the conversations, and the action scenes that were wanted I was just over it. I had a problem with every characters voice sounding the same in book one and somehow it felt even worse here. I would have enjoyed this story much better, and it would have had better pacing, had it been single pov. I doubt I’ll pick up book three at this point.

So fucking good. I tried to take my time but damn this book sucked me right in. Maven is such a great main character. All the guys are so different and I’m obsessed with each individually and their character growths. Now I have to wait till November unfortunately.

Morgan if you read this and need more people to read the ARC, I volunteer as tribute.

Absolutely unhinged fun

I forced myself to read this book slowly bc I didn’t want it to end. It has everything my KU loving heart wants:

Paranormal romance
University setting
High stakes
Reverse Harem
MMCs are gone for her
Touch her & die
Touch him & die
!!!! SPICE !!!!

Can only describe this series as an absolute blast.

DNF halfway through. The storytelling didn’t get better, and the relationship between characters as well as the characters themselves were flat and uninteresting. I’m not sticking around for the second half since it all got too grating.

This is like the opposite of second book syndrome. 😭 All of them are such cinnamon rolls for her and so understanding of her boundaries - I love it.

I'm going to need 6 more books of this OMG!!!
I don't even remember how I got here but God bless whoever sent me a reel about Blood Oath that got me here because I AM NEVER LEAVING!
I love the writing!
I love the drama!
I love the characters!
I love the magic!
I love the romance!
I can see every character perfectly, I love how demented Crypt and Maven are, I love Silas's broken mind, I love Baelfire's golden retriever humongousness and I absolutely adore sweet protective Everett. I love how we are slowly unwinding the story, learning their stories, getting some answers and seeing that behind every single act of supposed hatred there is concern and love. It was so amazing getting all the answers and seeing how soft Maven's heart really is, knowing that Crypt will always watch out for them, Everett will always protect them even if he has to suffer, knowing that Silas would die first before letting his mind destroy the quintet and watching Baelfire be an amazing person through everything. Also, HE IS SO HOT 🔥 🥵
I don't know what else to say but more people need to read this.
IT IS SO SO GOOD!

3,5 Sterne!

Is it possible to have loved this one even more than the first?

Watching our girl finally break down her walls for her men was absolutely beautiful! She was terrified but willing to trust them and she’s so deserving of their love 😭

Loved finding out about the curses!! I can’t wait to see how they tie into everything, especially Everett’s and that rare magical ability he has 👀

The action scenes were incredible! Maven unleashed her true potential and my jaw dropped at her strength.

ALSO, HELLO? THAT CLIFFHANGER? A double freakin’ whammy too! Ahhh, cannot wait for book three!

Have just finished book two and legitimately have no words. I was so looking forward to this book and it did not disappoint!

I love how you got to learn more about Maven and her mates (a lot of it I didn’t see coming), providing much needed insight although I have a funny feeling there is still a lot more to learn!

It’s going to take me a while to recover from that ending (roughly as long as it takes for book three is released) but I absolutely devoured that book in a few hours.

Cannot wait for book three!!

3.5 ⭐️ I was so happy maven started opening up to them and allowing them to become a quintet little by little. Also I felt so bad for Everett, he wants to cherish and love maven so badly, but he can’t because of his curse 😩. I hope that’s not his actual curse or there’s a loophole because of maven's heart. I’m so happy that Maven finally decided to accept her quintet and fight for them. Like I’m so happy that she noticed how Everett keeps pushing her away and isn’t actually an asshole, so she’s pursuing him. I absolutely loved the spicy scenes especially with sweetie pie Everett. Once again my favorites were Baelfire and crypt, but I only think that’s because they have standout personalities. But either way I love the golden retriever dragon and the sociopathic incubus, like I was sad when he was gone for a bit. I can’t wait for the series to continue so I can fall in love with all of them.

I am so freaking happy this didn’t end on a crazy cliffhanger. Like don’t get me wrong at the end I was like huh??? But like I said I’m glad it wasn’t a crazy one because there’s still two more books left in this series and the next one doesn’t come out till November 😩.

Favorite quotes/scenes:

"You look like pure sin. And I've always loved sinning, darling." (Crypt)

"You clearly intend to continue stalking me."
"For the rest of this life and into the Beyond, yes." (Crypt)

"If you value your testicles, step away from me."
"Now, darling. We both know you wouldn't dare hurt your chances of having little nightmares running around the house one day." (Crypt)

“Thu mi le d’chal lei fhuil, ima sangfluir.” You drive me mad with your beauty, my blood blossom.

"Unless you want to offer a concrete, honest-as-hell reason for insisting we can't be together, accept that we're yours to keep, Boo. Mayflower. Mate. Cutie Pie. Raincloud. Take your pick." (Baelfire)
"I pick fuck off."
"I'm not going to call you Fuck Off. That's just rude. 'Fuck Me,' on the other hand, could definitely be worked into the mix. Especially if you moan it." (Baelfire)

"DeLune.”
"Problem, Professor?"
"Killing is prohibited while classes are in session."
"Oh, dear me, whatever have I done?"

"Here's my own warning, Maven. You're my keeper. My mate. You could tell me to swallow a fucking grenade, and I'd do it. But the one thing you will never tell me again is that I shouldn't want you. You don't get a say over that. You're all I want, and that's not changing, so learn to fucking deal with it." (Baelfire)

"Did… did she just snap that guy's neck with her thighs?" (Baelfire)
"That she did." (Silas)
"Fuck." I wouldn't complain if her thighs did me in. What a way to go. (Baelfire)

"You're back."
"You're smiling. You've no idea how much I've missed your face, darling." (Crypt)
"Just my face?"
"All of you. Every beautifully broken piece that completes whatever is left of my soul.” (Crypt)

“I'm going to make her my muse. I want her ingrained in my subconscious just as deeply as I plan to be permanently woven into hers.” (Crypt)

"That's it. Why the hell can't your lovesick lizard keep it in his pants today? What, did you finally decide to fuck him or something?" (Everett)
"Yep."
Oh. I'm an idiot. (Everett)
"That explains why he popped into your dreams so damned much last night. I don't mind your sex dreams in the least, but I must say the collar and leash were an interesting addition." (Crypt)

"They're gorgeous idiots. But now they're my gorgeous idiots."

"My curse isn't your burden. If it goes unbroken, then that's my fate. I still want you, ima sangfluir. The descent into madness will be much sweeter with you at my side."

“I want to breathe her, taste her—wrap myself in her twisted, beautiful mind and etch myself into her bones until every move she makes, I make with her.” (Crypt)

‘‘Twisted souls like ours can’t help belonging together, will of the gods be damned.’’

ROMANCE
The romance was a huge aspect in this book. I love how the author combined romance and plot and put it equal to each other. The sweet and tender moments between all oft he main characters were my favorites and we got to see the relationships develop further.

WRITING/PACING
This writing in this was perfect. I could clearly see what I was reading in my head and had no issues imaffining everything. The pacing was alright, the ending just felt a tiny bit rushed.

CHARACTERS
↠ Maven. I just really wanna give my girl a huge hug, she has been through so much. I loved her growth in this book and her internal monologue is hilarious.
↠ Silas. A book boyfriend who gives you nicknames in fae and proves his love for you, who doesn`t want one of those?
↠ Baelfire. My cute little overprotective dragon who gives the best cuddles nicknames.
↠ Everett. A seemingly grumpy character with a sweet thought process. I loved uncovering his secrets, curse and character. I loved him in this book.
↠All of them mean so much to me. I’m almost as much obsessed as they are with Maven, whether she is being cute or bloodthirsty. Their dynamic is so unique.

CONCLUSION
I’m glad to have read and loved this book. I’d have given it 5 stars if it weren’t for the pacing at the end, but this might me an opinon of me only.

I like these books a lot. This is a criminally underrated RH series, IMO. It’s not perfect and the world building 100% takes a backseat to the characters, but I don’t mind it. I can see the potential for the world to really grow and for the conflict to increase. But the first 2 books will definitely be for people that enjoy character driven stories. Maybe the whole series will be heavily character driven, and honestly I’ll still probably devour it. We learn a lotttttt more about Maven in this one. We still don’t know too much about her mates’ pasts, but I think I learned enough to get a good idea of who they are and what they bring to the table.

I just am so obsessed with how completely devoted and in LOVE with Maven they are. If you like a book with men that are obsessed, unhinged over her, and possessive, this is ittttttt. The spice was so good, and the way Maven finally starts to accept their affections was so satisfying to read about. She is definitely an all in or all out kind of gal, and she has decided that she is all in on her 4 mates. It is no longer just a touch her and die kind of book. It is now a touch THEM and die a slow, agonizing death kind of book. Maven is a psycho in the best way possible.

These are books you can gobble up, and I am looking forward to book 3 being released soon!
