Incoherence, lot of mistakes

I try to finish but I can only done the first 3 books. In the first three, th story is incoherence. I ask myself, what just happened, and why all the time.

Noticable mistake here and there.

I dont feel enjoy reading it to continue.

I felt like I was being led through a game of D&D by a second rate DM who would rather be watching Star Trek reruns.

The Good, the Bad, and the Grammar

I read several reviews before starting this omnibus. One gushed, saying it was like unto the Ring Trilogy. Another said that it was good but that the author could have used a good editor.

I have to agree with the second review - the various books in the omnibus are entertaining, but the bad grammar and sometimes poor word choice make interesting reading difficult and detract from the storyline. To be fair, the grammar, syntax, and all got better as I went along. Remember, these were first released as individual books, and it would appear that the author received better editing (or any editing - the first books do not really reflect any editing at all) as he published more and the last books were a pleasure to read. So much so, in fact, that I bought several more oof the author's books and plan to start on them as soon as this review is finished.

The narative flows well through all nine books and makes for good reading. Although there are nine books, some are rather short, especially in the beginning. None are terribly long, so reading the omnibus is not as time-consuming as it might appear. Indeed, as I said earlier, the last half of the omnibus flew by, and I was surprised to see it end. I was that immersed in the book. I don't know which book, if any, comes next for this stalwart captain of the Aela Sunrise - you have to read this to find out which captain and why the name - but I intend to find it and read it. I already have books about Fadis (who is he, you ask? read and find out) so they are next. Remember I said that I have already bought more books by this author? Anyway, I shall review them at another time.

I strongly recommend this omnibus to anyone who likes fantasy. The author does an excellent job of keeping the timeline straight when the various characters must separate to complete other tasks. Timelines can if get messy if not done well, and this author has them flowing masterfully.

This book was interesting enough that I will read the second book in the series. To be perfectly honest, I am reading this book only because I am out of reading material for now, and I can put this book down in favor of a different book with ease.

I see that many of the other reviews of this book are really bad. I personally think that the editing of the book is the biggest problem. The Author had lots of good ideas, but somewhere along the editing lines things got messed up. I cant help but wonder why the Author has not gone back over these works and fixed the editing issues since their release.

Extremely creative world building, storyline and characters undermined by horrible editing. It is like Mr Williams wrote (or dictated) these books in a stream of consciousness and then never went back to edit them. Repetitive use of words in the same sentence, misuse of vocabulary, spellcheck gone wild changing the intended word, confusing descriptions, illogical transitions, etc. It is frustrating because to me the only thing between a 3 star and a higher rating for this series of books is a decent editor, which they clearly deserve.

Terrible writing. Borders on incoherence.

I don’t usually write reviews or give up on books. I’ve literally never met a book series where the writing was too bad for me to keep going, until this one. I made it to like, book 4 or 5 before I finally decided it was never going to get any better. Hard pass.

Good proof reader required

At times I struggled to follow this series mainly due to the amount of mistakes in the text. The concept and story are really top notch with many battles and adventures

Confusing

As others say, the written English wasn't great. Some strange word choices. Some sentences that just didn't make sense. Wondered if it had just been churned out with no or little editing. Got through 2 books and couldn't take any more of the style and errors.

I actually did not finish reading this. It was very hard to get through. The character development was poor. It was sometimes hard to tell who was speaking. It read like it was written in a hurry without thought into the plot or the characters

I've been such a big fan of J.T. Williams for a while and I've followed the Stormborn Saga through its ups and downs. Is every book a hit? No, I'll admit that some are a little weaker than others, some plot developments are a little unnecessary and didn't really lead where I thought they'd go. However, I've rated 5* because of the overall Saga! Loved it - loved the characters, the settings the overall narrative. I'm being REALLY careful to avoid spoilers, so you should just read it and see for yourself!

A fantasy Odyssey with elves, dwarves and dragons

This is nine books from the stormborn saga. It does have a few creatures of the sea from the Odyssey, otherwise it's more of a classic fantasy but not as gripping or well written as the lord of the rings. I would say that the story itself is brilliant with great gods and creatures, but unfortunately the way it is written isn't so great. At times it wasn't clear which character was talking. Overall worth it if it is on special.

As much as I like fantasy books this saga isn't for me. A story spaced over ten books the overall story isn't too bad, however I felt little build up especially in the beginning of the first few books. Sometimes I felt completely lost when reading and other times it had its good moments. The history of the world is told in small amounts as the story goes along. Overall I didn't really enjoy this plus its over a 1000 pages, that's set back on my reading targets.

Incredibly written story!!

Few words of mine can add to the mountain of praise this series of stories has acquired, but I will say these stories are wonderful and take you to another reality. You learn to love each one and feel the emotions shared on the pages. The wealth of details and characters, combined with the ever changing ups and downs will keep you drawn in and page turning as fast as you can. TRULY LOVE this series.

I have been reading sci-fi fantasy for about 45 years, sticking to a handful of authors. About 5 years ago I started reading some new authors and have enjoyed their work. I just recently read this series and have really enjoyed the fact that is not the same old sword story. Great imagination!! Very interesting storyline with good character's. A breath of fresh salt air.

Good story; writing style not my favorite

I appreciate the interesting story lines and plots. Lots of imagination and good characterization went into these books. I think I read 9 of them, so I must have liked them. The style of writing, the vocabulary usage, sometimes makes it harder to follow descriptions than it otherwise should be.

Vivid Wordls

These are easy reads and they pulled me in. I have enjoyed following and getting to know these adventures. It was very much like a DnD campaign being played out. I’m going to continue to follow and see where this ends. If you are looking for high brow fantasy, this might not be for you, but if you want something easy to read, follow and enjoy then give these a try.

Good read

I was a bit lost at first, but the story and characters pulled me in . You have to read a little slower than usual perhaps ,so that you don’t lose the story line . Overall a good series looking forward to reading more of this saga.

Easy reading fantasy saga.

A series of easy reading fantasy, this is the second time of reading so it's perhaps good that there isn't any thing too complicated for me to have remembered. Better the first time though.

Begins well, but then drags.

I really like to read and I struggled to try to finish this series. It drags and skips with enough interesting parts to make you hope it will get easier to read. I really didn't like how the point of view changes back and forth every chapter.

Read all nine books one after the other. I am a Dragon Lance and Forgotten Realms fan but it is always nice to become invested in another world. Would have liked some more character development but a good read on the whole .

A series worth reading

I enjoyed all the books in this series, you go on a fantastical journey, the characters are strong and easy to get caught up in, the world created is strange and frightening. So pick up the good work of J. T. WILLIAMS and enjoy the world of The Stormborn.

Decent series

Liked some of the characters. Interesting use of magic. Found many grammatical errors and feel like some of the situations mentioned needed more fleshing out. Several places with incomplete sentences or very awkward wording.

Wonderful Series

I enjoyed this series and can’t wait for the next installment on the story of Valrin and his crew. Reading the first few books in the Half Elf series and knowing what happens to the captain is sad. Story continues so we will see what happens next.

Wizards and quests

This was a great story although the last trilogy was some what slow. I felt that fewer words could have expressed the same sentiment. Overall it was a wonderful read.
