My love for Finn wasn’t going to stop. I could tell myself and others I wasn’t in love with Finn. It was all lies. I’d buried that love deep, shoving it down whenever it threatened to appear, but it was still there. It had always been there.

Letters to Molly is the second book in Devney Perry's Maysen Jar series. I was equal parts nervous and excited to read this. This book is about a divorced couple and I was anxious to see how it would work out and how it would make me feel. I shouldn't have been, I ended up loving it even more than the first!

Molly and Finn meet through Finn's sister and Molly's BFF Poppy. They hit it off right away and end up dating and falling in love. That leads to marriage, two kids, and a pretty great life. Their marriage isn't perfect, no ones is, but when Poppy's husband is killed things start to fall apart. Even though Molly did something some would consider the deal breaker for the marriage, I honestly felt like it was equally both of them. No matter who was at fault, they've been divorced for years and it's obvious after all those years, they're both still very much in love with one another.

Molly never thinks much of it. She's not moved on, she'll always love Finn but she knows she'll never have him again. Then, one day, a letter shows up in her mailbox. One written by Finn to her many years ago. Finn wrote the letter, but he wasn't the one who sent it to her. Both Finn and Molly try to figure out who is sending the letters, but it's to no avail. While all this is going on, they begin sleeping together again. It's just sex, until it's not. Let me tell you, things are about to get really complicated.

I loved Molly and Finn. I loved them both as parents and people. Reading their past made my heart hurt for their relationship together and the way things went and how they treated each other. I was never more happy to have a couple find a second chance at love. It's very rare that a couple that went through all that can come out the other side and make it work. But no one is more deserving of this second chance love story than Molly. I adored her. She's an amazing woman and was my favorite character in the book.

This wasn't an easy book to read. At times, it was difficult. It was emotional and heartwrenching, but also beautiful and heartwarming. This book will give you so many feels and comes highly recommended!!

LETTERS TO MOLLY: Is the second full length romance novel in Devney Perry's 'Maysen Jar' series. In this we meet Molly and Finn. Spoken in Dual POV's.

We're first introduced to this couple (Molly & Finn) when Poppy, Molly's best friend (who we met in the first book) gets all her favourite people all in one place for dinner before Finn gets too busy with his last two semesters of school. And it was the perfect time for Finn to meet her new boyfriend Jamie.

From that first meet with Molly things moved relatively quickly to falling in love and finding themselves living the American dream. From marrying, buying their own home, to setting up their own business, to having two children (Kali & Max).

But along the way their American dream collapsed around them and they found themselves divorced, walls of communication had come tumbling down, both at fault, both hurt beyond repair, until there was nothing left to salvage and they are left to co-parent.

Some mistakes were unforgivable. Some mistakes ame with regret that lived like a monster in your soul.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

NOW: They have been divorced for six years and three months, Molly was relatively happy being single and Finn seemed happy enough in the dating pool. She was working at 'The Maysen Jar' alongside her best friend Poppy.

But out of the blue a letter arrives in her mailbox, seemly written by Finn fifteen years ago after their very first date which he'd never given to her..She's even more surprised when more start arriving up and with them has her eyes opening up to what may have been the catalyst to their break up. And the thing is Finn actually isn't the one sending them to her, they were apparently taken from his apartment.

They've made us talk through some old arguments. Relive some good moments I think it's healed a lot of the wounds we inflicted on one another.

These letters had me looking at Finn in a whole new light..I grew to love him, I hurt alongside him, I rooted for their journey to come back together as a whole. This was such a beautiful heartfelt second chance romance.

I went into this one completely blind, but on tippy toe, not really knowing what to expect. I loved the previous book so I was hoping I’d love this one just as much. And I did!! This story was perfectly imperfect, it was heartbreakingly beautiful, a roller coaster of emotional turmoil as the author threw all that she could at me.

As soon as I started this I was hooked, the author just nailed it, the perfect combination of past and present, the journey these two took us on hit me in the feels. I felt everything! Such an utterly unique story that once started I couldn't put it down.

OMG this is embarrassing - I totally forgot to post my review. It's been on the blog since release day and I totally dropped the ball here....

So here it is...

___________________________________

I was honestly blown away by this book.

There are romance novels, and then there are LOVE STORIES!!

This book is a love story – one that will tug on your heartstrings, make you feel good, but also doesn’t pull any punches. It’s raw and REAL!!!! We rarely get books like this.

Both Molly and Finn go through heartbreak, and their own journey of redemption, forgiveness and hope. Tears, heartache and love – there were so many deep emotions on both sides. It was needed but nevertheless heartbreaking to see them bring back old memories, especially if they would hurt the other person.

Their journey was truly inspiring, touching and thoughtful.

The way the author wrote this story is spectacular, unique and unapologetically real. The letters connected seamlessly, and I must say they were my favorite part of the book. Each letter was a step towards a happily ever after.

There were moments in this book that broke my heart – in a good way. I didn’t cry, but my heart was gooey and soft sometimes, and in pieces at other times. The emotional heartbreak never devastated me, but it was interspersed in just the right way to touch my heart and for me to be completely invested in the outcome.

The author hit the perfect balance with this book.

And having Poppy and Cole to be such a big part of this story made me incredibly happy. I adored them in The Birthday List, and I was so glad to see so many glimpses of their happy live together, that it felt like I got part of their story too. These two books felt more like a duet, the way the characters and stories were so deeply interlaced. You can’t read one without the other, they feel like two parts of a whole. PERFECTION

This book was everything I hoped it would be. Probably more, because it’s also so different from The Birthday List, and I think that’s why I loved it so much. I was afraid it would pale in comparison to TBL, but it didn’t. It was something entirely unique. A love-story that touched my heart and soul. And I’ll be recommending this book to everyone that will listen.

“Darling Molly..”

I tend to be considered a “lil picky” with my 5 stars. But books like this are exactly what I save them for. This story was everything & more. I laughed, I cried, I swooned.. every emotion? I felt it. When I saw Molly & Finn in ‘The Birthday List’ I fell in love immediately. I knew their story would be my favorite. and here I stand to say: it was.

While I wait here until Danielle Lori will finally announce a release date for My Dear Husband, I was in the mood to re-read one of my favorite cheating books. I have exactly two books with cheating that I like and Letters to Molly is one of them.

I'm upping the rating a little bit, because I've been struggling with reading/books lately and read like a blind turtle, but with this book I had no problem. Read it in one sitting, still loved it and most important it made me feel something. 🙏

ORIGINAL REVIEW (2019)

"How many times had I wished to go back in time and change my actions? How many hours had I spent loathing myself? I’d been living with so much regret. So much guilt. Until I forgave myself for being human and flawed and impulsive, the past would haunt me."

This review contains spoilers if you haven't read The Birthday List and Letters to Molly.

I was so ready for Molly and Finn's story since I heard they would get their own book or rather Molly's story and I just knew that it had to be her and Finn, because I felt it in my heart after reading The Birthday List epilogue that it's not over yet.

This book has some tropes I normally dislike very much such as:
💫 Cheating. (We know from the previous book that Molly cheated on Finn.)
💫 Second Chance romance
💫 Divorced/already established couple (I'd rather like to see how their romance started)

But somehow Devney Perry made it work.

Cheating is such a big trigger for me. I'm the first one to one-star a book if it involves cheating and I'm really hard on the cheater, but with Molly I couldn't hate her. She's the one exception. After reading everything that was leading to it I understand her. It doesn't make it right, but I couldn't condemn her. It was a huge mistake during five minutes of weakness, she dearly paid for. It was not even 5 minutes... more like 5 seconds...

Despite that one mistake, Molly is such a loveable character with all her quirks. She's an amazing mother, friend and (ex-)wife. She's hard-working and selfless. Sorry but I couldn't hate her, not even a little.

I really like Finn as well, even though he was a shitty husband, he's a good father. The book starts around the time after the epilogue of book 1, so 6 years after Molly and Finn got a divorce. They spend some years apart, living their own life, Finn dating other people and after one night of too much wine they're starting an affair. Oh and let's not forget that someone anonymously sends old letters to Molly from Finn that he never showed her.

Take away?

Marriage is fucking hard, it takes effort from both sides and communication is everything. If only one person is willing to fight for their marriage, it's doomed no matter how hard they want to save it. That's exactly what happened to Molly and Finn. Molly was working so hard to make their marriage work. She did all the work at home while Finn was working at his company. She went to counseling when Finn didn't. She tried to talk about what went wrong, but he didn't listen. One mistake leads to another. Each of them made mistakes sooner or later, so it's impossible to blame someone for their failed marriage.

Something that I really loved are all the side characters. It was good to see Poppy and Cole again. Even Jamie was mentioned quite a lot. Randell and Jimmy with their bickering put a huge smile on my face!
Max and Kali are great children. Love them so much!

Why couldn't give it 5 stars?

There were two reasons. One: the book is called Letters to Molly. Therefore I expected the letters to be "bigger". They played like a big part of the story, but they were so short? Some of them felt like notes to me. I just wanted MORE. I even expected the "angry" letters to be more hurtful.
The other point is: the angst. Finn's accident was the most angst we got in the book. I just like pain so I wanted it to be a little harder for them to get back together, but that is just my personal opinion. They already had 6 years to come to terms with what happened, so this book was more about finding their way back together.

My eyes fell shut, my breath stolen by the sensation of him filling the voids I’d ignored for so, so long. Here, in this place, everything made sense. Nothing was careless. Here, together, it was like going backward in time. We traveled to the days when those letters were being penned. To when happiness radiated around us.

”LETTERS TO MOLLY” is the bittersweet and angsty second chance romance between Molly and Finn Alcott, who you may remember from ”THE BIRTHDAY LIST”. They’re Poppy’s big brother and best-friend/sister-in-law, whose marital woes were just beginning as Poppy was finding new love. We are reunited with the couple who have been divorced for about six years. Molly and Finn have found a way to get past the animosity for the sake of their two children who they share custody of. It’s been six years since they ended their marriage. Irreparable damage has been inflicted but yet neither has been able to move on to new love. Everyone else can see the longing looks they cast each other's way but these two are too stubborn to let go of the past.

After a night of movies with the kids and a little too much wine, Finn and Molly end up having an incredible night of sex, but the harsh light of day has them both backpedaling and declaring their night of lust a mistake. Soon after their night together, Molly starts to receive letters in her mailbox that Finn had written to her over the course of their relationship. The letters open up old wounds and begin to break down the walls that they each put up between them. There is also a mystery to solve as Finn isn’t the one sending the letters. Dread is all he feels because he knows that not every letter was written when he and Molly were in a good place.

Have these two hurt each other so much that there’s no hope for forgiveness and a second chance? When tragedy strikes the Alcott family again, will it tear them apart forever this time?

Finn and Molly’s story is incredibly angsty and filled with so much heartbreaking sadness. It was a serious page-turner! I couldn’t put this one down until I finished it at 4 AM this morning!! I wasn’t sure that ”The Birthday List” could be topped, but then Devney Perry goes and proved me wrong!

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 4.5
Heroine: 4.5
Plot: 4.5
Angst: 4.5
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

Oh my gosh! Devney Perry does it again! She takes a trope that I am usually hard set against and turns it into a work of art that I can’t help but love! Letters to Molly is one of the most painfully, beautiful romances I’ve read.

Divorced, Molly and Finn have found a place where they can exist together with their children in a healthy and loving way. But one night after too much wine, they find themselves stumbling out of bed the next morning, both in turmoil over the night before. It should have never happened. They have the children to worry about. They can never let this happen again. Except it does. Repeatedly. And neither of them are fighting it.

”God, I never thought I’d get to see this.”
“What?” I whispered.
“You. Naked on my bed. More beautiful than the day we met.”

description

Rather than a book that shows the deconstruction of a relationship as it takes place, we are given letters that someone is mysteriously leaving for Molly to find. Letters written by Finn throughout the years of their marriage. Letters that force them to deal with issues they ignored while married. Letters that are both beautiful and heartwarming as well as sharp and painful. They highlight the beginning of love as well as the struggles this couple experienced and the slow erosion of their relationship.

”What had caused our divorce? What had taken us from a place where all I needed to get through one of the hardest moments of my life was one glance at her?”

description

I absolutely love Molly and Finn! Their’s is not a story contrived with outside drama that forced them into reacting in uncharacteristic style. It’s exactly what happens in so many marriages and how the individuals involved handle things when life gets sticky.

”The thing about divorce is, there isn’t always one mistake. One nuclear bomb dropped on a couple that destroys their marriage. Sometimes, it creeps up on you slowly.”

Letters to Molly was a deluge of emotion that caused my heart to soar from the joy and excitement of new love, before plummeting with devestation by the events life had thrown at Molly and Finn. I could not see how this couple could ever move forward from the past. However, in true Devney Perry fashion, she makes it work realistically and in ways I never saw coming. Add in an epilogue that left me smiling even as a sob choked it’s way in my chest, and I am giddily happy with the journey I’ve just witnessed.

Ok I’m officially done.
Too much sexism and discrimination for my taste.
Here we have the first axiom of sexist author:
-the same sin committed by a female is much worse than when it is committed by a male.
This is it.
Basically it is all right if:
- the hero treats the heroine abominably during their wedding because you know, the pussy is afraid that he could die and leave her and their children alone so he works night and day, then proceeds to close emotionally from her, uses her to start up his business then leaves her callously at home because he decides she has to stay with the children, then berates her, gaslights her when she does something that is wrong in his opinion, while she tries to take care of him, the house, the children all at the same time, then he dump her for one week after one quarrel and when she goes to him trying to win him back she finds him cuddling with his pa on his couch while he tells her he’s divorcing the heroine and he’s not going back home.
But it’s not right if:
- the heroine, after all she went through, and obviously believing he has an affair with his pa, goes to a bachelorette party, gets drunk and is pinned to a wall by a man who basically forces her to have sex, and even drunk she manages to get free of him before he completed the act.
And it’s right if:
- the hero as soon as she confess him what she’s done divorces her and starts dating ow and keeps having girlfriends for six years while she lives like a nun.
And it’s right if:
- she has to repeatedly apologize for her one sin while he never apologizes for treating her that shitty and dating like crazy and dumping her before yesterday come.
Basically she has to do penance for six years for almost cheating on her cheating husband while he dumps her and tries to get married to other women for six years. And he tells his bitch of pa that she cheated on him so the bitch called her a whore when she saw her.
Aaaaaarrrghhhhhhhhh!!!
Stop this shit!!!!
Why why why a man can cheat on his wife and his wife has to
-stay celibate for years
- never divorce her husband
- suffer like a dog
- forgive him after admitting it was all her fault if he cheated on her
Please stop this sexist attitude and please, female authors, get rid of this Adam/Eve complex where women are guilty of every sin and men are poor victims. This myth is created by males to submit females who are not only stronger but much smarter than the males!
- this heroine is a doormat and the hero abuses her repeatedly for years during and after their marriage and no, he never loved her. Stop trying to make us believe he loved her for six years while dating multiple women. We readers are not idiot, we read, thus we are smarter than common people!!!
And trying to make us believe that he was celibate while dating multiple gf and he dated his last gf for almost a year, in his late 30s, is not only unbelievable but also ludicrous.
Admitting he didn’t do penetration he did all other things for sure. Or else he could have dated men.
So tired of these very poor books.
I wish the heroine found another man, a worthier one, which wasn’t difficult at all since the hero was a complete asshole.

Everybody that knows me knows I don’t like cheating in romance books but this book I have to say even though I don’t condone what h did when you see her life through how neglected and just almost forgotten by her husband you can kind of see her heading towards an unforgivable route. The ow Bridgit was a B***H and def had a part to play in the h’s ultimate downfall. This h was a great woman, wife and mother but she let too many things slide with her husband and her snotty mother. I don’t blame H either for his actions AFTER that event but he too had a huge role in h’s action leading up to it. It’s not often I can say I was invested in a cheating book but this couple deserved to be together because they were both good people who did love each other. Brigit (ow) in my opinion got off too lightly, the only thing I didn’t like was H being still prepared to work with her even after knowing what she did to his wife. Personally I would have liked it if had just stormed up to her and just told her to leave. Anyway it worked out in the end so there’s that. Good story

After meeting Molly and Finn in the The Birthday List, I always wanted to read their story even though I’m not a big second chance romance fan — especially when cheating is part of the mix… but I’ve seen a lot of people say that this book is worth making an exception for, so I decided to give it a try anyway… and I’m really happy that I did.

I think this story did what it wanted to do, and it did it very well. There were a lot of different layers and elements at play, and I think it was all woven together really seamlessly. It was one of those books that pulled me in right away and didn’t let me go until the very end. I never felt bored or got the urge to skim… and I was very invested in the whole thing and really wanted to see how they were going to work out all of their issues.

There were still moments in this book that reminded me of why I avoid reading about these topics in general... and even though I think that everything they were dealing with was handled in a very realistic way and I enjoyed it for what it was… I stay away from these stories for a reason and I don’t think this is the start of me trying out more second chance romances — but I’m happy I made an exception for this one and am not going to let my personal hang-ups towards the actual topics of this book bring my rating down… because I knew what I was getting myself into.

So I’m giving it five stars for being a very well written story that kept me itching to keep turning the page - and not having anything about it bother me besides for the actual basis of the plot.

I'm in a quandary with this one...

I was hesitant to start this story when it hit my Kindle. If I was to write a bullet point summary of Letters to Molly, you would surely be convinced that there was no hope for Molly and Finn. I already knew things about this couple that did not put them in a favourable light. But, I also knew that these characters were very human, vulnerable and capable of love, loyalty and compassion. How did I end up enjoying a story with a subject matter that I normally HATE? Well, I guess it all comes down to how well it's written.

There were so many times I questioned Devney Perry's ability to turn my feelings around from anger to happiness. I was squinty-eyed, fuming and uncertain whether I wanted Finn and Molly to have their happy ever after. So many mistakes, years of guilt, heartbreak and loneliness that could have all been avoided if they had only communicated and put their marriage first.

Even as I'm typing this review, I'm still in a quandary about my feelings. On one hand, Finn's obliviousness made me so angry I wanted to scream and shout at him. On the other hand, his willingness to admit his faults and work towards fixing their problems was something I came to love. With Molly, at first, I believed her crime was unforgivable and I wrote her off as unredeemable. Then, when all the letters had been read, the raw feelings exposed, I couldn't help but reassess my hasty judgement.

Geez, it's so easy to judge without knowing the full story and for a wee while there, I know I closed myself off from giving these two a fair shot at happiness. Even I know that marriage is hard work and isn't always perfect. It's easy to put others needs ahead of your own when you have kids in the mix. I'm even familiar with having a family business that can take over your life. I SHOULD have been the first person to read without judgement and give these two a chance, and I didn't. I guess I'll have to remember this moment for my future reads.

I really enjoyed reading Letters to Molly and getting the chance to see this once happy couple find happiness and love again. The characters were interesting and very realistic, the storyline kept my attention from start to finish, and Finn and Molly's love story was proof that love can conquer all. I definitely recommend.

This book was so much better than the first book for me. Mainly because it has two of my favourite tropes: a combination of a marriage in trouble/divorced couple getting a second chance.

We get introduced to this couple and a bit of their background in Book 1 and I couldn’t wait to read their story, to see how they would get back together. I love seeing authors tackle this type of a dynamic where couples have to work through the issues that led to their downfall and this was done right.

It gave such a realistic outlook on marriage and the struggles that come with it and how easy it is to fall into miscommunication and infidelity if you’re not prioritising your relationship and being intentional about it. But life can so easily get in the way.

I loved the letters. What they signified. I wanted more of the letters. Finn was such a sweetheart. And Molly, bless her heart. I wanted the most for her.

I adored their kids and I liked Randall and Jimmy even more. Throw mischievous grandads into the mix of a story and it’s always a win.

“Darling Molly,
I just might have to marry you. Again.”

This is a book 2 in the Maysen Jar series and I would suggest you read book 1 before you read this one. First of all, book 1 is fabulous. Besides that, the main characters are introduced and are actually a pretty big part of the first book. For me, reading Book 1 established the foundation for this story and ensured I was fully invested in the story of Molly and Finn.

This is a second chance romance for a divorced couple with two kids, so for those of you that hate that trope this book will most likely not be for you. I’m not usually a fan of this type of story, but I got pulled into Molly & Finn’s story in book 1 and my heart broke for them and I just ached for them to find their HEA. Therefore, I had no problem diving into this book.

”Where had we gone wrong? How could we be this good and lose it all? How could we throw this away?”

That’s the million dollar question I think so many people ask. What went wrong? Where did we go off course? How did we end up without each other when we were so consumed with love in the beginning?

The letters in the mailbox are the catalyst for Molly and Finn to start facing the hard truth of where it went wrong. Was it Jaime’s death? Trying to get a new business off the ground? The stress of kids? Taking each other for granted? The letters are from Finn to Molly and he wrote them over the course of their relationship. From the day they met, to the day they were over and each letter reveals Finn’s deepest thoughts at the moment. Thoughts that he wasn’t willing to communicate with Molly at the time.

- “Watch out, Molly Todd. I just might have to marry you.”
- “There isn’t a person in the world that I’d want to share my cake with besides you. And tomorrow, when we blow out the candles, I’m wishing for you.”
- “You get twenty-four hours of space. That’s it. There is no version of my future where you aren’t by my side.”
- “It doesn’t feel like I can do this right now, but I’ll look to you. And the right words will come.”
- “You’re the most amazing woman I’ve ever met”
- “I’m failing you.”
- “You hurt me. You fucking hurt me.”
- “How could you?”
- “I’m ashamed of you. I’m ashamed of myself. You quit me. And I quit you.”

Be forewarned that Molly had a one night stand with another man during their separation. “I got drunk at a friend’s bachelorette party. I had sex with another man. The next day, I told Finn the truth. I told him how I was at rock bottom. That I loved him and desperately wanted to revive our marriage. I begged him for forgiveness.
He told me to get a lawyer.”

As this book takes place 6 years after their divorce, that issue is only discussed in past tense. Why Molly did what she did and how Finn felt. Neither one able to forgive her actions.
”How many times had I wished to go back in time and change my actions? How many hours had I spent loathing myself? I’d been living with so much regret. So much guilt.
Until I forgave myself for being human and flawed and impulsive, the past would haunt me. It would haunt us.”

The journey of Molly and Finn was euphoric and heartbreaking. From love to loss to betrayal and so many points in between, the emotions were absolutely wrung from me. I shed a tear as they discussed how Jaime’s loss affected their marriage (Jamie was the brother in law from Book 1) and reliving their feelings due to Molly’s betrayal was just gut wrenching. But there were also many joyous moments and heartwarming places were my heart did a little extra pitter patter.

The cast of supporting characters is wonderful. Jimmy and Randall (from Book 1) are still being cantankerous old farts, and I loved them.
”Hey.” Jimmy had just shoved another bite in his mouth and with his shout, little crumbs went spraying. “Where are you going?”
“Find your own ride home. Maybe Brady can drive you on his plastic tractor.”

”It’s good to see you’re all taking my death so seriously,” Randall said as he joined our group. “You’re all standing on my grave. Laughing.”
“You’re alive!” Poppy cried, throwing up her hands. “You wanted us to have a memorial service for you while you’re still alive. Of course we aren’t taking this seriously. It’s a million degrees outside. We’re standing over a tombstone that isn’t even complete because—again, you’re alive. And we’re not standing on your grave. Because, I repeat, you are alive.”🤣🤣
“I was doing this for you,” Randall told Poppy. “So you wouldn’t have to sit through a memorial service after I’m gone. I don’t want you all crying over me.”
And that was why we loved him so much. That was why we’d miss him so terribly when his time did come. Randall had the biggest heart of any person I knew, even when he hid it deep.”
🥰💕

There is a little bit of suspense because who the heck is actually sending those letters??? 🤔🤔🤔 Man, that baffled me and in the end, my super awesome detective skills..........failed me. Lol. 🤷‍♀️

The author’s writing evoked strong emotions in me as this is not a fluffy one-dimensional romance but rather a story that has actually been experienced by many individuals. Yes, I like to read romance novels to escape life. But, I also like to take journeys that are hard and emulate real life experiences and at the end of the day bring hope for a bright new beautiful future. This story delivers all that and more. When I closed this book I thought, good for them. They took the difficult road and faced up to their flaws and their part in the destruction of the marriage, learned from their mistakes and are better for the difficulties they persevered through. I adored both Molly and Finn and I was so proud of them for fighting through the uncomfortable mess of emotions to find their even better HEA.

This was a story I have been eagerly anticipating since I finished book 1 and it completely exceeded my expectations. Bravo, Deveny Perry!!

“Someday, I’m going to tell him all the funny stories. The ones about you and me. About Poppy and Cole. About Jamie. I want him and Max and Kali to know how blessed we’ve been and how much I love you. Because that’s our story.”
It wasn’t perfect. But it was ours.”

Quotes:
“I’m not much for PDA myself. Call me old-fashioned, but I’d take a heartfelt letter over sucking face in a restaurant any day of the week.”
“A letter? I think the most I’ve ever written to a woman was a question on a sticky note. Does that count?”
She giggled, the melodic sound stealing my breath. “No, a sticky note doesn’t count.”

“I took you for granted.”
She blinked up at me. “What?”
“You. I took you for granted. I’m sorry for that.”

“I started keeping my problems from her, and she started hiding her true feelings from me.”

“I was wondering if you wanted to take a small woll around the block with me.”
“A woll?” she asked.
“Yeah. You walk. I roll. We woll.”
She giggled and stood, setting the binoculars aside. “Then let’s woll.”

“We lost Jamie and life went on. But we didn’t heal. We buried our pain and our fears because it was too hard to talk about.”

Letters to Molly is the sequel to The Birthday List. Letters to Molly can be read as a standalone, but this would ruin The Birthday List. I recommend reading The Birthday List first. If you loved Molly and Finn you have to read Letters to Molly. It is the story I didn’t know I needed.

I can’t believe I took so long to read this masterpiece. This is not only one of my favorite second chance romances of all time but it is also one of my favorite reads of the year.

Molly and Finn truly have my heart. They both went through a lot but to watch them fall back in love with each other was EVERYTHING. Those letters helped them find each other again and I will forever be grateful to you know who for sending them. These two deserve the world and more. I will forever be thinking about them and their beautiful love story.

I don’t know how I will move on from this book, it was just too good.

“I’ve been in love with you since I was twenty-one years old. I might not wear the ring, but that doesn’t mean I don’t feel it there.” 😭💛

When I met Finn and Molly in The Birthday List I was more than enamored with them. The fact that Molly seemed to be the catalyst for the explosion of their marriage intrigued me. I was so curious as to what exactly transpired between this couple, and I found myself already invested in their HEA, even though I had no idea that they would be getting a book. So, when the announcement came that Letters to Molly, a companion novel to TBL, was coming, I was beyond happy.

Finn and Molly are special characters and their love story is layered by so many things. At first, it's all heartbreak, the emotional upheaval and grittiness these characters have to wade thorough is tough. You almost think there's no way they can get through it. The damage inflicted by one thoughtless, reckless moment is too much. Too painful. Too overwhelming. But then, in the same breath, you see the glimmers of hopefulness and healing, you begin to sense the sweet and tender and heartfelt feels simmering under the surface, and you just know that this couple can make it.

Letters to Molly is a very realistic portrayal of just how easy it is to lose yourself in the savageness of life, and just how quickly things can spiral in a way you never saw coming. Devney weaves pure emotion into each word and hits you deep in the gut. Finn and Molly are divorced and what they feel for each other is part toxic and messy. They have endless amounts of baggage to work through, but both seem to content with just burying their heads in the sand and dealing with their day to day. And then something happens, sparks ignite between them, and letters begin randomly showing up in Molly's mailbox, thrusting her and Finn back into the past, back to the memories and feelings they've long since buried.

And holy shit, it's all the things. You desperately want these characters to be okay. You find yourself needing them to have an HEA. And I just loved it. I couldn't put it down. Not for a minute. Devney Perry is a gorgeous storyteller and she knows how to keep you invested, needing, feeling, and falling in love one word at a time.

Overall, this is the sweetest second chance romance. It can be read by itself or after The Birthday List. It's brimming with angst and tender feels, it’s romantic and so worth the read. I more than loved it. Highly recommend it. And can't wait for more from Devney. She's always delivers, and I can't get enough.

It is very rare for me to sit down with a book and get totally sucked into the story. Letters to Molly sucked me in from the beginning. With the author’s easy to read and fluid writing, I just couldn’t read fast enough, let alone put my kindle down.

I don’t want to tell you too much about the story because it’s something you should experience for yourself. It was at times heartbreaking, yet very real. Molly and Finn have been divorced for years, but never really stopped loving each other. Thrown back into time and reliving the good and bad through letters Molly started to receive. Yes, Finn did write them years ago but never mailed them. So who is mailing them now?

As much as I loved this one, I can only give it 4.75(ish) stars. I did have a few niggles, but I am just being picky. I highly recommend this one, especially if you are in the mood for a real true love story.

An emotionally gripping second chance romance that will melt your heart and make you believe in love! That’s what Letters to Molly is.

I knew going in that I’d be an emotional wreck while reading this book, but as it turns out, It was so much more! I couldn’t put it down. The story pulled me in and wouldn’t let go. Molly and Finn’s story is phenomenal. I’d been waiting to see how it would play out and I was beyond impressed!

Here’s what I loved:
The flow of the series is perfect. The characters and events that took place in the last book are very much present here. We not only get Cinn and Molly’s story, but we see how things play out with Cole and Poppy.

The characters jump off the page. I must admit, Finn wasn’t a favorite, but now I adore him. Love him!

The story is emotional, heartbreaking at times, but always hopeful. It’s like real life romance. Life is complicated and messy, but like this book, it’s also beautiful.

It was unpredictable and caught me off guard. That’s always a huge win.
Overall, a well plotted and beautifully written romance that is sure to delight fans of the seriesand new readers alike.

Here's the deal.

I am not usually drawn toward romance stories about the trials and tribulations of married life, or - as the case may be - divorced life. It's a little too real life for me. My sappy little romance loving heart is wildly addicted to fairytales and all the belly fluttering "falling in love" feelings that come with them. But y'all? Devney Perry is some kind of magician. Because this book is all of those things I usually try to avoid -- but it was sheer perfection.

I mean, don't get me wrong. It was uncomfortable sometimes. There were things I didn't like and moments that were hard to read. Things got raw and ugly at times in the exact way that they do in real life. But the payoff for that was tremendous because beyond all that raw pain was this wonderful, honest, and simply stunning love story.

Ms. Perry doesn't pull any punches with Molly and Finn's story. I felt like nothing was sugar-coated and all of the emotions were captured so perfectly and so authentically. These characters were so flawed, yet it was impossible not to love them, to root for their second chance. It was just so brilliantly executed - a perfect balance of heartache and hope. That is - the heartache didn't outweigh the hope, it didn't feel depressing, it didn't feel weighted down. It felt...like love. And all of the messy emotions that come with it.

I don't even know what to tell you. This book far exceeded my expectation. It drew me in immediately, it held me captive in front of my Kindle while Finn and Molly sorted through their history and tended to their rekindled flame. It made me smile, swoon, and hiccup my way through some sobby tears. I adored every single moment of this brutally beautiful love story (even the sobby ones). I cannot recommend it highly enough! ~ Shelly, 5 "Darling Molly" Stars

***

I’m still reeling from reading Letters to Molly. I knew this second chance romance would be deep and meaningful, but I wasn’t quite prepared for the powerful feeling of hope that was also woven throughout this story.

Molly and Finn have been divorced for six years. They’ve reached a comfortable, co-parenting relationship. Life is quiet, smooth.

But life is also a bit lonely. Molly keeps busy running the business end of Poppy’s restaurant when she’s not running the kids. And Finn buries himself in his business too. But they’re both missing something—love and a relationship.

But neither one is really ready to move on, they both have significant issues to deal with from the past. And the only way they’re going to move forward is by hashing them out—communicating. Talking about their feelings. And actively listening—even when it’s hard. Even when they don’t want to hear it. Don’t want to talk about it.

At times, things get really ugly. Spurred on by the letters Finn has written to Molly. Those letters are raw. Real. Honest. But never sent. Until now. Until they’re found and delivered at random times. Anonymously.

I loved seeing Molly and Finn work their way back to each other. Work through their shared history. Their mistakes. Learning as they go, really sharing things instead of burying their feelings of love, hate, happiness, sadness, fear, faith, hope. Neither was ever fully honest with the other—until now. And it’s beautiful. And moving. And sexy.

And I loved every minute spent with Molly and Finn. I loved seeing their growth. Their realism in figuring out their roles in the breakdown of their marriage. Their devotion to each other and to really work through their past mistakes.

Letters to Molly is about true love, real life issues and honestly one of the best books I’ve ever read. ~ Missy, 5 stars

How do I explain the level of emotions this book brought out of me? I went from heartbreak to longing to swooning and I am just in absolute awe of Devney Perry's writing! This book starts off with the couple divorced and this is their second chance story. There is something about a couple who made vows to each other, lost their way and then get the chance to find their way back to each other that just speaks to my heart.

Can I tell you how much Molly and Finn broke my heart??!! Why wasn't love enough? These two were obviously soul mates. From their first encounter we see the chemistry and the connection that so many people will never find in their lifetime. My heart hurt so much for them! They had the perfect family with two beautiful children and they lost it.

They say hindsight is 20/20 and that's kind of the perspective we get with this story as Molly starts getting letters from Finn which he wrote over the span of their relationship from the very beginning up to the end. We see how important communication is in a marriage and how the lack of can bring demise to any relationship. I found this book extremely realistic. This author dug deep and exposed the areas of weakness where marriages can fall apart. This story felt so raw and personal, deeply emotional and overwhelmingly powerful.

There is not only sadness though. I did promise you swooning and there was lots of it! Oh Finn! This man holds my heart! He was so much more than I was expecting. He surprised me in the best of ways and once he recognized his mistakes, he owned it. His determination to claim back the family he lost tugged on my heartstrings and I just COULD. NOT. GET. ENOUGH.

A passionate, heartwarming and uplifting story of second chance love that I highly recommend!

Heroine and hero have been divorced for 6 years. They were college sweethearts (his sister is her best friend). She cheated on him and had a one night stand - a romp against a wall with a stranger whilst drunk at her friends bachelorette party - all of which lasted five seconds before she ran home and told the H. None of this is on page.

We begin in the current day where he is dropping their two kids off at her home. She’s no longer in love with him. They have settled into a routine of tentative friendship. He has a girlfriend. He started dating around year 2 of their split, prior to which he was very bitter and angry with her. She has never dated; maybe conscious repentance? Kicker is, I guess he’s had all these strings of girlfriends but never actually had sex with any. She starts receiving a string of letters that he wrote (more like one paragraph notes) during their relationship by an anonymous Cupid trying to reunite them.

I just don’t think this is a very romantic book. The break up was very Ross and Rachel from Friends (reversed gender posts).

The obvious reason for the split was her infidelity. In the build up to the break down of their relationship, he was coming home after working late nights at his business. She was managing the kids, doing chores like mowing her god forsaken lawn. He was too close to a co-worker, who was in love with him. She felt abandoned. He refused marriage counselling (her mother is a shrink who is overly opinionated about their life). They stopped communicating; instead his raw emotions were written down onto letters. They were taking a small separation from each other when she arrived at his office and found him and his co-worker looking very close. His co worker was disparaging her and her husband didn’t defend her. She left, went to the bachelorette party, got drunk and cheated.

The author neglects a lot of details in their relationship in the current day. They have a drunk ONS after he breaks up with his girlfriend. Then we are just just are told they’ve started sleeping together again. Where’s the intimacy with this couple? The actual emotional and physical depth. He eventually fires said co-worker, sells his business which caused them grief, moves back in and they start dating again.

But I felt a bit sorry for the heroine in that I don’t think she should have gotten back together with him just because it seemed like she didn’t even want to live in the town. After they divorced, she just resigned herself to this dull life out of penance and was too cocooned by HIS family. She was still living in the home they had when they were married. His sister, is his sister first and not your best friend. I feel like even if she didn’t date, she should have had her own life without being so bound to his to the point where she worked in an office, with his sister hanging up a picture of him and his girlfriend. That’s just inconsiderate of her “best friend”. Everything around her was of him.

Hero is under no obligation to forgive her, yes. She did a heinous thing based on assumption. He could’ve called her every name under the sun. Let’s face it, his letters were not that bad even in the angry phase so she had no reason to get mad at those ones. If she makes shit decisions when she drinks, perhaps she shouldn’t drink. I mean they were drunk when they starting sleeping together - eventually leading to the reconciliation. She did everything possible to make his life easier after the break up - out of guilt. But it just seemed to me like she needed to find herself outside of his identity. Experience life a bit since they were together since they were young adults. She could have set up a company of her own honestly..

Not safe
- heroine cheated (ONS)
- throughout 6 year separation, hero dates seriously but *technically* is celibate. Heroine does not date. Sort of don’t care.

“The thing about divorce is, there isn’t always one mistake. One nuclear bomb dropped on a couple that destroys their marriage. Sometimes, it creeps up on you slowly. And one day, realization hits and all you know is that you don’t want to be married anymore.”

When it comes to the romance novel, you can’t throw a rock without hitting a second chances scenario where couples reunite after years spent apart, and while this happens to be one of my favourite tropes, it doesn’t happen all too often that a story feels like a breath of fresh air from the very first page, standing so tall in a genre that is exploding with greatness. Known for her emotional, character-driven romances that give us all the feels, Devney Perry strikes again with a tale that is heartbreaking in its candour and brave in its intent, yet somehow incredibly romantic through and through. And with two very real people at its heart—grappling with obstacles that speak to anyone who’s ever felt the bitter sting of failure and regret in love—this is the kind of book you hope you never forget. Even as your tears keep blurring the pages in front of you.

4.5⭐️ Of the Maysen Jar duet, this is by far my favorite. In fact, even though I did enjoy The Birthday List and the characters in it, I was immediately taken with supporting character Molly, her ex-husband and their backstory. I am so glad I finally got to read it.

I am a sucker for a messy, emotional love story, especially ones with flawed characters. Perry does a masterful job of showing both sides of this story, without putting blame on one character or the other. This is real; this is raw; this is love on the bad days.

A great read, especially on audio - just make sure you read book one in the series first for the full impact.

Read if you like:
•messy love
•second chance
•reconnection
•forced proximity
•exes with benefits

Letters to Molly was a wonderful and emotional second chance romance. I had already been introduced to Molly and Finn in The Birthday List so I couldn’t wait to get their story and hopefully a their HEA.
All the lovely characters from the previous book appeared and I enjoyed every minute. Molly and Finn’s road back to each other was hard at times. They share a lot of history and that also made their connection stronger. Something I easily felt and made the story that more enjoyable for me.
Their relationship and bond with their children was a highlight along with their friendship with Poppy and Cole.
Jimmy and Randall gave me Laurel and Hardy feels and added the laughs when the story needed it cause it got emotional at times.
Their road back to another was fab despite it went back and forth too much at times. I’m not a fan of miscommunication and sadly it’s the reason why I couldn’t give it 5 stars. Still a wonderful story and the perfect book to complete The Maysen Jar Series.

This was absolutely amazing! Truly deserves all the stars cause it definitely brought all the feels. Ever since I read The Birthday List I was super intrigued by Finn and Molly’s story/relationship. So I was super excited to find out their book was upcoming. But I have to confess that I was on the fence about reading this book because the other Devney Perry books I’ve read before have been hit or miss for me. I’ve felt like her books were always missing some serious feels and angst even though her writing is pretty solid. But I can’t resist a second chance love story, and I’m so glad cause this one brought all the feels for me. This amazing story about exes finding their way back to each other delivered ten fold. This is absolutely Perry’s best work IMO and my absolute favorite book of hers. Loved everything about it and absolutely recommend!

4.5 beautiful stars

‘Watch out Molly Todd. I just might have to marry you.’

Devney Perry has this unique ability of writing such beautiful stories with incredible heartfelt emotion and romance. Her style of writing is flawless, her stories enthralling and emotionally haunting at times. Her characters have real-life issues, trials, and tribulations but they all have that one important thing in common, soul mate love. It was heart-breaking in parts, funny in others and so incredibly sweet and romantic too.

‘Some mistakes were unforgivable. Some mistakes came with a regret that lived like a monster in your soul.’

Letters to Molly begins at the end as it revisits the past and continues in the here and now. It was brilliantly written in order for us to understand how Finn and Molly started where their story began. We, of course, met them in The Birthday List as Poppy is Finns sister and Molly’s best friend. Whilst this can be read as a standalone we highly recommend reading book one in this series first as the emotional history is so relevant and so very poignant to this second book.

“The letters might force us to deal with some old wounds, but we’re not getting back together.”

Finn and Molly’s marriage sadly broke down at a tragic time yet both struggle to move on six years after their divorce. How do you move on from your soul mate when nothing has been resolved and your heart still resides with them? Molly and Finn dance around each other cloaked in friendship and parents to their young children. That deep connection has never been severed yet both know it’s too late. But what if….

‘About half had been written with a full heart. The other half, a broken one. One of them was catastrophic.’

When letters start arriving in Molly’s mailbox written by Finn but not sent by him, she’s thrown back into the past hearing the evolving voice of her ex-husband baring his heart onto paper. Is a second shot at romance possible or is the past too heavy for them to carry into a new chapter? Betrayal, anger, hurt and loneliness are hard to forget and move away from, especially as healing has far from begun.

‘Where had we gone wrong? How could we be this good and lose it all? How could we throw this away?’

Finn loves with his entire heart, but he’s stuck in limbo. Having to confront his inner pain and his feelings so openly with Molly is long overdue yet necessary. He must strip himself down to his broken heart and lay it all out for Molly to understand his part in their breakup. Examine his feelings and consequent actions, which is not easy. Molly must work hard too in order to understand and be understood in return. Their journey is full of ups and downs, tears and laughter. It highlights hope, strength, and love.

“We stopped fighting for each other and fought for ourselves instead. In the end, I think it –us- got to be too much and we gave up. I’m sorry.”

Bravo, Devney Perry for writing what must’ve been a difficult story to write as it deals with the hardships faced in a marriage made with love. The external influencers, as well as the strain of a breakdown in communication, makes it hard; finding your way back is not easy. However, when the heart refuses any other, you must listen to its words!

“I’m going to try and win her back.”
