A match made in hell?

Devon and Tanner fight like... well, cats and dogs. Which, to be fair, makes sense since hellcats and hellhounds aren't exactly a match made in heaven. Unfortunately, their demons' antipathy towards each other is matched only by the red-hot sexual tension between Tanner and Devon. It's driving them - and their long-suffering friends Harper and Knox - mad.

When Devon is nearly kidnapped, Tanner's protective instincts kick into overdrive - he's sticking by her side, day and night. But staying so close means their hunger can no longer be denied - they know their demons won't accept the match, but after one red-hot night they'll fight to stay together for as long as they can. But shadows are gathering around them - Devon's would-be kidnapper is still on the loose, a serial killer carrying rage from a twisted past threatens the lair - and most of all, Tanner and Devon are losing themselves to the heat between them. When this relationship goes up in flames, it could be a blaze that neither of them can walk away from . . .

As a long time Wright fan, I have been waiting for this book since we first met Tanner and Devon in book one of this series. Even as quirky sidekick characters, their chemistry together was palpable and I have been hoping ever since that Wright would give them their own book. When I saw that said book was coming, I was over the moon excited. And hit "pre-order" so fast and hard I'm surprised my keyboard didn't break. Luckily, it's built up some stamina over the years.

And this book definitely didn't disappoint.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...Wright absolutely has a formula she follows. It's a formula that I personally enjoy, although I know this might not be the case for everyone. I do think she deviates from said formula in small (teeny tiny) ways fans might notice (and which I enjoyed), but overall, fans of Wright can expect all the things we know and love...and have come to expect from her.

Knox is one of my top ride or die book husbands. As such, I was worried Tanner might not seem as...yummy in comparison. But I can happily say that he WAS. I also really liked Devon. But then again, I really haven't met a Wright heroine I didn't like (although it can be argued they are all pretty much the same person over and over again...but I digress).

The plot was decent and kept the story moving forward...and there was definitely some nuggets left for future books. I hope Raini's book is next!

Re-read 24/5/20

After re-reading it all, along with Khloe and Keenan, and Maddox and Raini, I also want books for Larkin and Levi. Maybe Levi and Ella? The incantor that keeps helping them. What I know for sure is that I'm definitely not ready to say goodbye to this gang.

4.5 stars

I really enjoyed these two! Not as much as Knox and Harper hence a debate about the rating in my head. But I couldn't find any other fault with them so I decided on 4.5 stars.

I always praise SW on her excellent pairings. Especially in her shifter series. I mean the woman paired a wolf and a crow and made it work! And here is no exception. How awesome to have a Hellhound and Hellcat pairing! I always wanted these two together since the first book and reading about them overcoming their inner demons(meant quite literally here) to be together satisfied me immensely.

description

And I don't know what else to say. SW never fails me. I loved getting to know Tanner and Devon better and learning more about their respective pasts. The suspense element was nicely done too in my opinion. I wasn't 100% sure until the end who was the bad guy though my suspicions were correct in the end. Exceptionally hot sex scenes as always. No psychic fingers like Knox but boy did Tanner make up for that in other ways.

I cannot wait to read about Khloe and Keenan, and Maddox and Raini!I bet we'll get a Maddox spin-off because that descendants demon was pure sin.

Finally, the story of Hellhound Tanner and Hellcat Devon, we’ve watched these to flirt and snipe throughout the previous books, the chemistry and tension between the two simmering as it craves to be released, and in this book finally it is.

I enjoyed seeing more of Knox and Harper in this book, but I didn’t get enough of Asher, I wanted more!

Keenan and Khloe together provide plenty of entertainment. Khloe as a character is a hoot and I so can’t wait for their book; she’s going drive him around the bend.

Overall, an engaging and well-paced plot and ace characters mean I remain a fan of the series.

Now let's just hope the wait won't be too long for Keenan and Khloe's book. I have been wanting their story since they were first introduced together. I am sure they will rock ;)

Shadows is the fifth book in the Dark in You Series and once again Suzanne Wright has created another blockbuster hit! Devon and Tanner could not be more opposite and yet some unexplainable force continues to pull them together. The tension between the two is off the charts and when Devon finds herself in trouble, Tanner takes it upon himself to be her number one protector. However, when they are pushed together even their demons cannot fight the attraction.

Told in multiple POV, Shadows packs a magical punch with all of the elements of a paranormal read that I adore. Tanner and Devon are both strong characters and when they are paired together they make an unstoppable team. I truly could not put this book down and I definitely could not get enough of Tanner and Devon together!

Overall, Shadows is another must-read for paranormal fans. Suzanne Wright never fails to amaze me with her impeccable storytelling skills. Her characters are complex and the world in which they live offers a perfect escape!

Can’t wait!
5 star for the idiot who gave it 1star without even reading the book.

UPDATE:
Honestly, this book was everything I never knew I wanted but desperately needed. Makes no sense I know! But that's how I felt. Tanner and Devon were truly against all odds but they were destined to be. I loved how Aunty Suzanne didn't take away their love for bickering even after their demons grew to tolerate each other. Sigh. There are so many things I can say about the book. But if you are a fan of Suzanne Wright, you know she always delivers. Her heroines are NEVER weak and docile. Representing women in the best and most capable ways. Her characters are always multi-faceted and we have truly watched Devon and Tanner fight their attraction to one another from Book 1. It's great to see it come full circle.
Sadly, I wish Asher made a larger appearance. That little nugget is so adorable I look for him everywhere.
P.S People need to learn to give books a chance. Giving it a bad review before its even realised is poor booksmanship. (Don't judge. Its my review and I can make up my own words! )

Love, love, loved it!!! Besides The Deep in Your Veins Series, this one is my favourite from this amazing and funny author. I love her works and this book for sure didn't let me down. Devon and Tanner are simply perfect for each other. I couldn't wait for their story and I'm so glad how it turned out. They both tease each other so much that it only made sense for them to be together. It wasn't a smooth journey to get there but with love it never really is, right? Also the infamous ow-om drama was compared to other books from this author quite mild, which I liked. And not to mention we finally get to see little Asher again, he's so adorable and cute. I also loved to read more about the rest of the gang. I'm fairly sure that the next book will be awesome and super hillarious, since it's supposed to be about Keenan and Khloe. I honestly cannot wait for it.

A reread was in order for Shadows as at some point, Khloe and Keenan's book shall come out.

Devon Clarke & Tanner Cole have know one another for years and Devon being a hellcat and Tanner being a hellhound they could never act on their chemistry. But now there time has come and Devon will need Tanner.

“That was Harper. It seems we have another issue.”
“What kind of issue?” asked Tanner.
Knox studied him for a long moment. “It’s Devon.”
Every cell of Tanner’s body seemed to brace itself for impact. Uneasy, his hound pushed close to the surface. By sheer force of will, Tanner kept his tone even as he asked, “What about Devon?”

And so their weird courtship starts but someone is out to get Devon. I didn't think that I would like Devon but she is amazing, strong and loyal like most of SW heroines but not cookie cutter or stuck in rut to make her like all other heroines.

Tanner as a sentinel to Knox's lair has always had an eye on Devon and he considers her to be under his protection but after finds out what has happened he is even more territorial when it comes to Devon.

These two have epic sexual and emotional chemistry together and I loved the interaction between these two.

All in all this book is fantastic and a great addition.

I didn't love this one, I guess no-one will ever measure up to Knox and Harper. I liked it, don't get me wrong but I found it lagged and dragged the second half and dare I say was even a bit repetitive at times.

Wright brings her A-game as always with a strong, bossy and uber hot alpha male and a snarky, sassy, strong and independent female character. I loved that she brings a hellhound and hellcat together, two beings that should never work, and work they did! The struggle, the will they - won't they and the final fall for each other, pure Wright.

Wright's characters really are awesome. Loved catching up with the other characters, though I really could've done with a LOT more Knox and Harper. Just saying. 😁

This series is one of my favourites. I’ve lost count of just how many times I’ve re-read the first few books.

Knox and Harper are one of my favourite couples. And the world that’s been created here is fabulous.

I just can’t get enough. And two things you’re always guaranteed with this author....
A strong sexy alpha male and a strong intelligent female. No TSTL heroines here.

So this was a one click for me. But did it live up to my very high expectations?

In a word...yes.

Tanner and Devon are great.

There’s all our favourite characters. Humour plus lots of hot and steamy bits.

Come on, Tanner, you have to admit that you don’t have a good track record with the female persuasion. You run at any sign of emotion. Kind of like mascara.

FUCK THE BLURB UPDATED!! HOLY SHIT WE FINALLY GET DEVON AND TANNER'S BOOK!!! RED ALERT IT'S FUCKING HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!

She was an enticement he couldn’t ignore. An obsession that just wouldn’t fade. A drug he’d always crave, no matter how many times he had her. And didn’t that just beat all.

"Shadows" is the story of Devon and Tanner.

We've met these characters before; Devon- tattoo and piercing expert, snarky hellcat, member of Jolene's lair and Harper's inner circle. Her biggest nemesis is Tanner, vicious helldog, Knox's right hand and bane of her existence. They have spent years chasing each other's tails, sniping and bantering while ignoring their sizzling chemistry. But when an attempt on Devon's life digs up old memories, and she decides to take up a mate, Tanner finally proposes giving into their attraction, something that turns into so much more..

As they climbed the stairwell, she was keenly aware of every move he made—the bunching and flexing of his muscles, the heated glances he sent her, the way his nostrils flared as he occasionally leaned in to inhale her scent. “Stop sniffing me!”
“Stop smelling like candy.”
And what could she say to that except … “You’re an idiot.”

This book had so much goodness. Witty and hilarious characters fighting each other, giving into their smexy carnal lust and falling in love in this thrilling read. I adored the repartee between our MCs, it was so much FUN seeing them interact with each other.
Devon was #relatable, and Tanner was just... hot.

Devon was on the seafood diet. If she saw food, she devoured it. Best diet ever.

Their story was unique, and I really enjoyed seeing them fall head over heels for someone they considered their enemy *insert cat-dog meme*. I also liked the updates about Raini and Maddox, Keenan and Khloe and ofcourse, my favorite couple Harper and Knox, and favorite baby Asher. Also, the branding scenes are always so HOT!

He looked at her, his lips glistening. “I want my venom inside you. I want to be in your blood.” He eased his powerful body over hers, giving her his weight, making her feel trapped yet safe. So full and long and hard, his cock pulsed against her clit. “Just like you’re in mine.”

This was HONESTLY worth the wait, and I cannot wait to read SO much for from Ms Wright, who is a fabulous author. I have to commend her for making me fall for these characters, while making me equally invested in the plot as well as their past and future.

Fabulous!

Safe..ish

I'm not sure anyone can beat Knox and Harper's story but this was a very close second. Tanner was so much more than I really had expected for him. The playful banter between him and Devon in previous books had me thinking he would continue being just that. Playful. I was pleasantly surprised to see his very, dominant side come out when he found out Devon was in danger. I was also very pleasantly surprised by the reason their relationship went from playful to full on advance. I loved it!

On a side note: If you haven't read this series yet, this is the only book focused on Tanner and Devon as the main characters. They were side characters in the first 4 books of the series and it looks like the author is moving on to another couple for the 6th book in the series.

5 ***** obviously ❤️❤️❤️❤️

We have Hellhound Tanner and Hellcat Devon, two characters we know very well from the previous books. After all the sexual tension built between these two is finally time to see it getting released! and wasn't it a hot bomb??

Oh man! I love their usual banter, Hilarious !! They LOVE to tease eachother very much.
“Look, kitten, I know it’s a struggle for you to deal with the undying love you feel for me and the close proximity only makes it harder, but what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.”

“Stop sniffing me!”
“Stop smelling like candy.”
And what could she say to that except … “You’re an idiot.”

The sexy times were very hot, scratches and all !
“I want my venom inside you. I want to be in your blood.” He eased his powerful body over hers, giving her his weight, making her feel trapped yet safe. So full and long and hard, his cock pulsed against her clit. “Just like you’re in mine.”

Also the plot was engaging and kept the story moving forward for the next couples( I can't wait for Keenan and Khloe )
Overall I loved this book and getting a glimpse in my favorite couple life again (Harper and Knox) , can’t wait for the next 2 books !!

Shadows is book 5 in The Dark in You series and I must admit to being really excited but nervous about this book. I worried that Devon would be a replica of Harper but I'm pleased to say that it was a non issue because none of that was a problem. I loved Tanner and Devon even more than I thought I would, although Knox is still the man. Shadows had all that makes reading this author addicting. It had an awesome couple, funny times, sexy times, danger and HEA, what more can a girl ask for. I can't wait for the rest of the characters to get their own books.

Aah Tanner. ❤ Shadows is the fifth book in the Dark in You series and is a fabulous addition. Suzanne Wright's supernatural characters are always a refreshing take on the traditional.

***currently re-binging this entire audio series and loving every minute****

4.5 stars! Solid read (audio). I know there are complaints about the narrator, but she has not bothered me at all. Maybe it is that the story is so great that I don't even pay attention to her.

Side characters are again amazing. My only complaint is that I wish there was more scenes with them. I can't wait for Khloe's book, she is a riot!

Tanner and Devon were exactly what I thought they were going to be. Perfect dog and cat relationship. I love the way they bicker.

What Devon went through as a child was heart breaking. I'm totally loving all the demon stuff, will definitely have to venture into more of this.

If you have any good suggestions, comment some of your favorites similar to these.

Tanner stepped over the Alpha-hole line too many times for me to give this a higher ranking. Even when Devon told him 'no' - he blithely ignored her wishes and basically just rough fucked her to his heart's content - and only when it was all over did the author advise us that Devon had liked it. He forces his brands upon her. Basically acts like a possessive dickhead to her gay anchor.
And Devon explaining away his behaviour each and every time did not work for me. Even though she talked a good game, she buckled under again and again... and again to Tanner's wishes/way.

Agree with another reviewer that the editing was often jarring - with missed or wrong words. Most annoying of all was the author using the pronoun 'I' when it came to the Demons (when in Hellhound or hellcat form) which was incredibly annoying. It. It. It. When Tanner's hound is male. Devon's is female.

This story/plot line unfolded in the exact same manner as one of Knox/Harper's story - so I often felt a little underwhelmed and as if I had read it all before. All the nasty characters are very 'one' note. And the motivations behind why they do what they do is so paper thin it had me rolling my eyes.

I feel like most of the Suzanne Wright books I've read have followed a similar formula:

→ The H wants to fuck the h really bad, but makes it clear he doesn't do commitment

→ The h is like "noooooo!!! you will never have me!!" and then a few chapters later she's like 😏😏 jk tho, give me all the dick

→ Then they have a fuck fest, during which the h acts like she doesn't care that he will never commit, but we can tell she's lowkey bummed. Then all of a sudden the H decides (or in this series the H's inner demon decides) that he now owns the heroine and they will be together forever

→ The h is over the moon that she's not gonna be tossed out like last weeks trash, they overcome whatever obstacle they've been fighting in the background, the end.

So.... if you can't tell, I find the formula a bit stale. All in all Devon and Tanner were perfectly suitable but also predictable. I really just want Raini/Maddox's book 😩 Their first meeting here was fire. Really don't care about Khloe/Keenan

The half of the story that focused on Devon and her past, I thought was interesting. However the other half of the story that focused on the mystery Tanner and Knox were trying to solve bored me and I could have done without it. The romance between Devon and Tanner I have no complaints about.

This was probably the best book in the series. However, I felt like we didn’t get much of that banter before they are just together. Not a lot of build up which was a tad disappointing.

There were some plot errors. Modern medicine, they don’t pump stomachs anymore and haven’t for years. I know this because I’ve gone to hospital with someone who needed and assumed that would be the treatment. I was told that they stopped that practice a while ago and they happened several years ago.

Some of the tie up at the ending was also felt way to convenient.

With that said, this was far better than a recent series I read.

Quick(ish) Review

So happy to finally get Tanner and Devon’s story! The tease of their relationship has been in the background of the first few books in this series and I’m so glad that it was worth the wait. The action was steady and well paced, their Firsts were memorable and the banter was popping. The violence is, at times, graphic and deals with some dark subject matter such as child abuse but all in all I’m very happy I read this. Onto the next book in my binge.
